make a new thread if it's so interesting

edit: FUCK

er

...that Shantae QL was pretty good! Wayforward should bring over more stuff to Steam, I love the 3DS but I feel like it limits their exposure somewhat. (Not that Steam is a crystal clear marketplace any more, but more users more money yadda yadda.)

So I'm confused.

I thought Shantae Director's cut was a thing for the kickstarter. Is that not the case? Where did this game come from other than being a remake of a GBA game?

I didn't know about it coming from the Half-Genie Hero KS. That's a neat idea for a stretch goal. (It's a DSiWare game, btw, one of the few worth getting.)

Seeing as it is the opinion of someone who criticizes Giant Bomb, but her usual highlighted critic is limited to 140 character or less, I thought it was worth posting a more fleshed out version of her concerns to try a and get an insight into her thoughts.

Or if you want me to make quip like you did. Wow really passive aggressive comment there. Thanks.

I call bullshit on 'not eating onions until 25.' That's like not having eaten chicken (unless raised in a vegetarian household).

Onions are devil food. I didn't have them until I was in my 20s and avoid them whenever possible still.

to this day, i still don't like fresh onions. Hate them. As a child, they would make me gag.

Now, i can enjoy onions in all sorts of forms but i still can't stand fresh onions. Keep that shit off of everything, please.

Feeding Dan needs to happen.
I would double my sub for that.

It's a perfect sequel to their old energy drink reviews.

"Okay Dan, what does this taste like?"
"Err... we didn't have this in Minnesota, fella."
"Wrong. Now, name the historical event in this picture"
"Fuck."

Yeah, definitely referring more to raw/fresh onions. If you don't go overboard cooking with onions is tolerable. Not preferable, but tolerable. Also when I say I didn't have them before I was in my 20s, I ate them once or twice as a child and learned as I grew older that I was accurate in my childhood assessment.

Hmm, probably very culture dependent type of thing.

I love onions and garlics, and will sometimes eat the fresh slices while slicing them.

But again, I eat most food.

no problem

Now kiss.
Edit: Wet french kiss.

We can stop the "Dan doesn't know something" thing now, he admitted he actually saw Dunston Checks In. (I honestly don't know why this movie seems so popular)

If you've really seen Dunston Checks In you'd know it is the Citizen Kane of movies. It's top tier. Never has a monkey been so delightful! This romping classic frolics it's way into your heart and forever checks in to your mind. Be sure to leave a light on for it!

you're welcome

Eh, I feel like a dick so I am sorry for that

I just really, really, really loathe her writing. I won't back this up because frankly the debate isn't something I'm interested in having, no-one wants to read it, etc etc, but there's various reasons that make her drive me up the wall and doubt her sincerity and her ability to properly champion her cause. I also don't want to be cast as part of "that crowd" just for ragging on her, and also as she's a trans writer I feel like undermining her undermines all trans writers, because visibility sucks and people like to treat minorities with a blanket approach based on past experience, so for those reasons and more I'm reluctant to properly critique her

but I still mostly loathe her as a writer and a commentator more strongly so I got catty about it in lieu of just ignoring it and moving on with my life

pretty dumb

Another day, another locked thread on Giant Bomb.

When we lock the comments on a story, or lock a thread on the forums, then yes, we do lock any other comment threads about the same thing. We've seen it a million times where we lock a discussion thread that has gone off the rails; another one is opened up with the best of attentions, and the same people who forced the other one off topic come along and do the same thing again. We're being more proactive about it now because it has become a very consistent issue.

You can feel free to criticize content all you like, but after a thread has been locked it's best to bring it up with the editors directly.

And thus started the death of the GB forums. Le sigh. Why not y'know? Actually moderate the forums instead of just hitting the lock button. To me the lock button is like the final 'nuclear' option not the first. I guess at the moment they're a bit gun shy to the whole process so they don't want to deal with it but man, get some new people in to spread the process or something if the load of monitoring the forums is getting too much.

And what I've bolded equates to basically just spitting in the wind, no actual back and forth discussion if things turn sour, if whats being said isn't being received well and the topic turns to shit then you're on your own and not allowed to discuss it here. I really wonder what these new rules they're cooking up are going to be. I thought 'Don't be a jerk' was pretty black and white to moderate by but obviously not.

The Shantai quicklook is great...Not really because of the game but because it'S basically a 2 man podcast lol.

