PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | July 2014

I think sony will have some new vita games, probably cross platform with ps3/4 and may not come from their own internal studio

I'd be happy enough with that... That "best on vita" isn't just a meme, it's true for most games.

I think it's pretty unrealistic to expect console exclusives for the vita. Think about how many exclusives the ps4 or xbox1 has... Not many, and they've sold good numbers.

A steady flow of titles that are cross play would be great.

TOP OF THE PAGE:

I can't stop playing child of light but I have to give a shout out to borderlands 2 as well.

People seem to have stopped talking about BL2 and I still think that despite the few technical hiccups, it's an unreal experience having a game like that on a hand held.

In less than 12 hours, my opinion of Rogue Legacy went from "don't care" to "must buy". More indies like this at Gamescom please.

The more I play BL2, the less bothered I get at the technical problems. I even went back to the default controls about a week ago.

Unreal experience
Unreal

huehuehue

it does run on Unreal Engine right?

I plan on getting a copy of it once my brother gets a Vita.

I can't stop listening to the Child of Light soundtrack as I can't play the game at the moment.

For audio nerds, the FLAC download appears to be 24bit.

Still need a release date for Vita version in Hong Kong! Official site still doesn't have one.

Officially, the noises sony have been making would definitely indicate that they're backing off from supporting the vita in the west.

If anything, they'll be adopting an agnostic approach: if the hardware sales numbers surprise sony due to remote play and playstation now, they might throw some money at it.

I expect an Indie fizzle reel at gamescom.

They've simply given interviews stating things as they've been for over two years now. We had the same last year. Don't mistake NeoGAF's ability to have mega "Vita is dead" threads, which we've also had for years, into new official noises coming from Sony.

If there's anything new this year it's that they're going after the kids market, and they're doing so with the Vita platform not PS4. Seems incredibly dumb to me and destined to fail imo, but it is what it is.

Hopefully, you're right. To be clear: I don't think the vita is dead... For me, it's easily my most played platform and I've got enough of a backlog to keep me going for a few years.

Interesting, what you say about the new focus on kids. I've said before, I've got a young daughter who loves my vita but I struggle to find anything too suitable for her to play on it.

Maybe Sony could focus on new dads: "Don't get as much time to game as you used to? Want a pick up and play platform that doesn't need a tv? Here's a vita with a ton of adult content and here's some kiddie shite to occupy your little one when they demand it. Now don't let them get their grubby, slimey fingers on this beautiful screen!"

Minecraft next month for your daughter. Don't know a single kid who doesn't love Minecraft.

Other than that though the Vita is very much a teen-and-up device, it seems.

Kiddie-crack, Minecraft.

I'll be getting the game for myself too. I've never played it - I want to see what the fuss is all about :)

They could port Ratchet: Gladiator, but after the dire state of the PS3 port I'm not sure I'd be interested.
Yeah. There is a possibility it could run alright on Vita and some of the PS3 issues would be exempt so we'd end up with a better port in the end but that would just be wishful thinking on my part.

I was listening to it every opportunity I got when I wasn't playing around release time, it's so fantastic.

I tried out Minecraft on Oculus Rift and it translates really well to VR (aesthetically and performance wise). I accidentally jumped into the water, which was really uncomfortable, and my heart sank seeing a gigantic (scale) squid swimming towards me from the distance. VR makes things unintentionally scary.

I wonder if the PS4 version will get Morpheus support?

I never realized just how in depth Edit mode in Project Diva was. It's like After Effects Mini. I'm so confused.

the reason I decided to check it out is because I stumbled upon some Edit Mode videos on youtube. People have made some pretty amazing stuff.

here is an edit that might be relative to the interests of people in this thread

and here is an edit that is really impressive in everything.. at least i think so

SEGA really does put a lot of effort into this game. Pretty crazy stuff.

Ok, I need some advice on "Hunter" games on the Vita!

I know there are the following:

- Soul Sacrifice/Delta
- Monster Hunter (PSP) - Already have it
- Toukiden
- Earth Defense Force
- Ragnarok

Any other one? Is Toukiden or Earth Defense worth it?

