Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

This are pretty amazing. These are the kind of alts Sakurai needed to add, not the halfassed Link thing. No, seriously, the Link texture swap is hideous and looks more of amateur hour than professional. I would have prefered to don't have alts for Link altogether than have that thing.

There is a huge difference between people working for free on a mod of an released game and creating content for an game in development with a schedule, a budget and a lot of other important work to do. Some people should not underrate the work the developers have to do beforehand. Creating alts is properly at the bottom of the primary list.

Never mind, I assumed it was that guy and when he first did the 60fps videos, he left them at normal speed so you were watching at X2 if you wanted to watch at 60fps.

Haha, ok. Either way, everyone should check out that video to see how smooth smash really is on 3DS. It stood out to me immediately when I first played it (I was playing MH3U in line, which is like 20-30 fps, so the contrast was insane at the time).

Speaking of wizards, where's my eggplant wizard

Hopefully a Smash Run enemy alongside Tempura Wizard.

Making an eggplant version for all 40-50 characters is probably too much work. Slapping a tanooki tail and ears on everyone isn't that big of a deal, but scaling an eggplant and then slapping legs on the bottom... doesn't really work for all characters, especially ones in skirts/dresses or ones with really short legs (like yoshi). You'll run into a lot of clipping issues for some, i'd bet.

Yeah, at least it's somewhat stopped me from worrying if the game will be bad on a regular 3DS because I really don't want to buy an XL just for one game.

The desire to alter Ganondorf doesn't necessarily mean that people want him to have completely "canon" moves that stem directly from his in-game abilities, but rather that they'd just prefer him to be unique in his moveset and general playstyle; rather than remain as a clone of a completely unrelated character. Even in terms of competitive viability, you're not losing much from cutting Brawl Ganondorf and replacing the character with a new version.

To be fair, I've not talked about the Brawl version of ganondorf, you can't refresh his double jump with an aerial wizard foot and it doesn't combo into flame choke.

Brawl ganondorf was shit competitively, but I'm hoping they make him more like his melee incarnation and give him a few bowser-style changes.

In my mind, I can't see say a projectile that can be reflected with any attack as being good for ganondorf, it might be fun to those people who don't take it seriously seeing as they can play tennis or whatever and I'd probably enjoy that for a game or two as well, but in the long run it's just removing one of my favourite characters from the game basically.

I know you do. We have differences of opinion on smash bros. From what I gather, you'd like good fighters, and if they're referential, that's a bonus. For me, I'd like referential fighters, and if they're good, that's a bonus. I play smash to have fun and because it lets me use my favorite characters in video games, not because of how good of a fighter it is. That's why ganondorf being a falcon clone makes me sad :(

If the new game was melee and we'd just found out he was a falcon clone I'd be more inclined to agree with you, but he's been in 2 games now and I don't like the idea of removing unique playstyles from the game and ganondorf does play completely differently to falcon despite having the same moves.

If anything I'd expect his neutral game and recovery to be reworked, though I wouldn't hope for him using a sword (for some reason I've never liked the idea of him using a sword in smash anyway, I can't not see it looking weird in my mind, probably because he doesn't use one in OoT, despite it probably being TP ganon again, I think it's the sage sword he uses in his taunt, I don't like it).

If both versions of the game were coming out together, I'd easily be buying the Wii U version first. However, the more videos I see of the 3DS version the more excited I am about getting it.

That secret thing is probably referring to the fact Shulk wasn't revealed, but it is a shitty excuse that isn't worth anything.

So Bandai-Namco, which is almost dedicated to fighting games, does not know all the fighters that, for example, need to be balanced? Why does this strike me as odd?

Sakurai clearly programmed, created the models for, balanced and voiced Robin, Lucina and Falcon on the morning of the trailer, then put it together himself and uploaded it without anyone else knowing.

Of course. How stupid of me not to think of this very likely scenario.

I think the telltale sign of a fake leak is going back to explain themselves when they're wrong, complete with a "You'll see, you'll all see!" comment at the end.

Not to say the entire leak was fake, but this guy clearly guessed at some things with incomplete information and now doesn't want to admit to that.

Took a bit longer than usual cause I'm on vacation and stuck on a laptop, but here they are.

I've heard that Bandai-Namco, other devs at Nintendo, and marketing/localization staff aren't actually involved with this game at all. Sakurai is literally making this game by himself. No one else touches his Smash Bros.

Just a rumor though. Y'know.

your rumor is so wrong
it's obviously Sakurai's cat single-handedly doing everything

Probably late but:

That "Super Bash Sisters" pic got me thinking

What are some new FEMALE characters you think they might still add?

Impa
Dixie Kong
Captain Syrup
Ashley
Mona
Medusa
Inkling

Guys, the tomes don't go through a cycle, each one is tied to a direction. Most likely:
Neutral - Thunder
Side - Fire
Up - Wind
Down - Dark

After Robin uses one of the moves, that becomes the time that he holds, which may or may not effect titls and grabs.

This is what I figured as well. I'm also thinking that there's a "hold button" mechanic (think of holding Zelda's Din's Fire to make it travel farther) as well to cycle through the different levels of each magic. Normals are handled mostly with Bronze and Levin swords with the exceptions being the rapid jab that takes on attributes of the tome last held.

Actually you might be right about him not doing everything. IIRC his cat does motion capture and balancing for the whole roster, and his wife does the menus. But it's mostly him.

I hope you used a usb mouse/tablet, nobody should ever have to subject themselves to spriting with a laptop touchpad.

Maybe it's just because I don't like touchpads, but I hate spriting on a laptop.

And also, is there photo evidence of the Sneaky Spirit in Smash Run? I've heard it a hundred times and everyone takes it as fact but I haven't actually seen it.

Mewtwo is simply not coming back unless game freak wants to promote Mega Mewtwo. Game freak likes promoting new Pokémon, that's why they have Sakurai Greninja.

False. Sakurai said they choose the Pokémon they want.

I know this is an d line of discussion but I just want to remind you that EVERYONE plays Smash to have fun.

I've used an USB mouse, at home I use a tablet.

I've sprited with touchpad before; it is not pretty.

I'll be less cynical for once and say that that's probably just a bad choice of words on his part.

I'm assuming he just means he doesn't take it as seriously.

Of course :) I just meant that what makes the game fun for me isn't how good/balanced the characters are :)

Correct, poor choice of words. :)
