Bwhahahaha! XD

Remember the time you were in high school and you said, "Man, Cutesy Buttons is basically just a female Marth. She's so boring."

You came around. You'll come around.

We'll see I guess, but I reserve every right to complain and moan in an incoherent and annoying manner if she turns out to be a clone. :P

But seriously, I hate clones.

You say that, but remember the time you fell for Cutesy Buttons but then discovered she was the result of a top-secret government cloning initiative?

You learned to work past your differences. That's love, man. That's love.

Now that Sakurai is a married man, he must outlet his innate Japanese need for waifus by manufacturing as many as possible in one game

Archers, lancers, thieves, dancers, tigers, wolfs, eagles, dragons...

Those are some of the types of Fire Emblem fighters we could have. But no, Lucina is cool, so another swordsman(woman) for the lot. Yay.

Even Robin needs a sword.

They could have gone with bride lucina for Lances and bows for lols. :p

I wonder if the slots were just empty place holders like Pokemon. Then Intelligent Systems and Sakurai just waited to see what characters got the best reception and fit in with the Smash cast. Do the individual developers get any say in who Sakurai picks?

All these classes in FE, and it's just swordwielders, swordwielders errywhere. I was hoping Tharja's popularity would give us a strict magic user. At least Robin's got tomes as well, I guess.

It'd be kind of hard to have a strict magic user in Smash because every character has to have close range options. You could just make all their close range attacks magic swipes of some sort, but that's not actually any different than just giving them a weapon to use. Robin is pretty much the closest thing we can get to a magic user.

The Fire Emblem characters were always my least favorite smash fighters. I just want to punch some iconic Nintendo mascots and some a-hole always picks the overpowered anime dude.

Actually, I do wonder if Sakurai ever asks his wife to dress up as the various characters in his game

I know someone who ate at a Japanese fast food restaurant once and they said that's tradition

Look up the meaning of opportunity cost.

I think you should look up the meaning of opportunity cost. A clone like Lucina, which doesn't even seem to have its own animations, is only taking the spot of another clone, not of any unique character. The resources used for her couldn't have gone for an unique character.

Just be happy that we got a magic user in Smash at all. It's a huge, esoteric element of FE that has previously never been represented at all in the game despite being a big part of the franchise's DNA. I think that's a little more important than mild distinctions between held weapons.

And if we had to settle for a blue-haired Lord, I'd much rather it be Lucina, who can at least claim to represent FE's huge cast of outstanding female characters rather than Chrom, who represents... well, more dudes.

Four FE reps is really more than I ever imagined we could realistically get in this sort of game.

Been out of the loop for a bit, are we still debating the parameters of newcomer vs. Roster-spaced Character? If so, I'm throwing my hat into the newcomer with a full space and trappings.

So it looks like there are now 36 (37 if you count the Robin variant) playable characters from what I can tell. I am not a huge Smash fan personally, but that seems like a big roster. How many were in the last version?

Edit: Looks like 39. So maybe only a few more reveals? Or do we think they'll go up to something like 50 chars?
