C'mon guys. SE rep should be the baby of both Square and Nintendo:

All this talk about an S-E rep has me feeling conflicted, but I would love to see a Moogle/Chocobo pair in the game!

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. That would be pretty great, a Moogle riding a Chocobo. Could make some really creative attacks with that. Still think it would be nice if it were a named Moogle & Chocobo.

I think Rocket would be interesting, but hard to develop a moveset for.

I've mentioned it before, but I feel like this post warrants mentioning it again.

I think the best representation for Final Fantasy would not be a singular named character, or a single generic job class like Black Mage.

The Final Fantasy series is all about customizing your characters to your liking. Even in games with singular characters, customizing them to learn/train certain abilities is a big aspect in most of the games - materia, GFs, magicites, you name it.

I believe the best representation would be either a species that crosses over several games (Moogle, Chocobo), or, now that we know custom movesets are possible, and a character can have multiple movesets (i.e. Mii), I believe the absolutely best representation of the series would be a character who uses the job system. It could be a human, or one of the aforementioned generic species. If it were a human, I would call it "Warrior of Light" (in homage to Dissidia's FF1 character).

The WoL would have access to at least 4 different classes (Black Mage, White Mage, Fighter/Knight and Ninja; additionally you could add Blackbelt/Monk, or any of the classes in subsequent games, if you wanted to), all of which have different movesets of course. I dunno if I would have them pick the moveset at the start of the game, or allow them to switch within the same match, though I think it would make sense to do the latter, since you can switch the items or job classes on the fly in games past FF1.
And if you do the latter, you could even implement the whole leveling aspect of the games - the more you use one specific class, the stronger the fighter gets with that in the match, but if you change classes, you start out weaker - i.e. you give power for the utility of having access to other abilities.

It would be amazing if done well. Like, maybe they could get different Jobs that affect their attacks, or have them be like dual character as well. There's so much they can do with them.

And all this talk is making me want to buy the Chocobo Dungeon Wii game and DS Card game. How's the Wii game, if anyone's played it? I remember the card game being really fun, if simple.

Geno isn't Nintendo's "baby", and neither is SMRPG. He's entirely Square's creation.

Plus, it would be a complete waste of resources and licenses to bring in a character from an almost 20 year old one-shot game, that isn't even properly acknowledged by Square or Nintendo in their subsequent crossovers. Geno has not appeared or mentioned in Mario Basketball or the Fortune Street games, although all of these feature both Mario and Square characters from Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, which, by the way, are the only 2 Square-enix series I ever see getting any sort of recognition in Smash Bros., if any of them do.

I would have hugged you for eternity if I had seen someone dressed up as Geno at a party. Not sure if that is encouraging or horrifying.

It was when I was like 7 or so. I don't even remember what the costume looked like...I think I used some curly ribbon for the hair. It was probably pretty horrible.

Wait, we're talking Squeenix reps and the first one mentioned wasn't Neku?

For shame...

While I loved TWEWY on the DS
mobile was shit like all mobile games
I'd sooner take Bravely characters, especially since Nintendo is the publisher in most of the world.

I would totally be cool if the people who make Guilty Gear and Blaz Blue got the rights to do a 2D fighting game using the Fire Emblem franchise. Nintendo seems pretty happy to let 3rd parties work on their franchises (Pokemon Conquest, Hyrule Warriors, SMT X FE) and that just seems like a match made in heaven. Or a Fire Emblem Musou

Honestly I just want more FE in everything, I'm so happy they got 4 characters in Smash

I just want a 2d fighter on Wii U. Injustice doesn't count for various reasons. I don't care if it's Arc System Works, a port of Skullgirls or Capcom. I would love to have a Street Fighter though.

A normal 2D fighter is all I'm missing from my Wii U local multiplayer collection. Kind of have the urge to pick up Alpha 2 for SNES VC. Anybody have impressions? Seems kind of slow.

Neku has the most "support" considering Sakurai pretty much copied the difficulty scale for Uprising and now Smash 3DS, and there's a pretty obvious Tin Pin Slammer mini-game shown during the E3 Trailer.

Man seeing Captain Falcon just reminds me of how disappointing Fox and Diddy's models are. Like them, Captain Falcon has basically the same design as Brawl, but his model is clearly completely new. Fox and Diddy look like they've just been flat out ported from Brawl and slightly touched up. Somehow not even Kirby looks as samey as they do.

Wasn't even thinking about all of that; now it's giving me false hope.

Plus, it's not like SE would give SSB4 problems like PSASBR; they explicitly said that they wanted to see the game's success first, and Smash already has shown that thrice over. Honestly, I'm hoping Neku, Bomberman, & Bayonetta all get in as 3rd Party DLC.

count the Kirby polygons!

Hmmmm I'd go with Kimahri for FF rep because he is super bad ass and can do pretty much everything.

Ahh Kimahri...He's useless. His only reason for existence is to get me ultima lol. Ironic that if it weren't for the 99999 damage cap, he would be the best character in the game with nova .

What I mean "baby" is a product of Nintendo-Square collab. How can Square make SMRPG if Nintendo didn't allow it and how would Geno be introduced if SMRPG wasn't created? :p

It does not really need to be a playable character, though I would love it to be. Even a trophy of sorts is fine. But of course, it's still up to Square to even allow it. And Sakurai is not shy of putting the usual obscure things from other franchises in Smash.

This is probably the single SE character I want.

The potential for a moveset is insane.

Oh god, too much.

I know there's no chance in hell but dammit Gaf why'd you implant this idea.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: There's a lot of characters that I'd like to see rep SE, but, if we were to be realistic, there's only one character they'd probably allow in the game.

I was waiting for it. I was waiting for it.

So I got a friend of mine to translate one of Sakurai's scans. Nothing really new.

This page is talking about how the ranking will work. I'm not exactly sure what it says (I'll ask some one) but from I understand that you will get a world ranking. So let's say your world ranking is 10,000 you have a higher score than 10,000 people in what ever game time you are 10,000 in. Instead of have a #1 spot they decided to show how many people you are ahead of because they feel it sucks knowing how far behind your are from number one. The next part is about two game modes. Enjoy mode and Gachi (Gachi means serious in Japanese) mode. Enjoy mode will have a lot of items and levels with a bunch of stuff going on (I assume) while Gachi mode will the a "flat"/"even" level where it's more skill focused(once again I assume).
