Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

One reason I'm sure custom moves will not be banned is the 3DS version comes out so much earlier than the Wii U version. People will have unlocked everything on 3DS by the time the Wii U version is out and transfer their save data. Maybe even custom attributes will become standard at tournaments. Of course, individual custom moves and attributes may be banned.

Do people consider K. King rool "too big"?
I don't think K. Rool would be any bigger than Bowser. If anything, there's less disparity between DK and K. Rool in the Country games than there is between Mario and Bowser in the Mario games.

While I don't think K. Rool has much of a chance, I suppose it's worth nothing that Brawl had a K. Rool trophy and a sweet remix of his theme, so Sakurai appears to have at least a modicum of love for him.

I know Awakening is currently the most popular FE, but other than that is there a "definitive" game in the series that most fans look to as the best or most influential?

It's tough because the US didn't even get FE until the 7th game in the series. In japan, 3 and 4 are pretty heavily revered. Over here in the US opinions vary far too much for me to say that there's one definitive game. I'd say each game (save for Shadow Dragon) has its fans.

In terms of influential, I'd say 4 really modernized the series into much of what it later became.

I don't think custom attributes will ever become the standard personally.

We'd have to wait until the game comes out of course, but custom moves have a lot of debate surrounding them whereas everyone has reached the same conclusion that custom attributes should not be in.

Also custom attributes are definitely on a separate menu than the CSS so there's that.

SS fans don't count for anything.

This isn't really true, that's more of fans in the west hyping it up (too much).

Oh yeah, good point.

This is the only form I want to see K. Rool appear in for SSB4.
Mainly for the amazing music that'd come with such a stage...

Grassland Groove would actually be a really great stage. You could set it atop the snake platforms and add some of the totem platforms to either side.

I wonder if Tropical Freeze is too recent, though. On a side note, the Snomads would be great in Smash Run.

If we're going to get a DKCTF stage, Grassland Groove would be my top pick. Frozen DK Island would also be great, if only for the Snomad's Thene music.

Is FE4 the one with the genocide?

FE4 has some twisted shit, but I feel like genocide is actually pretty par for the course in FE. Heck, even PoR and RD allude to genocide, but it's in the past.

It's mainly remembered for the incest.

Well, that and (Major FE4 Spoilers)
Sigurd's army getting killed off one by one until Sigurd himself is captured and executed right in front of his wife that no longer remembers him.

RE: the screencap: It's a reference to the "now you have my attention" gif. It's the Game of Thrones effect -- in this case, the idea that a Nintendo title would feature such subject matter turns heads.

Why do people hate on Roy? Isnt his first game melee and not fire emblem?

Liking him for being melee character has nothing to do with game that came out like year or so later.

Smash influence should have been influence enough to make good game.Competence isn't something that can be given though.

Nah, there's much worse topics in here. Plus, it's good that there's FE discussion. This week was basically FE week with Lucina and Robin being announced.

FE fans are ecstatic.
Dude, I'm fucking ecstatic! I'm late to the FE party, but after picking up Awakening last year on a whim, it's now one of my favorite games ever. About to start playing the PoR/RD duo.

I still can't get over the reversal Sakurai pulled re: my expectations for Fire Emblem in SSB4. He subverted them in the absolute best way.

First, he redesigned Marth so that he is much more visually interesting.

Next, he brought back Ike -- something I was hopeful for but not completely certain would happen -- and he made him visually distinct, as well.

Then, he introduced the Coliseum, a truly grand stage befitting of FE's epic scale.

And finally, he eschewed the obvious pick of Chrom for Robin, a character who is far more interesting mechanically and visually.

He also brought along Lucina, who while a clone is just an all-around awesome character design.

And to top it all off, it was presented in the cutscene style of FEA. Just perfect!

Interested to see how you take those coming off of Awakening. While the basics of the gameplay are the same, they're very different beasts.

If you've got any questions, feel free to stop by the FE community thread.

Roy was the last of the FE lords that could be dreck, if not for some RNG spam. And the Sword of Seals had limited uses as well.

Just not a good unit.

Comepletely agree with all of these. Sakurai has done the Fire Emblem series some serious justice in this game.

So I've heard. I know I'll miss the marriage/partner mechanic, but everything I've seen so far looks really interesting. I'm trying to go into it with little expectation so I can judge it on its own merit.

I don't know what series you're a fan of, but let's use Pokemon as an example. Imagine Sakurai ignored what the community likes and picked Trubbish to represent your favorite series instead of Greninja.

Best part (even more spoilers)
His wife is brainwashed and is tricked into marrying her brother. That's where the incest comes in.
While I suppose it would be implied, if that's all they indicated (
marriage
), I think it's subtle enough that it's not in your face.

Mhm, and then if you play your cards right FE4 spoilers
IIRC You can have Sigurd and Deidra's son Cecile marry his half sister who is herself the daughter of incest between Deidra and her brother.

That would be amazing. Trubbish and Luvdisc would be my mains, easily.
