Lucina, Robin AND FEMALE ROBIN, & Captain Falcon Are Today's Smash Newcomers!

Don't know if this was posted already but I saw this on Kotaku.

Ha! Oh man, this is great!

It also makes me want to take a summer vacation.

Jesus, poor Chrom. :( He deserves so much better. He's better than smelly old Lucina.

This is a lot of wrong.

I do like Chrom as well, though.

Really, we should all be glad there's more Fire Emblem representation, because it's a good thing. I was actually surprised. I think I actually liked every character in Awakening.

hmmmm.... so what other recent nintendo properties can they snag characters from?

I feel like they pretty much hit all of them O.o

would be nice if wonderful 101 had a role :X

In regards to the leaker saying Shulk would be shown today: I think that's easily explained by him knowing (or thinking he knows) the characters, but not necessarily when or where they'll be shown.

So let's say he's legit. He knows Shulk is in, and when he sees Monolith Soft retweet, he assumes that this time (like previous occasions with X trailers) it will be Xenoblade-related. It's a bad assumption for him to make, of course, but it doesn't preclude the possibility he had some level of access at some other point in time.

Fair enough. Although in regards to the first leak, it's worth noting that in addition to Wii Fit Trainer, it was also remarkable how Villager and Mega Man were included, since at the time we were all operating under the assumption that Villager wasn't an option (Sakurai having said so himself during Brawl), and we were also under the impression that Mega Man was an inactive franchise we shouldn't expect to see anytime soon.

There was a similar issue where the Halo E3 trailer last year got listed as a Prince of Persia trailer in a leak. Chief was walking around the desert in a poncho. This stuff happens.

Lucina being similar to Marth is on purpose. Since Lucina's whole role in Fire Emblem Awakening is "Hey, I just came through this magic portal, I'm Marth and I time-traveled to save teh futurez!"

And then a few chapters later "Wait... you're a girl? You lied you Marth-wannabe!"

Lucina dressing/acting like Marth is canon.

thats the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

In this thread: there's apparently no such thing as a lucky guess.

Lets just admit that it was a well-played fabrication and move on.

Robin was likely included for the unique play style that prevents spamming special moves. Seems cool.

With all this sword in my Smash, though, the likelihood of Takamaru diminishes. Oh well, maybe in another 5-6 years.

If you listen during the "No, you'll get it today." bit, you can hear Robin say, "Chrom, on my mark!" So to those saying he's an assist trophy, no. Not unless every playable character voice actor for whatever reason was given the line, "Chrom, on my mark!", including the ones who don't speak in a recognizable language ("Pik, Pikachu!")

Fire Emblem 6 is a game that favors units with high movement just like FE 4.

FE 4 due to the fact that the maps were huge.
FE 6 due to the turn limits for the gaiden Maps.

Hector was an axe user with armor pen axe where pretty much every boss was a general and could promote early in the default game.

Roy gets a bad rap because he's one of the weaker lords of modern Fire Emblems (post Kaga).and people playing Fire Emblem 6 are playing it after they played one of the other modern ones.

The FE6 gaiden requirements are very, very lenient. If it's for S ranking, you pretty much need to rescue and drop either game. Roy also has an armor/horse effective weapon that's exclusive to him, so he can actually prove his worth in the early game.

Hector and, to a lesser extent, Oswin are revered for their walling capabilities, but funnily enough, they're both not very good in S rank playthroughs.

I thought it was an obvious Final Smash for Robin. The "on my mark" seems on point for the quips the Fire Emblem characters make during tag moves in Awakening. What better way to represent that mechanic than a Final Smash and a Chrom appearance? I just saw the trailers so I haven't gotten the chance to comb through all the discussion, so forgive me if this was said already.

...also Ridley hype lives on.

If Lucina is a clone character (sure looks that way from the moves she was doing in the reveal) I have to wonder why they wasted a slot on her in such a large roster instead of making her an option when selecting Marth like Tekken did back in the day.

I'll be playing the genuine article (Marth) anyway, but good for those that wanted her in.

I mean, and here's a thought

What if she's identical to Marth in style but different in properties like every clone in the history of the series

Yeah, that's what I'm expecting -- a Lucina clone of Marth with modified properties like different sword tip functionality, lighter weight, faster speed, extra hits on certain moves, etc. I actually suggested this before as a DLC idea, back when I resigned myself to Chrom as the newcomer and thought any other FE characters would have to come extra.

I shouldn't have laughed, but I did.

You don't believe hard enough. When will people learn that in as many ways as a person can use their hands and feet to fight, so too can one use a weapon?

regarding the leak, yeah obviously there are degrees of "correctness" as far as the leaker's credibility is concerned and blah blah blah contingencies and speculation on unforeseen circumstances, but the main takeaway from this morning has got to be that the remaining newcomer list should not be taken totally at face value.

But for the fact that we are at the "bottom of the barrel" / running out of remaining newcomers for Sakurai to reveal and I suppose the Rhythm Heaven enemies. I would assume we get two more of these promotional reveal trailers.

In any case, in my mind it's worth noting that there's a different momentum perception on the leak and rightfully so because there were a couple of significant misfires or "omissions" on the leaker's part. Prior to this, the leak was more or less law, and the comments on Rosalina and "X/Y Pokemon" were brushed off. Now, the leak isn't nearly as essential, it's not helpful to speculation, no matter if it's "right or not." Especially this close to release. I feel like speculation on the credibility of the leaker is pointless because they're not making all of the right calls and they're not going to attest to the means of acquiring the knowledge. I'll be honest and say I've been wanting to say "the hell with the leak" but I think what's written above is fair regardless.

The last good leak I am aware of was the Marvel 3 leak - that was a totally complete, 100/100 legit leak.

For what it's worth, I was hoping to see the leak dismissed so i could hopefully see Isaac. After today I am becoming more convinced Isaac is not coming.

So guys, what newcomers and veterans will be revealed next?

Don't rush to all be in consensus like you always are

newcomers: Shulk

veterans: wario, falco

edit: or hmm, i dunno. as a quasi-mario character they could just reveal wario last or not promote him and have him show up in game. to "space out" mario character reveals. But now everything's coming up falco IMO. too late in the game not to have another Star Fox character show up

Awesome! Finally, Falcon is confirmed. (Not like they wouldn't have put him in anyway.)

Also, the FE characters are cool as well, I just haven't played Awakening.
