I really like this FIFA video. Danny is always great and it's cool hearing him talk soccer/FIFA as someone who also plays a lot.

Though I wonder how he forgot to tell Drew about the sprint button since you use it like all the time.

My ten year old daughter just showed me that she had (on her own) found and downloaded Tomodachi Life Miis of Jeff, Brad, Scoops, Vinny, Drew and Ryan

all on her own. My work is complete. Child raised. There is nothing more I could possibly have to teach her, surely.

Does she know who they are? If so that's pretty cute.
 
She actually does, as she watches Quick Looks all the time (and some of the premium content when I was a Premium Member). Her favorite is Vinny... go figure. She was also very aware last year of the sadness that I felt with Ryan's passing, and that was when she really started tuning in on her own.
 
Seeing this terrible Planet of the Apes game on UPF a week after the GDQ marathon made me look for speedruns of it on Youtube.

The Teach me FIFA, Danny video has some amazing macroblocking. Genuinely makes it look like the game's got N64/PS1 textures. You don't really notice when the camera's zoomed out, but that match intro is something else. 12:00 and it pixeljerks so badly it looks like the framerate's fucking up.

That is not what the ground textures actually look like, right?

And it's got that thing you notice in some GB videos where there's weird pulsating pixelation. If you look at the Messi menu in the beginning you'll eventually notice stuff moving around that shouldn't be. I don't know why either of these things are happening.
 
I'm pretty sure the last picture is how the ground actually looks. That frame doesn't seem to have too much compression problems (compared to the other two).

Really? That would literally be an N64 texture in a PS4 game. I cannot fathom this to be true. And considering how badly the compression affects other frames, I would not doubt its transformative powers.

During the intro I assume it's got massive problems because of the crowd, confetti and grass. Still, it's the worst compression I have ever seen. It makes it look like the game's popping back and forth between two equally shitty LOD's, tricking your brain into thinking the video's hitching up. It's amazing.
 
The billboard and text look just fine on that frame, and the ground texture isn't blocky either - it's just muddy because it's a shitty texture. That's probably because they're using the same texture in closeups as they do during the gameplay.

Also it might be because the camera's off field, but it seems to be missing the 3D grass effect:

You sure they were playing on a PS4 and not PS3?

e: During the intro the camera is also (I'm assuming, haven't watched the video) zooming/moving out, which is a difficult scenario for compression.

It's not the same, but Danny did commentary for that conf with a couple other GS guys which was pretty damn good. Towards the end as Sony were dropping bombs, he just started freaking the fuck out. Was hilarious.

It's on twitch somewhere. I'll try to dig it out when I'm not on mobile.

One thing I'm noticing about the Alex/Vinny duo is that they're still learning how to play off one another. It's become clear that some time needs to progress before the eccentric Vinny and the deadpan Alex learn to become the same weirdly awesome duo Jeff and Drew ended up becoming.
