Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

Depending no how you define Mario reps it already did in Brawl (6 unique movesets for Pokemon vs 4 for Mario). If you include Yoshi, Wario, and DK as Mario characters then Mario will always win.

But on the character select screen Pokémon has never had more slots than Mario. Pokémon Trainer is one character. Even in the Brawl Dojo where Sheik and ZSS were counted separately, Pokémon Trainer was counted as one entry.

I feel like the ship has sailed as far as Mewtwo is concerned.

You do realize this

Came out last year, mewtwo was the first pokemon shown that revealed the existence of Mega Evolutions, he was a pokemon that could be caught in the newest game X and Y over a lot of other classic legendary pokemon. Mewtwo was also the final battle of Pokemon Origins an anime special that was released in Fall of 2013. Mewtwo is more relevant now then he was when he was added to Melee.

Yes, I do realize that, and no I don't think it makes a lick of a difference. IF there's a 5th pokemon, it's going to either be someone new, or Jigglypuff.

Sakurai counts it as 6 and really his opinion is gospel when it comes to Smash Bros. Same way Mii Fighters has only 1 slot on the website but Sakurai has stated they count as 3 fighters IE the same way Pokemon Trainer counted as 3 separate fighters.

That did happen, ... the crowd however went mild.

I had mentioned this before, mega mewtwo didn't exactly rumble anything. Mega everyone the fuck else, did however.

^ Right. Watch Digital Event in UK. It had subtitle that would claimed that Mii are counted as separate due to three move sets.

I don't think me and you were on the same gaming forum at the time....Newtwo definitely sparked some hype

Besides that's hardly relevant. His inclusion would have been decided on before they even revealed it.

...yes I agree, but Pokemon could very easily have a 6th rep in this version of Smash Bros especially if this game is likely to have 50ish characters in it. Sakurai was able to fit 6 unique movesets for Pokemon into Brawl and was apparently planning a 7th with Mewtwo which only got cut due to time and Sonic. Why is it so hard to imagine a game an ever larger roster can't have that many Pokemon characters?

This whole # of reps thing does make it odd if Zelda gets a newcomer. We're already at 5 presuming that Ganondorf is returning so any newcomers will give us 6 characters. That's more than Pokémon (presuming that Jigglypuff is the only unrevealed Pokémon) and Mario (excluding Yoshi and Wario due to their different franchise icons in Smash).

I think of all the realistic possible newcomers, I want Mewtwo more than any other.

Edit- same goes for if you consider him a veteran, now that Captain Falcon is confirmed.

eh I read a bunch of people saying their childhood was ruined. Also, I woudn't really put any neogaf reactions, epically involving pokemon, sonic, kh and myriad of other things to highly. Because the represent an extreme minoriety or more often than not way out of touch with whatever they are talking about. See neogaf/4chan/smashboards reacts to lucario vs how much lucario's much is worth how much he is used in game and how much shit he is in due to his popularity.

Mega Mewtwo didn't shake the most feathers, hell I would argue that the reason It shook any was because it was a mystery. When people that their favorite pokemon mght be able to do it too, the focus was on their pokemon rather than mewtwo. Espically charizard and lucario and stuff.

As far as it being decided, the pokemon peeps most of the time have a good idea on what is and what isn't going to be popular, when they are wrong they are quick to go with what the people want. That being considered, mewtwo could be in the game. My opinion? Nah bruh.

If Pokemon gets another newcomer Blaziken has to be the most likely candidate, he's by far the most popular and had Smash Bros not been a GC launch title and had come out a year or two later he would have for sure been in Melee.

PT was three characters, in Sakurai's eyes and most everyone else's. So Pokemon having 6 reps in Smash 4 would be the same as in Brawl. I see that being the case, with Jiggs and Mewtwo being the ones making it in. My only question would be if Mewtwo is treated as a newcomer by getting a video. I mean, it would be the only case of a previously cut character returning, so I imagine it'd be met with fanfare.

I'd like a human rep that actually takes part in battle. I know it goes against the whole Pokemon concept but it's not like the series is lacking for badasses who could hold their own at this point

Sakurai already included the most bad ass human in all of Pokemon (Red) in Brawl, and all he did was stand in the back ground and switch out pokemon.

The main series absolutely never features Pokemon attacking humans, with an exception in Pokemon B2W2.
The only human I could ever see being in, aside from Pokemon Trainer, would be N.

What about the Aura Guy from the Lucario Movie, or the pokemon rangers... or Sabrina from the Indigo League.

if mewtwo was of such demanding importance, wouldn't have been revealed by now?

I mean they haven't revealed Wario yet, or Ganondorf, or Meta Knight so I'm not sure what your point is there. Heck Jigglypuff hasn't been revealed yet so really your point makes no sense.

Besides it's not like Mewtwo was known before Melee's launch :P

Blaziken could conceivably be a Captain Falcon (or Mii Brawler) clone and it wouldn't feel out of place. Like Chrom, it just seems like a really uninteresting Smash Bros. character regardless of its popularity.

I still maintain that the previously-planned Plusle & Minun would be the best potential Ruby/Sapphire representative. They'd be a relatively simple addition (in that they'd use Pikachu as a base), but they'd also offer a unique gameplay mechanic by emulating Double Battles (back-and-forth fighting rather than Ice Climbers' simultaneous attacking). Their down special would probably be Helping Hand, which would power up the next Pokémon's attack.
