Lucina, Robin AND FEMALE ROBIN, & Captain Falcon Are Today's Smash Newcomers!

You say that, but remember the time you fell for Cutesy Buttons but then discovered she was the result of a top-secret government cloning initiative?

You learned to work past your differences. That's love, man. That's love.

But you forget. Cutesy Buttons turned when the government initiated the final step of their plan, which caused all clones to start attacking people in very similar (and thus annoying and disappointing) way to famous and unique fighters. After that day, I swore to never forgive Cutesy, or any clone for the sheer damage (and boredom) they caused.

:P

EDIT: Seriously, It won't be the end of the world if Luciana is a clone, but I'm not gonna be happy about it. I'm still angery that they included Lucas as well as Ness.

Credit to Nintendo for promoting their less popular series. If I ever buy a 3DS I'll definitely check out Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus. Lucina and Palutena seem cool

Oh man, I never considered that Lucina might just be the groundwork for an invasion :-O

First she steals our hearts, and then our souls

No, not anger, just complete and utter sadness.
Hmm, I'd feel like a sadist if I delighted in their misery

...but it -is- Smashboards, so link, please

Does everyone want a huge roster? I never liked that in fighting games, always a lot of balance issues. I have fun with SSB, but I dont like an overpowered character.

So it looks like there are now 36 (37 if you count the Robin variant) playable characters from what I can tell. I am not a huge Smash fan personally, but that seems like a big roster. How many were in the last version?

Edit: Looks like 39. So maybe only a few more reveals? Or do we think they'll go up to something like 50 chars?

We still have a lot of veterans left to reveal, which alone already push the count up to the high 40s. I expect 2 more newcomers left. The final roster count will probably be near 50 characters, yeah.

Just be happy that we got a magic user in Smash at all. It's a huge, esoteric element of FE that has previously never been represented at all in the game despite being a big part of the franchise's DNA. I think that's a little more important than mild distinctions between held weapons.

And if we had to settle for a blue-haired Lord, I'd much rather it be Lucina, who can at least claim to represent FE's huge cast of outstanding female characters rather than Chrom, who represents... well, more dudes.

Four FE reps is really more than I ever imagined we could realistically get in this sort of game.
I think Robin it's great. Like, one of the best newcomers so far. A Fire Emblem sorcerer with male and female version and Chrom in his/her final smash? I love it.

But that makes the Lucine choice even worse.

We all have to thank Fire Emblem's Awakening's great success for having 4 FE characters in Smash Bros.

P.S. Now the "Guess who's that trophy!" theory is getting more believable :D

The count is:
36 full characters
38 counting Mii Fighter Variants
39 counting them and G&W, who was revealed but doesn't have a page.

There are 38 characters confirmed if you count Robin as one and Mii Fighters as three.

The Fire Emblem characters were always my least favorite smash fighters. I just want to punch some iconic Nintendo mascots and some a-hole always picks the overpowered anime dude.

It's hard to say Marth isn't iconic, he's the frontman for the FE series, which has been around as long as stuff like Metroid and Kirby.

The others are a bit more debatable, especially Lucina seeing as she, at best, the third most important character in her game (behind Robin and Chrom).

If you can play Gamecube games check out Fire Emblem Path of Radiance (Ike's game) and for Wii there is Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn (also kind of Ike's game).

I don't think balance has ever been a priority when it comes to Smash games though. It was never designed to be a traditional fighting game.

It'll be near 50 I would think, counting the unconfirmed original 12 and hidden characters. Game and Watch also was shown but not confirmed.

Falcon was a total boss in that reveal.

indeed, you need 3 FE characters to fight the captain

As I said before I find it very funny that she isn't even in the newcommer slot on the smash site.

And I find that funny.

what I find funny is that Palutena's art showcases Pit, Link and her breast

Kinda weird that Mr. Gay Men Watch appeared in the Pac Man reveal yet hasn't been actually confirmed... Maybe he's only going to be an assist trophy this time?

I'd expect around 50 at this point. SSB4's development started on Brawl's engine, and many animations still seem to remain the same in spite of some tweaked characters. I don't see a reason to cut many veterans, which would be necessary for a 39-40 character line up at this point. Especially after the reveal of a new character like Lucina, who seems to be a clone of Marth, straight reusing most of his animations (something that happened with 6 characters in Melee, the second game, but had been mostly phased out from Brawl, the last one), I don't see any reason to that would lead to generalized character cuts, only some specific cases (like Snake possibly due to licensing).

I imagine the hair color will change with the costume color choices.

Mine had long black hair, so I definitely won't get an option for that.

Mine had purple (indigo?) hair. The Avatar's cloak has purple-ish hues in it, so it probably won't change that much for either of us. Sucks that we wouldn't be able to switch up the hairstyle and face, though.

actually my robin at least the male version looked like that but with blue hair hahahahahahahah so seeing this robin made me go holy crap

Yeah, it seems like a lot of people went with the default. But the last thing I wanted to be was the stereotypically sexy and attractive anime douche, so I bucked series tradition and made my character sort of middle-aged looking (face 03) with shoulder-length purple hair. Now I wish I would have been like everyone else. >_<

Is this not one of the best character designs and videogame models ever?
