Evolution 2014 Thread 2: Evil doesn't prevail July 13th - Final day

Even Filipino Man isn't on Luffy's level. Luffy played her since literally vanilla day one and invented and perfected the character. Any other Rose would get man handled in top 8.

I'm interested in seeing the Chris/Luffy money matches though.

my favorite moments of today were

1. Louffy dominating (his sponsor shirt spells it Luffy, how the fuck is it actually spelled?)
2. CDjr emotional after win
3. justin wong barrel roll

CD comes off as kind of an ass on twitter, but it was good to see him win.

I fell asleep during marvel, woke up to someone yelling Justin Wong is back, as soon as i look at my screen i see justin faceplant.

So on a whim after seeing twitter chatter I tuned into the twitch stream to watch this SF4 finals an hour or two ago. Never been a big fighting stream or watched EVO before. Man that was great! I'll have to pay attention to when it comes around next year to see the other game tournaments. louffy and that march through the ranks was epic.

Many countries getting wins this time is fantastic to see. China, Japan, US, France etc. all getting represented.

I do feel bad for Tokido in KOF and Bonchan in SF4 though, thought they deserved wins.

The KoF commentators were awful though.

The matches were great though, which is far more important.

Honestly, I did not feel Marvel top 8 at all.
Justin winning is cool, but the play during the entire finals was terrible.
Everyone was dropping stuff left and right, it was just stupid.

I have a feeling Daigo's gonna show up at a lot more US tournies now.

I said this the moment I found out Choi knocked him out. Hopefully it motivates him to go to tournaments more often. Miss those days where he was literally at every major tournament no matter what country it was in.

Best top 8 moment

I also don't get why the Fei players didn't have semi viable alts if the Rose matchup was that bad for them..
It's not that the match up is really that bad, just that Luffy knows it god damn well because of all the good fei long we got here in France.

BB takes the top hype spot for me, followed by USF4 and Mahvel.

BB for the insane Garireo comebacks, that dude just didn't know when to quit. Truly one of the best things I've ever seen in any game at any EVO.

USF4 for Louffy going full beast mode. No one had him pegged to win. First ever EU EVO champ, and thoroughly deserved. The brackets he overcame to win were insane.

Mahvel, for the return of the King. Playing HIS team, and not wavering even once. He did it his way, on his terms. Especially after coming so close last year, it just felt right. Justin, fucking, Wong makes the evo headlines once again.

Shoutouts to John Choi for those ridiculous Ryu fundamentals and that ST performance.

EVO provides once again.

Both the developer and the US publisher contributed over 25k.

Which really makes you wonder why a company like Capcom can't be bothered to put up at least that much amount for the biggest yearly tournament in the world.
well, Infiltration won $50,000 and a new car at the 25th anniv tourney...

One thing is for sure.

Any veteran that decided to main a brand new character in SF4 this year either got eliminated or thrown into losers right away. I guess the strategy there could've been "I've put time into this character and chances are they haven't studied it that much, I think I have a solid chance."

Really bad decision making if that was the case.

Yeah, I'm expecting Xrd there. MKX should make the cut, IIRC MK9 was a late release(april?) and still made it in.

Smash will be the most interesting. I'm sure it'll be the one that gets pushed, but I am really curious to see the fan feedback for it.
I added Killer Instinct to my safe bets list, which was an odd oversight on my part (more so with the fact that it's gonna get continued support from Iron Galaxy). Although I hope that P4AU gets enough love to be at EVO alongside Xrd, it won't win against Xrd if it ends up being one or the other (I'm more curious on what system Xrd will be played on, since the only difference between the 2 versions is the resolution).

Nintendo is definitely gonna push Smash U hard next year. Hopefully it's well-recieved by the competitive Smash community.

I think he should have played a little crazy in that first set just to try to throw Louffy off and make some things happen.

You literally can't win the fireball war, meter war, damage war(super), or mid screen game.

And he has no million anime gif posting army either

He was just the best sagat in the world...
Considering he had no real cards to play he did a damn good job

But yeah ggs louffy, enjoy the giant bullseye on your back champ ;)

lol one player does not save a whole top 8
FChamp vs ChrisG, Jan vs RayRay and Insayne vs RayRay were excellent sets too.

Every single one of Justin's matches were godlike. The few matches that were really bad where ChrisG vs anyone except FChamp/Justin and FChamp vs Jan mostly because it was really one sided and "lame" play that stream monsters don't enjoy.

What an incredible Evo. Like Seth and James said, it's hard to believe, but it really does get better every year.

Dat MAHVEL tho. Got DAM.

Can't wait for Max to put a bunch of KI moments before SF4 or BB finals in his inevitable EVO 2014 Hype Moments video.

Have to agree, moments were good but overall not so much. And it felt like a lot of matches were won in a dominating fashion instead of being close.

Justin winning was great though.
