Sure, but I'd imagine their brawl model could even be used as a starting point for their new models. Although my dream scenario would be switching them to Blastoise and Venusaur. That would also be a reasonable explanation for why they weren't revealed alongside Charizard. That would come out to 7 pokemon without mewtwo or 8 pokemon with him. I think that's reasonable.

In comparison to Mario's 5 and Zelda's currently 4... I dunno man.

Infernape, Serperior, Blastoise (only because Greninja is already in)

I also have to say that while I don't like all the evolutions, I think the base form starters are all fantastic designs. Not a bad one in the bunch.

Greninja
Torterra
Blaziken

I already like Greninja a lot and think he's great for Smash. Torterra is my favorite starter so yeah. lol

I don't like Blaziken much, but the idea of having a Muay Thai fighter in Smash is just so appealing to me. Bonus points if he could throw out Tiger Shots.
I'm a little over Blaziken because of his over exposure, but he'd have potential for a cool play style. Interested to see him if they ever actually make Pokken Fighters.

All three Final evolution if Hoenn starters. Yes I'm bias as all hell.
Haha, they are an awesome trio. I love Swampert the most, though!

I think it's in the best interest for Nintendo that the Pokemon that are currently used as mascots and in the spotlight getting more exposure in Smash. Plus, of course, I would assume they want to keep some stuff for Pokken, and also not seem to have a significant portion of the roster be composed of Pokemon, and have more characters than their other big series (particularly Mario and Zelda).

I can see Pokkén being a definitive contributor, but for a slightly take on the reason you listed. In that case, The Pokémon Company gets to entirely run that show without having to worry about vying for attention from Nintendo's other brands, and can fit into whatever other strategies/tie-in's they have in store.

So, if that be the case? It would make all the more sense why the likes of Blaziken or perhaps even Mewtwo may miss the Smash Boat this time around. They still may get another chance in the form of Pokkén, and perhaps the TPC may actually prefer that.

Not counting Charizard or Greninja since they're in the game already. (although if they weren't I'd probably choose those two anyway)

I'd probably pick Serperior, Delphox, and Feraligatr. Serperior having no limbs would make it an interesting fighter, and I chose Delphox over the fire/fighting starters just because I think a fire / psychic character would make for a more interesting playstyle (especially if Mewtwo isn't back) than the alternatives. Feraligatr is just a personal favorite of mine since Totodile was my first Pokemon. (Got Silver first when I was younger, then went back and played Gen 1 with Yellow)

Chesnaught, Infernape, Empoleon

Chesnaught could be smash's first straight up grappler with most of his moves involving him throwing opponents, and his down special being a type of counter with Spiky Shield.

Infernape would be another monkey but with projectiles, and other fire related hi jinks.... or something... hush, I like the thing.

Empoleon would in my mind be a low friction high weight powerhouse who's easily combo'd, but packs a mean punch. Think Ganondorf living in Luigi's slippery world.
Haha, I forgot we had that conversation a while back, so you know I'm a Chestnaut supporter. He'd be a cool Bowser type character with more emphasis on grabs. Your Empoleon concept is really interesting; hard to get a hold of, but easy to damage once you do.

I'd choose Charizard, Greninja, and probably Serperior.

Torterra would be interesting too as a slow walking tank but Serperior would be really weird.

Probably old, but NWR has 3 new direct feed 3DS gameplay videos.

Arena Ferox, Battlefield and Golden Plains with great music and local fights.

Hitmonlee would be a good Sheik clone
I'd actually take Hitmonlee. Taek Won Do would be nuts.

Hitmonchan COULD be a Lil Mac clone and I wouldn't really care. Though if by chance we get another boxer I'd hope they use outboxing instead of Mike Tyson-styled infighting like fighting games typically do, but that's not something for Smash

I'm pretty into martial arts :V

This thread isn't even one week old and it's 133 pages. o_0

I expect the threads to go by faster as the rate of news increases going into the launch of the games.
If we were to keep one OT for both the games with no spoiler threads...we'd hit at least 15 by the time both versions were out, possibly closer to 20.

I think the most likely new Pokémon would be Sceptile. That would give us starters from gen 1, 3, and 6, which is nicely spread out, and a fire, water, and grass starter. Meganium, Torterra, and Serperior probably wouldn't make good fighters, and Sceptile had always been popular.

Honestly, I think Hawlucha would strike Sakurai as a more interesting pick

Have their been any reports on the quality of the online play for either version?

Well...Torterra would come very close to potentially being a cross between Squirtle and Ivysaur.

Chances of it being playable are close to zero though.

Based off my favorite final forms:

Water: Feraligatr
Grass: Sceptile
Fire: Infernape

Yea. They'd all be a ton of fun to fight with too. I'm pretty happy with what we have already though despite the loss of Squirtle and Ivysaur. I'd love to get a grass starter in there to balance it all out but whatever, it doesn't really matter that much to me if we don't.

Yassss! Chesnaught Nation Unite! I could imagine him having a ton of moves with armor to make his grabbing attacks viable against the faster cast. (Pokken hope still exists). Yeah, with Empoleon would be as much combo bait as Bowser in my mind, but he'd also be able to deal it right back at ya.

I doubt that they would include 2 Pokémon from gen 6, seeing as the game hadn't been released (or announced?) when they decided to make the final roster.

I don't think that Sceptile will be in this Smash, but it is the most likely Pokémon newcomer.

Does anyone know what Bowser's victory theme is? I was watching gameplay and I can't for the life of me figure out what it is a remix of. (although it could be an original composition for all I know)

I believe it's just the normal Mario victory theme with electric guitar. Like Meta-Knight's is to Kirby's.

What if Hawlucha had its design finished when Sakurai asked for a XY Pokemon?
Oh, I'm not saying Hawlucha would trump Greninja. I'm just saying that if Sakurai were to make a second Pokémon newcomer (unlikely), I think Hawlucha would have a better chance than Sceptile. And I say that as someone who actually likes Sceptile better!

I think Sakurai is more about fun ideas and mechanically interesting characters than "equal representation." I doubt he even thinks of Pokémon in terms of "Gens." He just goes for what's topical and what's interesting.

That extends to everything rather than just Pokemon I think. He's not extremely concerned with all of this series rep talk, though he does reach into Nintendo's history to see which franchises have characters he could make into interesting fighters.