Earth Defense Force is not an hunting game, it's more like a Starship Troopers game, or a musou with guns, giant bugs and mechs, totally worth it, but not a hunting game.

Toukiden and SSD should be the best hunting games.

Earth Defense Force is horrible if you're playing solo and only slightly better if you're playing with others. It's incredibly repetitive and you spend the majority of your time rolling around the map to get from point A to B.

Lies! The game is pure fun. I've played through it multiple times (on different difficulties) and always had a blast. It's pretty much musou with guns and giant ants

Soul Sacrifice Delta. Seriously. For me it makes all the others obsolete. Be sure to get Delta, though; it's a much more rounded out, balanced and playable game than vanilla.

I have it on 360 and vita, it has some charm and it is perfect if you havent got much time and want to play a bit. :) just I would never dare to compare it with Monster Hunter.

And I had zero interest in Hatsune Miku's games... But that editor mode sounds so good. Is only digital in Europe, right? :(

Seconded. I started playing the game at the end of last week and its just a joy to play. I'm not a fan of RPG's usualy so it being on the easy side isn't a problem either.

THIRDED!

I'm also not an rpg fan but I'm loving the battle mechanics. The fact that I don't avoid battles is testament to the game.

You're right about it being easy (I haven't lost a battle yet) but I like how I always come away from an encounter knowing that I could have done better.

I like how you always *know* when you've made a mistake - even if it doesn't punish you too much.

I second this although it does in the end come down to personal preference because of how different they play, I enjoy both a bunch though and am not a fan of Monster Hunter.

Each to his own. I have mindless fun with it and find it addicting rather than repetitive.

Playing through Ys Seven, my first Ys title and I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I am. So tempted to get MoC after beating this... I do hope it goes on sale sometime soon.

Seeing the Ys games on sale for Steam just a few days ago gives me false hopes that they will go on sale in the PSN too.
Probably Not though.

I've only lost one battle and that was against a boss that I slipped up pretty bad on. That said I kind of gave up and restarted rather than struggle through the battle. I'm trying to tool up a few characters to be useful in different instances.

So Gamescom is next month...

Wonder if we'll hear about Vita/PS TV. I hope Sony announces wider support with old games getting patched :(

Yeah I'm not expecting it any time soon :/ The recent Japanese game sale on the EU PSN would have been an ideal time to discount it but they didn't so I'll probably end up biting at full price haha.

Soul Sacrifice (Delta)
I haven't played Delta except for the demo, and haven't finished the original so I don't want to say much (it has a demo, though, so you might want to check that out), but I'll give this advice:

Don't bother with vanilla. If you're planning to get Delta anyway, don't bother playing with the original version even if you got it on PS+. Would you rather watch a Star Wars or Harry Potter movie without any special effects at all and without the epilogue then watch it again after it formally releases in theatre/dvd/bd/etc? It's an exaggeration and unfair comparison, but you get my point.

Monster Hunter (PSP)
I'm going to assume that you've been played at least one MH game, so I'll just leave this entry blank. Or not.

Naruga Kuruga female armor is THE sexiest. Don't argue with me; it's a fact of the universe.

And MH Portable 3rd (JP-only, PSP) is one I hold dear to my heart. I mean, Gun Lance + Auto-Guard = explode shit up and still come out without a scratch.

Toukiden (Kiwami)
Contrary to what others think, this isn't actually Tecmo Koei's first jab at the hunting genre. They once tried to do a sort of musou/hunting hybrid, and it didn't take off (I think I read this in a dengeki online interview last year).

I haven't played the whole game since I'm waiting for either my friend to pick it up (and a Vita) or Kiwami to get a The Best/budget version. But from what I played in the demo (and the impression most people have), it's gameplay is closely related to MH. Also has a demo (for both original and Kiwami)
Ragnarok Odyssey (Ace)
I would not touch it even with a ten foot pole. Only people I know who bought this game were the guys who still had feelings for Ragnarok Online. Well, there's a demo, go see if you will actually like it. >_>

Earth Defense Force 20__
Ants flies away like a cardboard box when you shoot a rocket launcher at them. Not a hunting game.

Sword Art Online Hollow Fragment
Some GAFfers said this is another hunting game. So let's include this for reference. Not a hunting game.
Criminal Girls Invitation (aka Criminal Girls Invite)
Best MH clone.

