The actual PSN download is just a shell/client that has to be launched and running in the foreground to do the real download.
(which means I can't start the real download here from work and have it ready later, so the PS4 standby feature is worthless)

haha, what garbage. Bungie's site doesn't even save your PSN sign in, so I click the PSN button to sign in that way, and PSN is down. Failure all around for everyone involved, including any of us who had faith that this wouldn't be incompetently done.

Indeed. Poorly handled by Bungie. They should have handed out codes a few days in advance, folks could download the bits at their leisure, and today on the appointed time every one could play without both Bungie.net and PSN slowing to a crawl.

As an EU guy nope, it just downloaded and then grabbed the rest in the background overnight (oddly not showing in my download list but I could see the activity via my router after it went into standby). Some folks here have screenshots of an installer that displays concept art so I have no idea if that has to be launched, in EU the predownload just sat there confusing the hell out of me

Having no probs on EU PSN. You don't even need to start the client, it just downloads in the background. Press Start -> Information on the Destiny Beta tile and the number in the download status should go up.

Keep hammering the PSN store until you get in without the error popping up.

Quickly go down to "Your Downloads" and Destiny Beta will be in there. Quickly press "X" on it and it'll bring you to a page where the "Download" button is highlighted.

Need to do this quickly before the error code for the PSN pops up again.

Seems most people who get that far get booted as soon as they confirm to download the Beta.

As I said earlier, it's like some sick metagame.

Got lucky and just mashed the 'X' Button on my DualShock. Downloading now.

Exactly what I did. I knew those fucking emails wouldnt go out. I got my codes off the site and left it there. Entered the code on the PSN website.

Be careful of mashing though. The path on the PS4 is Games> Ad for the beta > Click Download. I almost bought the digital ghost edition under spotlight.
