Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

So, thinking this all over, here's what I'm thinking could be the timeline if the Gematsu leak is real (if not accurate)

1) Outset of development; the leaker is on staff and is aware of the character choices, including Chrom and "Pokemon X/Y."
2) Leaker is quit/fired/leaves development.
3) Greninja gets a name/final design. Chrom isn't shaping up well, so they replace him with Robin.
4) Realizing they have extra dev time (or deciding to drop either Shulk or Chorus Men), Sakurai and team have time to add a few clones. This would have to be the same time the newcomer trailer CGI goes into production, so probably at least a year ago.
5) Leaker leaks his information, not knowing about these changes before E3.

Maybe they decided Lucas was cut and that's why they had clone time, I dunno. I don't think we can discount Gematsu yet, since we already know a lot of his info was preliminary.

Timeline's wrong, he's with them still, at least as of E3 2014. He updated Mii's name to Mii Fighter.

My guess is that, to avoid leaks, the workload is heavily divied up. Our leaker is part of the CGI trailers team. He leaks both because he loves Smash, but also because leaking a game will probably hurt him in terms of working with games again, but since he's a CGI guy, he can find work in other industries. He sees models for Pac-man, Mii, Little Mac, Villager, Megaman, and WFT pre-E3 2013. He leaks. He decides to wait a long while as to see if he'll get in any trouble. By the time of the Smash direct, he leaks again, having seen models for Palutena, Shulk, Chorus Men, and Chrom by now, and having modeled Pokemon for the trailer, though not knowing who it'll be (remember, there's like 30+ Pokemon models in the trailer). E3 2014 comes around. He's heard there'll be DLC and that Lucas might get cut, and that Mii is now Mii Fighter. These sound more like employee gossip then actual firsthand accounts. He updates us. Then comes this. He again decides to report employee gossip, but ends up wrong, and finds out he is wrong about Chrom. However, he's still confident enough in the other two to believe they're in.

Alternatively, a teenager starts emailing Gematsu for lulz. That could be it too.

I think we'll be fine

hopefully.

Yeah, pretty much every character in this trailer would have made a nice unlockable one. Also Game and Watch, Palutena, Toon Link, Lucario, Luigi, even characters like Greninja and Rosalina.

Game & Watch has only been teased though, he still isn't listed as a confirmed character. As far as this recent reveal goes, I think only Lucina really makes a decent option for unlockable. Robin is a player avatar, like Villager and Mii, so him being a starter fits.

C.Falcon being an unlockable really doesn't make much sense, IMO. He wasn't one in Melee, and the most likely reason he seemingly was one in Brawl was because they decided to make every past unlockable character an unlockable again. If they aren't doing that this time, there's no reason to keep him as an unlockable.

Lucina, however, does seem to be the type of character who could be left as an unlockable, considering how she seems to be a clone without even any obvious big difference in her reveal. That does raise a flag, but I guess her early reveal and being a starter character could be just due to her big popularity with Awakening's fanbase.

Was expecting to see news about Shulk today...what the crap Lucina and Robin? That's really awesome, both are way better choices than Chrom. It's not a surprise to get more FE representation since FE: Awakening revitalized the FE brand.

As for the Xenoblade retweets, haven't they retweeted stuff related to Smash and Nintendo Directs before, and people assumed Shulk was being revealed then as well? Maybe Monolith Soft just loves Smash.

So after this, the last new character reveal trailer will be at a possible August direct or a new Smash direct during its Japan September release. So 1-2 more new characters, I guess?

Exposed. :P

The thing actually is that the mobile site and the normal site are different for some reason. Most likely just to keep the layout clean and the rows even. On the desktop version she has a square, like the veterans do.

What doesn't make sense here though, is the leaker having any reason to think that he knows Shulk, specifically, is going to be revealed today if he/she is no longer working there. Also, why split the info into chunks? Clearly the person doesn't care that much that they're spoiling the game...

The Shulk bit could just be getting caught up in the hype. We were all assuming 100% he'd be revealed, leaker might have done the same and tried to earn some brownie points... I dunno, it's a stretch, but it's possible.

The Mii Fighter bit is a good point - he's have to still be in the loop to know that, wouldn't he?

The problem with him being on the CG team is that it seems like some of these trailers are being outsourced. Like, Palutena, for example - why would the CG team have any contact at all with that trailer, since it was done by an anime studio whose name I can't remember and has no CG? Maybe he's part of the "final editing" crew, but in that case, wouldn't he know that Lucina and Robin were being revealed and not Shulk?

It really makes no sense lol, hopefully he'll respond to Sal.

R.O.B., Toon Link, Wolf and Lucario were revelaed after the game as released on the site

Palutena being outsourced is a valid point. Hmm. Final editing wouldn't make sense, he'd know it wasn't Chrom.
Perhaps he does work on models, though. Chrom is really detailed. If I saw that and I didn't know who the roster was, I'd say he was playable.

Rewatching the trailer, I noticed that Robin can use his normals even while holding the tome.

Maybe it is considered "wearable", like the Franklin Badge

SHAFT is the anime company that did her trailer.

I'm guessing two more. One in the August direct and another in early September before the 3DS release in Japan.

you guys i just saw the trailer

i just

i can't

THIS WILL BE

THE GREATEST GAME

OF ALL TIME

we didn't just get one female FE rep

WE GOT TWO

That's why!

Exposed. :P

*goes on desktop*

o:

That is strange then to keep her as a veteran size for desktop and newcomer size for mobile.

I'll still say she's not an alt.

Male wii fit trainer and female robin didn't get their own separate pages.

Was the trailer released at 10 AM EST? I missed the boat because I thought it was PM :/

Still, that's one of the best trailers I think I've ever seen. I am stunned (and very pleased) that we're getting Chrom, Lucina, and Robin. I was expecting Chrom only.

EDIT: Wait, Chrom's not listed on the site. What's the deal?

Do we know the gender of all of the pokemon in smash?

Is jiggly male or female? Is pikachu male or female? Should we consider them gender neutral? Do female charizards look different than male, and therefor the char in smash is male, etc?

Is there any documentation where it says 'he' or 'she' in a trophy?

Need to know the genders for
  • Pikachu
  • Lucario
  • Charizard
  • Greninja

Trying to make a list

Yes and yes.

Chrom is Robin's final smash apparently.

Well... You're getting a Chrom FS for Robin.

Pikachu's tail makes him a dude, Jigglypuff is either a girl or a cross dresser. The other two are ambiguous I think.

Female Pikachu has a heart shaped tail end I am pretty sure.

Jigglypuff has female-specific costumes but is always referred to as "it."

Don't know why anyone would consider Fire Emblem "overrepresented." It's a pretty venerable franchise. Four characters from Fire Emblem makes more sense than, say, three characters from Star Fox.

But we still need a new Donkey Kong character plz. ;_;