What? If SAO can count, I don't see how Criminal Girls can't. It's a game, and it's on the Vita - only criteria needed to be called an MH clone.

P.S. Don't google, as it might lead to NSFW images. LOL.
And before someone takes this seriously, yes, SAO and this are a joke.

God Eater 2
It's a hunting game with two dimensional battle - melee + gun. That make it least monotonic for me. In the original, guns were meant to be short bursts of damage. It still is, but Assault guns in GE2 allows you to fight in mostly in guns. Also has a demo.

GE2, however, has some shortcomings from GE Burst that you'd expect to naturally be there. They're not bad case, but it still hurts. :/

Blood Arts is an awesome new addition (despite some imbalances) as it allows you to personalize your fighting style. Or sometimes even supplement weaknesses. (You can barely hit airborne Sariel with a Boost Hammer and air attacks are limited. But Hammer + Blood Art 【連砕独楽】= watch her drop like a fly).

The two new additions are pole-type weapons. Boost Hammer is both a slow and fast weapon (with Boost Activate). Charge Spear specializes in both hit-n-away tactics as well as engage-disengage type fighting style. I main them both, but I haven't mastered CS backflip nor have I mastered BH's Boost Drive repositioning. There are times I don't even (or forget to) use CS backflip at all despite looking real useful. -_-

Bullet Edit is lovelier, but you can tell that they had more ambitions in GE2 than what they had delivered. They need to commit GE to become a Vita exclusive to do away with PSP limitations. (I'm on the GE3 camp, actively opposing the GE2 Burst camp.)

Freedom Wars
It's more third person shooter, less hunting game. I will post a more detailed impressions in a few days. I put it here because it's advertised as such (that's the impression you'll get if you watch the gameplay trailers). Also, Freedom Wars 2 (or an expansion) is guaranteed because the story is half-done. Demo was removed.

For me, I can't say it's a good game because while they did some things really well, some stuffs feels really half-assed. Either ways, it's definitely an interesting game. And a grindy one (lulz random shit).

On the other hand, I hated how they did the story, so I won't be buying FW expansion or FW2 until they release a budget release. (Bought it for around 5200 yen in PS store, which equates to about 52 USD. Normally, I wouldn't complain, but with that kind of story telling, and the one-week Gust sale, it kinda hurts... I could have used that money for the entire Atelier Arland series since Gust is having 25% off them and buy FW later when I have more luxury money. T___T)

Bottom line is still the same: it's a TPS with huge monsters rather than a hunting game.

Edit: I forgot to include this:

I think this must be Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce - It had a similar focus on AdHoc multiplayer but it ended up being ridiculously difficult on PSP (at least for me in comparison to other Musou games). For me it would be the best Musou game on PSP released in the west if not the ramped up difficulty, it had a nice variety and fun skills.

As for Persona 4, I beat the game ages ago back when it was first released on PS2 but I am loving it again on Vita - One question though - can I just not bother with my Izanagi or should I keep him? I remember he would always be underleveled. For now I keep him because he's got handy Zio, but then my Waifu Kanji joins.
So do I need him for the "Super Izanagi" that you get towards the end of the game or will I receive him regardless?

Also what carries on to new game plus?

You can keep Izanagi if you want to put a lot of effort into keeping him levelled and useful, but it's not worth it in my opinion. I have always been the type who fuses at every possible moment in Persona games, don't like keeping any one demon around for too long because the benefits of fusing especially if you're keeping up with your S.Links is just too good.

A lot carries over... Money, Persona Compendium, Weapon Shop Stock, personality stats, costumes, skill cards and max Persona slots available.

Edit: You can't get Izanagi no Okami or Magatsu Izanagi until New Game+

You get Izanagi-no-Okami in the true ending as part of the story regardless whether you have Izanagi with you or not, but you'll need him later if you want to fuse Izanagi-no-Okami again. I personally don't use either of them in my party.

Man, that 99¢ sale was both fun and depressing. Fun because I got some good stuff for a tiny bit of money. Depressing because I already owned licenses for more than half of those games. I'm so bad. So very, very bad.
