Now they just need to reskin Metal Gear Ray as Ridley

I have a question about SSBU.

I just bought a Wii-U and this will be the first Smash game I've ever owned.

I have a Gamecube controller.

Is the Gamecube controller actually better for Smash or do people just use it because that's what they are used to?

I wanna say half and half. Gcn is the best option for smash IMO.

A little of both. But you can play with any control setup and you'll be fine. Just don't use the Wiimote only setup.

i donno. I hated the Wii U Pro Controller during the demo. Just felt unnatural to me. I will say that the default configuration is terrible for sheilding/grabbing, imo.

In this exhibit, we see Zelda's Phantom Guardian dazzled by the stunning linework on Lucina's boots, which accentuate the sharp appearance of her legs as they cut through the air with the fury -- and grace -- of impressive fashion sense and immaculate fit. One can practically feel the grit beneath their fingertips as they trace the dust compacted into each boot's heel from the floor of the Coliseum.

Alternatively this is what I saw from the picture after realizing her boots look like sneakers:

A little of both. The game, at least since Melee, was built around the GameCube controller, similar to how other fighting games were built around fight sticks. That said, the pro controller, the Wiimote/nunchuck or even the gamepad would all work well with the game.

Got some hands-on time with the Wii U and 3DS version of the game today. Willing to answer any questions you all may have. Played a couple of four-player matches (won them all with Marth, fyi) and only used a Gamecube controller.

How was Mario, Mega Man, and Greninja? Did you try Pit as well?

I prefer the GameCube controller, but I've been using it since 2001 when Melee released.

Like others have said, you'll probably be fine with any of the controllers (maybe not Wiimote though, I'd personally skip that).

Oh and....amazing Boot on a pedestal post Neit.
Thanks. It took rigorous scientific discipline to pinpoint that Lucina's boots are in fact the source of all our hype. Even before they were revealed, their pending appearance was sending space-time ripples that subconsciously triggered our excitement.

Right-click, and saved.

I have to agree, but only because I went through a period where all I had was a Wii Remote to play with and had to do it this way. Up tilts are impossible and it'll teach your brain to tap up to jump, which I don't like.

I really want to know if they're shoes + boots, or all one piece.

I bet NateDrake had a chance to ask this at NOA today and totally dropped the ball.

hah, in the in game pics it looks a lot more realistic and not as tight around her leg, so it might be one piece but who knows. it's interesting to say the least.

You know what the best part about Lucina is? Since she is a one-off character receiving representation as a clone, she will be easy to exclude next time, too. :-)

Yuri and Vic are terrible ideas. Marth needs to sound, like, regal. Soft-spoken. You've heard him in Melee and Brawl already, they're either too dorky or too rough around the edges to work for Marth.

I think Joseph Gordon Levitt could work well as a Marth voice. Listen to his VO work in "The Wind Rises".

Of course, JGL would probably never bother with something like voicing one character out of fifty in a fighting game though.

Wow, is no song sacred and safe from the slam?

Have to admit, this is a hot beat, though

Love-making music

Boot-making music

They're so tight that if they're one piece, they might hitch up the shoes when the shin-guard cinches the calf muscles, I.E. leaping into the air hoists the shoes up with her.

I can't wait for those arguments when Smash 6 is coming out
In all seriousness, Sakurai rewrote the book on Fire Emblem expectations with this game. We've had three installments now with Fire Emblem characters, and we were all expecting the newcomer to default to the main lord, but NOPE -- instead we get TWO newcomers who were secondary to the main lord. (Yeah, Robin's the avatar character, but Chrom was the main man in Awakening)

lol you know what? I was going to mention that the boots reminded me of what some basketball players where but I thought I was reaching bit. Some players do use under-armor leg sleeves which are also tight around the calves/lower legs.

Thank fucking god for that too. Chrom was always the leak character that made me say "really?" I always assumed that Sakurai would find a way to set him apart from Marth and Ike but in the back of my mind, I seriously wondered how he would even go about doing that.

Regardless of how fans feel, Sakurai moved on from Roy, and the same thing will happen to Lucina.

Meanwhile, my waifu is Sakurai's waifu, so I have her guaranteed inclusion! Bwahahahaha!
Eh, who knows if Sakurai will even direct the next Smash, between four installments and his hand condition

I'm grateful we got Lucina at least once under The Master

And who knows, if fans love her enough, they might keep her onboard somehow

What characters would even be in the next Smash game after this to generate hype? I feel like you can only go down from Pac Man, Mega Man and Miis. After this, additions to the roster would start to feel like scraping the bottom of the barrel aside from maybe 3-4 characters. Assuming they aren't already in this game, Ridley, King K Rool and Mewtwo would be the only big ones I can think of.

Yeah, Chrom was easily the most boring of the 'leaked' and frequently requested characters. Robin was inspired.

Oh man, I wish you had made this observation when I made my boots appreciation post (linked for everyone's convenience), because you're spot-on -- her boots evoke the under-armor leg sleeves and the shoes look like high-end sneakers you'd see on some b-ball players, which really just speaks to that vigorous sense of athleticism her boots embody.

If Takamaru doesn't make the cut this game, I could see him as the retro pick next game.

Also, if we don't see them as DLC, you can expect Inklings (from Splatoon) and maybe even Henry (from Code Name: STEAM).

In all seriousness, now that the game is 1080p, it will be easy to port resources over next gen. Sakurai will guide Smash until he retires. This is his biggest baby. If he becames disabled, he will just be the creative director.

I had no idea you cared so much about the UI and menu design.
Hahaha.

I'm not seeing any of those doing much for hype levels. Especially compared to characters like Sonic and Mega Man.

And now that I think about it, there will be a pretty small pool of people who care about K Rool in another 6 years when the next game comes along, unless he gets brought back into the series. Sakurai has put in damn near every character that there is any sizable fanbase for. Or for those who do have a large fanbase, there's already another even bigger character from the same franchise. We're running almost exclusively on secondary characters after this as far as I can see.

Nintendo just has to keep making new IPs so there's more good characters to add.

Was it the episode where he gets acne

That scarred me
No, it was some episode where he needed to get a giant cork(?) to plug some random hole while at the same time he was doing his drivers test? It ended with him driving his flying car into a monster's stomach, and, true story, jettisoning out from the monster's anus with the plug in hand.

I can't believe anyone approved this. It's pure trash.
