Fighting Games Weekly | July 14-20 | Bracket Resets Full of Tears (of Joy?)

Here's a small presentation of the Evo 2014 stream viewership by @brianbickell. Quick takeaways:

  • Overall viewership growth seemed flatter than I thought (but that's not knowing IGNs numbers).
  • The early start for BBCP hurt it a bit, but it seem like it evened out by the finals.
  • Smash fans are nuts (although the numbers a bit disappointing given what the Invitational drew).
  • UMvC3 isn't dead (for stream monsters, anyway).
  • e-sports esque breaks do hurt viewership.
  • SF4 is still on too goddamn late.
These stream numbers do not count IGN or NicoNico's viewers (and there were a shitton of people watching on NicoNico, if I remember correctly).

So what happened that caused all these players to leave like this

They have probably been thinking about leaving for awhile but held on due to hope/some semblance of respect for Triforce/etc, even despite how he not been showing results for a good time now.

Sanford of all people leaving is probably what was the true tipping point.

"People realized Marvel started" lol

Nice numbers all around, nice to see KI doing good numbers.

Apparently BBCP is getting a major update if I'm believing my screaming twitter feed this morning.

CP"2" with Lambda and Celica, targeting this Fall for arcades.
I am not liking what they're doing to Nu/Lambda.

Also why does Dustloop hate speculation so much lol

I love that ArcSys is showing so much support for their games but that is going to make it so much more painful due to the "There Can Only Be One" mentality in our community over here.

There's usually a separate thread for speculation on specific news. It's basically there to help filter out spam to another thread lol

Laughed at that too lol.

It was a good read. I'm curious to know what IGN's numbers are like. Someone also mentioned how Nico had what was it, 60k people watching SF on Friday alone? (Did they host their own finals stream too?)
Nico had their own finals streams with their own commentators, and from what I heard top 8 of USF4 averaged about 200,000 viewers -- on a Monday morning, in Japan. That's nuts. Capcom (and by extension, Namco, ArcSys etc.) is fucking up hard by not pushing the e-sports angle more in Japan. The hunger for that sort of content is very real.

I don't know exactly who this applies to, but I do know that Triforce was housing players at the Arc who would otherwise have been homeless.

niconico viewer count isn't based on concurrent viewers. the numbers are just total channel views, that's it.

Somebody from the poverty chat said it was 245,000.

i know most of you guys don't care about VF, but for those of you who do, you owe it to yourselves to check out last night's NYC_VF stream.

here's the archive

legendary japanese kage player Kyasao stops by to bruise up some of NA's best players, including Rodney (Akira) and Denkai (Jacky) who have been playing since like VF3.

there's also the long-awaited FT10 between Rodney and Tricky (Eileen).

enjoy!

So, actually being on the backend of this I can tell you. Speculation sucks, people say wild and crazy and stupid things, while actual news or constructive things get buried. All it takes is one guy going "maybe Lambda will be a rushdown char" and then 20 posts of stupid will follow. Also, things get off topic or into the not relevant category fast.

The main reason you see me yelling is because I don't want another Kokopacolypse. The day after she was announced 500 posts were deleted in the BB gen discussion because it was all pointless and dumb. That's when we started making "hype and speculation" threads and said "You can be as silly as you want here so you're not bogging down the main thread".

Thanks, I'll check it out :)

Free patch or paid expansion CP2 style?

Right now it's just an arcade update so who the hell knows. 2 New chars so if it does come to console it'll probably have DLC involved at the least. It looks to just be the new chars and balance changes. It is worth noting the ver title it literally BBCPv2.0 according to Famitsu.

I'm happy to announce that myself and all members of #gafranbats are now members of EMP, except jlai. He's a bit too mashy for a sponsorship.

I checked out the Nico stream on Finals day and Markman was on and he announced they are doing a USF4 tournament at TGS similar to last yrs. hopefully we will get an American stream again because dealing with Nico without being premium sucks.

Have they given a release date?

It really, really bothers me when new characters are announced without a gameplay trailer. I want to know if Celica is my style or not ASAP so I can move on or get into it.

I hear that. 6 new DLC units announced for the most recent Gundam arcade version (Maxi Boost) and they're going to be available in the PS3 game (Full Boost) this year too. But just announcements, no vids. Bamco plz :(

Got to trickle out that information and build that hype.

Also its Gundam VS, you can make a very safe guess as to how things will play out anyway.
