I completely forgot about this. I really hope it does mean we are getting a new Zelda character and a new Metroid character. One new Metroid rep, one new Zelda rep, one or two new DK reps and I would be very happy. Sprinkle some Shulk on top and I will break into a Disney Princess-esque song and dance with all the little animals of the forest.

I wonder what new character would represent the Metroid series. The only thing I can think of are the characters introduced in Metroid Prime Hunters even though they didn't have too much attacks, at least they were playable. For some reason these guys get no mention whatsoever when the topic of a Metroid rep that's not Ridley comes up.

Probably because they're from a spinoff with a lukewarm reception. Though Sylux could be a good representative if they ever reappear.

Don't Sylux and Weavel get mentioned a lot after Dark Samus and Ridley? I know they're next on my list of Metroid characters.

Hunters and Other M have many characters but those are also the weakest games in the franchise, Metroid is about isolation, that's why people only remember about Samus and the bosses. Every other character would feel forced. Well, aside from those pets in Super Metroid :P

Man, that rumor hits so many things right. Playable bosses is such a cool concept and would fall under the "making more games to utilize the gamepad" statement Iwata's made earlier this year.

Also if it's true, Heath will get his Takamaru wish :P
yeah it somewhat feels like it combined aspects from many rumors but I overall like it.

Amazing. Cant wait for Lucina and Robin. Although it annoys me that Pacman is in the middle instead of Mario.
This seems like the most realistic take so far.

I think I'm gonna try and redo my ideal roster now.
Yeah I'd be very happy with this roster. Although a part of me would still wish for a new Zelda newcomer (its been since Melee since we've got a new Zelda newcomer. Even if Sakurai tries to count Toon Link.) and a new Metroid newcomer. I also think it'd be strange for Mewtwo to be a playable boss since he used to be on the roster. The only reason I see Sakurai not adding Mewtwo as a playable character is that there are too many pokemon on the roster. I hope Ganon as a boss isn't his solution to fixing Ganondorf though. Ganondorf desperately needs his own moveset. Maybe if Sakurai did something similar with Ganondorf that he did with Palutena.

It could be fun, but ask yourself: wouldn't it be more fun if those bosses were just playable characters?
Im a huge Ridley fan and have been wanting him to be playable for a long time. However ive started to realize if he was a playable character hed have to be pretty gimped his proportions are incredibly awkward. I thought about it and Ridley would not be able to be represented to his best as a playable character. As a playable boss we wouldnt have to worry about shrinking his proportions or if his moves are OP. I honestly think the boss solution would be great for Ridley. Although outside of Ridley and Master Hand, I dont like any of the other suggestions for playable bosses.

But they're from arguably the worst Metroid game next to Other M

Other M was both a shit game and a shit Metroid game.

Hunters was a bad Metroid game but a good game.

Also other bounty hunters have been my favourite addition to the Metroid franchise post-Super, with Sylux and Weavil being the best designed out of the bunch and both with unique abilities to add to the game.

Weavil can split up into the auto turret with the battlehammer and run around as the torso with the blade.

Sylux would basically be thunder trap raiden from MKX with his alt mode ability and he's a good rival for samus
and he would have been an important character if we ever got Metroid Prime 4 ;_;
.

1 axis vs. 3 allies?

...seems fair

Gotta get Mussolini in on the game.

The day Jigglypuff is announced is the day the more "emotional" Mewtwo fans go on suicide watch.

I want Mewtwo back, not because I care at all about the character, but because I want to see all the kids on Miiverse screaming at Sakurik for putting a Lucario clone in when he could have made Goku!!!!!!!

Why DLC when Snake can be a default character rep? :p

Obviously that's ideal, but if he doesn't make the initial roster, i'm willing to buy him at a high price.

He might be too polarizing for DLC. Some people really dont' want him back, which could hurt DLC sales.

Meh unless they decide to give them spinoffs or a sequel I'd rather them not in Smash. The only Metroid character I'd want playable outside of Ridley would be Dark Samus. Dark Samus could be amazing as a character she could float like Mewtwo, down B be her tentacle move, standard B be her cluster beam, her final smash could have her transform into Metroid Prime and be in the background of the stage as a stage hazard much like all Metroid stages, etc.

I dont think anyone realistically thinks Jigglypuff will be out or that it will be an option between Jigglypuff or Mewtwo. However a part of me still wished Jigglypuff will eventually get the boot so that more deserving pokemon characters get in the game versus jigglypuff who has been irrelevant for a long time now.

*all waifus

OR

As long as they bring Rollout back to its former glory Jiggs will never be irrelevant.
