Lucina, Robin AND FEMALE ROBIN, & Captain Falcon Are Today's Smash Newcomers!

It's hard to say Marth isn't iconic, he's the frontman for the FE series, which has been around as long as stuff like Metroid and Kirby.

The others are a bit more debatable, especially Lucina seeing as she, at best, the third most important character in her game (behind Robin and Chrom).
I'd argue that Marth over in the west is more known for being "that powerful dude in the Smash games" than for Fire Emblem. Up until the success of the 3DS version, Fire Emblem has been rather obscure outside of Japan.

but my argument is all anecdotal and gut feeling and I could easily be owned by the sales figures of some GBA title or whatever

Wait a minute, I checked the official site and see that Lucina is her own character. Isn't she just a clone of Marth? Why the hell isn't she an alt skin? I thought they were trying to cut back on clones in this game?

They attempted that in Brawl (giving many unique animations to the clones), it was pointless and people still complained about clones.

Don't see how people are getting that they were attempting to cut clones here when we had Toon Link revealed here fairly early, and he was the most cloneish character in Brawl, seemingly with no big changes here.

No, but it claimed Chrom was a playable character. He's not. It also claimed we were gonna get Shulk today. We didn't.

It's still not completely debunked--it's ridiculous to assume everything they've said up to now have been nothing but guesses--but you can expect some people will treat it as such and dismiss anyone who thinks it still has any truth to it.

I am one of the believers of the leak.
But come on, of course it will be useless at this point if not everything was accurate, I was waiting for Shulk, but got something even better!

It is unreliable now.

Pokemon is worth over 1.5 billion dollars.

No, it's not overrepresented.

I don't care how much it's worth, I think it is overrepresented.

Are you saying that Pokemon should have less than 4 characters?

I think there are several more on the way and yes.

Relax, there's still several characters to go. It'll even out more.
That said, Pokemon, Zelda, and Mario should be about the same. They're ninty's biggest franchises, especially Pokemon and Mario. Pokemon rotates characters in and out of the spotlight more than Mario does, which is why it has a more unique cast from each game to game than Mario does.

Relax? I was relaxed. I was giving my opinion after watching the latest video.

It is the second most financially successful franchise Nintendo has, what are on good sir?
It deserves it more that any other series in Smash Bros.

Again, I couldn't care less how successful it is for Nintendo. I've never cared for Pokemon as characters in any of the Smash Bros. games.

Even if it was a genuine leak, it clearly wasn't up to date with development and is therefore useless.

I'd say it's not useless simply because it puts the possibility of the Chorus Men on the table, which close to no one would have ever even considered without the leak. Shulk is still likely and highly requested with or without the leak, so it doesn't really "help" with that.

I love how Captain Falcon was kicking Lucina's ass with hand-to-hand parries and stuff.

It's also pretty much implied he kicked Chrom's ass before she started fighting him.

It also got me thinking that Nintendo should consider having some "rivals" in Smash, the same way Street Fighter does them..

Like Pit vs Link, or Captain Falcon vs the Fire Emblem characters. We could easily say that Captain Falcon was after them because there was a bounty on Chrom's head.

Rivals add to much of a story to what is literally just figurines fighting.
Plus they were terrible in PSASBR.

I still don't understand the "Wolf is a Fox clone" sentiment. I can only assume those people never played with or against Wolf at any point, ever. Final Smash is the same, specials are similar but definitely not the same, and every attack using the A button is unique.

I think Fire Emblem and Pokemon are too overrepresented at this point.
Cool. I think FE has been tragically underrepresented for the past four games and I'm happy that it's getting some actual spotlight that extends a little past its' plethora of blue-haired male Lords. I'd be happier still with even more FE characters - it's a diverse enough franchise with diverse enough characters to merit that.

I don't really get 'over-representation', anyways. At four characters, FE would represent like a twelfth of the total roster at most, and I hardly think their omission would make longshots like Mach Rider or whatever else 'possible'.

Whether you like them or not, that's your opinion. However, there are those, who are fans of the pokemon, are glad that they're in smash.

First leak was obviously true while the second leak is fake. How is that hard to comprehend?
If the Chorus Men turn out to be playable (which looks likely, based on Rhythm Heaven enemies in Smash Run), I'll say the second leak was legit, as well, but somehow got the bit about Chrom incorrect.

I don't care for any of the Zelda characters. Doesn't mean I'm going to call it overrepresented.

Pokemon is one of Nintendo's most prominent franchises. It makes sense for it to have a lot of characters.

Sounds to me like they're not over-represented, they're represented exactly the right amount and you just don't like them.

I actually think Zelda is underrepresented, considering how big of a deal the franchise is. Ought to have a fifth rep by now.

wishful thinking that because of WWHD, Toon Ganon could be possible :(

don't really care whos represented or not, give me new interesting characters with unique mechanics.

The Chrom FS model looks really good lol.

EDIT: I usually do not listen to who people think is over or under represented. There is usually some strong bias.

Golden Falcon. :O

I'd like to point out that his shirt button positions have been changed to not look like golden nipples. Preorder canceled.

I would have loved if they replaced Toon link with Majora's mask link. He could switch between deku, goron and zoro forms with Fierce Deity as a final smash.

Looking at reaction videos, I'm noticing that a lot of people don't know crap about Fire Emblem.

It's Japan's reaction to Little Mac all over again.

The funny thing is I don't know shit about Fire Emblem but I'm still excited.

Same here. Never heard of Robin before today, but we now have a badass looking magic user in smash and I'm excited to try him out.

Browsing through the thread, FE haters stay hating. Best Nintendo franchise gets best Nintendo treatment. I'm cruising on good vibes and good feelings. RIP in peace, Anna, but home-girl, you died for a good cause.

Robin will carry on her righteous legacy with the Levin Sword

Well the second leak hasn't exactly had a good track record so far. The ones it had correct were also in the original leak. However, it had a generic "Pokemon from X/Y" listed which was useless as a prediction, and it got Chrom completely wrong.

I'm still inclined to think that the leaker is someone who saw some of the newcomer trailers early in the lead-up to E3, but doesn't have any direct access to the game's development. The second leak might be filled out by educated guesses rather than any real insider information.

The reason that the leaker claimed Shulk would be revealed today might be because the leaker saw the same Monolith Soft re-tweets everyone else picked up on. It was a good reason to expect Shulk to appear.

I actually think Shulk is going to be in, but I don't think that would be any reason to believe the leaker. I predicted Shulk on my roster prediction last year; it isn't really an unreasonable guess.
