Lucina, Robin AND FEMALE ROBIN, & Captain Falcon Are Today's Smash Newcomers!

... What if Chrom is a Marth alt, and selecting Chrom makes Marth the NPC during the Final Smash? If Chrom is a Marth alt, that would mean that Chrom wouldn't have his own tile on the website, which is indeed the case, so it's not impossible.

Did Lucina's mask show up in the trailer? Wonder if it's part of a taunt or stage entrance.

The mask is in the game in some capacity, at least:

While I'm ecstatic about Lucina and Robin, I really wish Chrom was an alt for Lucina. I'm also a but worried about Shulk being in this game. I really, really want him as a playable character - or at least something from Xenoblade

First leak was obviously true while the second leak is fake. How is that hard to comprehend?

Exactly. I always believed the first leak really was a leak--believed that ever since they got Wii Fit Trainer right--but was never confident in the second leak. All the second leak got right were Pac-Man and Mii (who were in the first leak), "a Pokemon from X and Y" (extremely vague), and Palutena (obvious pick).

Wait a minute, I checked the official site and see that Lucina is her own character. Isn't she just a clone of Marth? Why the hell isn't she an alt skin? I thought they were trying to cut back on clones in this game?

They never said anything cutting back on clones in this game.

Besides, it could be Marth/Roy-style or Fox/Falco-style relationship.

This reveal is so hype, if only because I thought the future reveals had been mapped out fairly definitively, so a surprise is the best thing that could've happened. And not just one, but two! And from Fire Emblem, of all things.

Full of possibilities, the future is.

But what about Goku!

All we need is Roy to complete the ultimate Smash Bros Fire Emblem love fest. Screw the haters, Fire Emblem 4 Lyfe

I have to say, considering all the Awakening characters, I'm surprised they didn't engage with the creepy Tharja fandom.

I'm not, she's literally a standard nobody character like every other non-Lord FE character. Mia is also pretty damn popular but obviously never had a chance.

Which is part of why Lucina is kind of surprising, she's not really a "nobody character" and plays a relatively important role in the story, but she's still not one of the real "lead characters," especially outside the first half of the game.

Give it up:

Update: Nintendo has clarified that Chrom will not be a playable character in Super Smash Bros.

As a result, today's announcement revealed three fighters: the returning Captain Falcon, and newcomers Lucina and Robin.

A lot of cards would need to be turned in; FE is just not that popular.
Wasn't awakening really fast selling all things considered? It might not be mainstream but it sold enough for Nintendo to be pleased.

I'm surprised they haven't announced bravely default characters for this yet. The first half of the buttons do one thing and the other half of the buttons just repeat everything.

Well the second leak hasn't exactly had a good track record so far. The ones it had correct were also in the original leak. However, it had a generic "Pokemon from X/Y" listed which was useless as a prediction, and it got Chrom completely wrong.

I'm still inclined to think that the leaker is someone who saw some of the newcomer trailers early in the lead-up to E3, but doesn't have any direct access to the game's development. The second leak might be filled out by educated guesses rather than any real insider information.

The reason that the leaker claimed Shulk would be revealed today might be because the leaker saw the same Monolith Soft re-tweets everyone else picked up on. It was a good reason to expect Shulk to appear.

I actually think Shulk is going to be in, but I don't think that would be any reason to believe the leaker. I predicted Shulk on my roster prediction last year; it isn't really an unreasonable guess.
We already have a good idea for why it was generic "Pokémon from X/Y." Sakurai said at the developer roundtable at E3 that there was a Pokémon slot reserved at the start of the roster selection. Greninja wasn't finalized until later. It's possible the leaker was exposed to the roster in the early phases, before Greninja had been chosen... and before a FE lord had been chosen, for that matter. In which case, he might've known they were going to have a Fire Emblem character, but incorrectly assumed it would be the main lord like in past Smash Bros.
