Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

It wouldn't surprise me if some of the pro Melee players, having so much of their ego wrapped up in their success, would be quick to dismiss SSB4 if they're not immediately "the best" at it. Rather than learning a new game and its intricacies so they can consistently beat others, they may try to invalidate the game so that Melee is considered most legit. "Blame the game, not the player," etc.

Dunno, even if he has, I'm probably not going to accept a serious opinion from someone who has already outed their agenda.
Hungrybox is the best Jigglypuff player in the world. Kinda weird that you wouldn't accept a serious opinion from him because of a comment like that.

Fortunately, it seems like Nintendo is positioning itself to support Smash 4's competitive scene, so hopefully both communities learn to play nicely.

Seriously when the game is out and he is giving impressions what am I supposed to think? I mean why would anyone say that? What does he have to gain if the new smash is no good competitively? Melee never goes away?

Hungrybox probably wants smash 4 to suck because then he won't have to relearn all the advanced tech he's know for when playing jigglypuff.

Who would actively desire a new game in a series they claim to love so much to suck? Especially considering all that has been shown to us by it's creator, who is actively trying to make something like that not happen?

At this point, you'd have to take a look at yourself. Something ain't right.

Updated that wallpaper for those who used it. Decided to change it from grouping by series, to grouping them in a way that looks good without having to mirror any characters. If you want the hi-res, I'll pm a link.

If I understand correctly, ShockingAlberto is taking issue with someone actively hoping SSB4 will be bad, which would be a bizarre thing to "hope" for any game, released or unreleased. That suggests the person is not willing to give the game a fair shake beyond their limited time playing it so far, and suggests a desire for the game they've already mastered to stay in vogue because they're already good at it.

Considering that Mew2King is one of the best Brawl players and hates the game, I don't think it has anything to do with their actual success.

I can understand that desire. He enjoys Melee and doesn't want to see it diminish like Marvel vs Capcom 2 did with MvC3's release.

I don't agree with it, because I think people are taking precautions so that Melee doesn't die with Smash 4's release, but I understand it.

I will play devil's advocate here and say that this is a one sentence Reddit post we're judging the guy on. Maybe he means he doesn't want it to succeed competitively because that will damage the competitive scene of Melee, maybe something else. So, I'm not going to write him off just because of this.

Could you make a version of this without the Smash Bros logo?

I don't think he wants it to suck anymore. He said that a while ago, before the invitational was even announced. With all the support Nintendo is giving the competitive scene, anybody who wants Smash 4 to suck is out of their mind.

What is it that makes Lucina more main material for me than Marth?

Lucina's Nair implies she's closer to Brawl/Melee Marth compared to SSB4 Marth, who according to Ken was nerfed. Unless Marth has been buffed by then, Ken probably just wants something a bit more familiar.

Granted, there really isn't enough to go by in terms of footage for Lucina, but I really do hope Lucina is more of a "Falco"-kind of clone.

But he said he wanted the game to suck without any actual clarification or indication that it could have been a joke!

His opinions from now on are worthless. worthless!

Is he still involved in the Air Dash Online game project? It shut down to restructure based on feedback when the kickstarter flopped. The demo though...TONS of potential.

This is one of the many reasons why I have no interest in "competitive" smash

Lol, and he still got invited to the Smash 4 Invitational. If I was Nintendo, I would have given his spot to Armada or Fiction for that.

Didn't Prog say that NoA reached out to him a while ago about participants? In hindsight, I could see the post being a red herring, would be a bit hard to believe he'd one day say "I HOPE SMASH SUCKS" then the next day "Oh, btw I'm playing Smash 4 at e3, gonna love it"

I'd love the high rez pls. Or you could use i.minus. :) I love it though.

Melee wouldn't go away, yes, but if it loses the limelight then his skills do as well. Pretty selfish remarks if people say they want Smash 4 to "suck" just so Melee is the "best."

How does Marth reward spacing?

I haven't played in such a long time, lol.

The tip of his sword does more damage and knock back, so you have to balance between medium sword hits to combo, and using the tip to do more damage and kill.

Lucina does damage on her entire sword, so the advanced combo techniques of Marth aren't possible.

And Roy is crazy bananas with doing the most damage on the hilt of the sword or some ridiculous nonsense like that.

There is truth to this, but a lot of it really does have to do with the game. I remember this happening when MVC3 came out, (lol I remember Wong's reaction on the first day..."back to mvc2!!), but after a while the game just refused to let up, and even many MvC2 vets started coming around.

There's still plenty of people that dislike MvC3 and stick with 2, but after it all leveled out, most realized it was an exciting game in the same vein.

I don't think of Smash in the same way I do other fighting games, the sequels are just always better to me, but there is a bigger reason why games like Brawl didn't live up to competitive standards rather than vets just saying "fuck this I don't want to learn it." Although that is naturally a factor.

People in this thread will jump on anything that confirms their negative beliefs about the competitive fanbase, we've not seen the end of that one sentence in a reddit post.

Love it. Palutena's spot is just so...perfect.

The tip of marths blade does increased damage and knockback whereas the rest of the blade is much weaker.

For lucina it doesn't matter what part of the blade you hit with, the effect is always the same.

Guys

Lets settle down

This was 5 months ago. 4 months before the tournament. It's entirely possible he's changed his stance after seeing how involved Nintendo is trying with the community.

haha he would say that at first

Roy's sword does a lot of damage at the center. Only problem is Roy is a lot slower and has no real approach to allow his gimmick to work reliably.

The gimmick works for Marth because he can play fast and space well.