I think the issue is that they are scared or banning premium members.

I don't get this idea that every forum should be a place of free speech and happiness. If a thread is a breeding ground for people to spew vile. Then delete it.

Its not like it was a thread criticizing GB. It was filled with people insulting a guest in a very fundamental way.

At the moment though it just feels like 'I don't want to deal with this, *locked*.'

And where did the reopening a thread under a different name come from? :/

we do lock any other comment threads about the same thing
I thought you were talking about this.

I wouldn't worry too much, the reaction to the new hires and this weeks bombcast probably just made the mods a bit trigger happy. Give it a month or so and it'll cool down.

ruh roh, that Max Tempkin blog post just got a whole lot more attention. Kotaku wrote about it and was heavily critical of the post and it's language. Apparently he didn't apologise and made veiled legal threats. I think they read a different post to me.

I agree insofar as bringing up the legal stuff was dumb. No-one gives a shit about how he's protecting against possibly true, possibly false accusations. It's a bit too much "I'm OK guys!" in a situation where his wellbeing isn't under the spotlight.

Never understood the apology point because that implies he has something to apologise for. If he did it, fuck man, you can't apologise for that. If he didn't, he doesn't need to apologise! If I'm missing a trick here, someone let me know.

Hope they realize they're helping his case for libel.

Seriously. The fuck is this paragraph:

Like that time you started making out with someone and you weren't sure if you should take it further, but the other person was going along with it so maybe it's okay—and the next time you see each other everything is awkward and it dawns on you that maybe you read it all wrong. Or that time you found yourself doing something you weren't sure about with someone you genuinely liked—how you let it just slide, because hey, it was nobody's fault. Or that one time you were too scared to speak up and tell someone what you wanted, because you didn't want to be fussy and they're a totally nice person. Or that time you didn't grab a condom before having sex, because you'd ruin the moment.

If this isn't malicious insinuation, then I don't know what is.

Yeah. People are acting like there was a good answer. Like he should have said, "Yeah, maybe i went too far. Lets all have a discussion on what that means. I'm very sorry for what occurred. Lets start a dialog!"

As if that would have made people happy. It wouldn't have. People would call him the things they have been calling him all the same.

Again, this isn't to say he didn't do it. I wasn't there. But to act like there is a right answer when you are accused of something so awful....

So let me get this straight: Giant Bombcast had a woman guest talking about an LGBT gaming expo and people lost their shit in the comments?

Whenever there is a transgendered guest on giant bomb things go to shit. e.x: whenever Carolyn Petit from gamespot makes an appearance. Shameful

He spends too much time trying to defend himself—which I understand as an impulse, given the gravity of the situation—and not enough time contemplating the idea that he might've messed up.
Seriously? No matter if he did it or not, of course he is going to spend more time on defending himself and not contemplating publicly wether what he did was wrong.

This is just a weird thing to say

After reading that, I am disappointed that Max didn't seize the opportunity he had to open up a dialogue on the grey areas of consent. I hope the next person accused of rape learns from this.

I should have added a sarcasm indicator, sorry. I just honestly wanted to write out her thesis to see its absurdity.

Here's some irony - had Max not written that blog, and they reported the accusations instead, he could sue for that article. He would probably win in the US, he would definitely win in the UK (seeing as it was reposted on Kotaku UK, a UK entity, he could sue here).

The fact his blog has not at all been received the way he thought it would, I wonder if he regrets saying anything at all?

Do you remember when this thread was full of stupid stuff like which of the crew would you want as your dad?

Now I come in and I'm depressed for like a week.

After reading that, I am disappointed that Max didn't seize the opportunity he had to open up a dialogue on the grey areas of consent. I hope the next person accused of rape learns from this.

It's an unfortunate truth that apologizing or even admitting that something may have happened could potentially be used against a person in any criminal proceeding. I think any lawyer would advise against a person with an accusation hanging over their head opening up that discussion. It's something best left to others.

I was actually somewhat surprised that Max went as close to an apology as he did.

I'm listening to the podcast and don't really get it. It's good stuff. I had never heard of Samantha before this podcast and I'd love it if they had more guests like her on in the future, i.e. games people who aren't necessarily "part of the crew" (like Lang and Drake) but still get along with the crew and want to talk about cool stuff. I fully support a 3+1 or 4+1 format.
