I doubt they'll re-record Falcon anytime soon since Horikawa has a hard time doing the voice now.

But I guess it shouldn't be too bad with just a few short clips.

Huh? What happened? Did he say this at a con or something?

My only voice related gripes are DK and Bowser using weird monster samples rather than voices consistent with their games. Was never a fan, and it doesn't seem that's changed this time around (at least in the demo version).

Yeah, I was excited to hear from people saying Bowser's voice is new and sounds like the current Mario games. Sad that it turned out to be not true. Is still possible it could be changed, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Bowser I'm indifferent to, but I'd easily take DK's Smash voice over his Mario Kart one.

Superman has been drinking one too many.

I really hope that at least Bowser is changed - his monster voice doesn't exactly fit his upright, more personable stance in SSB4.

DK and Diddy could probably live with their monkey noises and it'd be okay, though I'd still vastly prefer their official noises. Making DK sound like an actual ape is just... weird.

Speaking of that, how many stages do you expect in each version?
Well, Brawl had 31+10 retro stages, so... I would guess that, excluding retro stages/DLC, we'll see somewhere around 30 stages for the 3DS version and 40 stages on the Wii U version. Although that might be a little optimistic... it wouldn't be terribly surprising if the need to split development between the two versions meant that they each had less stages individually.

Worst case scenario, maybe 23ish 3DS and 30ish Wii U? Excluding retro stages, again. If they ended up needing to have a small number of stages I can see it being padded out by DLC later - stage DLC would be really easy, plus they could even just port stages over from previous Smash Bros. or the other version.

Balloon Fight will probably be incredibly painful to play on due to the lack of kills off the side. Although I suppose that people that like to do "arena" type custom stages will enjoy it, so it has that niche at least...

It's such a shame that Hanenbow was so badly designed to actually play on because I love nearly everything about it as a stage idea. Having an ambient stage that is provided music by the fighters is such a cool idea, and it was neat aesthetically.

I can't wait for New Pork City 2.0.
Palutena's Temple? Seriously, though, I hesitate to judge it at this juncture but that stage doesn't look like it could be any fun at all to actually play on. It's so ridiculously huge...

Hopefully each version has a good number of stages. I'd hate to think that there are fewer stages due to having to make stages for both versions. So far though I think the 3ds stages look rather boring while the Wii U ones seem much better.

on the plus side, no walkoffs!

lol

Expanding on this, someone posted this earlier: http://challengerapproaching.tumblr.com/post/92256335045/lets-explore-custom-moves

Note the special moves and what they are assigned to.

There are some more in the link.

The hell. That is so bizarre. Does that mean you can have more than 1 egg roll?

maybe i'll buy a cheap japanese 3ds xl or something and play early

I've been thinking the same! That 3ish week wait is going to be too long.

Palutena: Viridi and/or Medusa, the latter especially for hearing Cree Summer

I think one of those two could appear as clones, but not costumes. Viridi especially could be a clone, but never a costume, since she's significantly shorter than Palutena, so she'd need to have different stats.

Medusa could be a costume, but I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if Sakurai actually did that.

I have an aversion to any large stage. Its a Wii U only stage (as we know so far) right?

The Brawl voices were perfect for every Star Fox character IMO, especially Falco and his NY accent.

I was dinking around with some friends in Sound Test the other day; is it just us, or were some of Falco's Brawl lines auto-tuned? For example, his "Don't try me" and "Hands off my prey!" definitely sounded altered in some way.

Going back to music for Smash, I really want this to play either in a F-Zero stage or as Captain Falcon's victory scene.

It's lack-of-presence in Brawl was soulcrushing. Hopefully it gets in somehow; I know it's not meant for fighting, but if I can set literally every song in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 to Snoop Dogg's "Knocc 'Em Down," I would be more than happy to have that playing on Final Destination in SSB4.

Listening to Lacrodectus again, would "demakes" of any modern game music be good for Smash's soundtrack? Would be interesting seeing some of them get the "reverse" treatment most old tunes get for Smash.

Like I said, have it become the victory theme of the Cap. Having "CAPTAIN FALCON WILL ALWAYS PREVAIL!!" on the victory screen would be completely appropriate.

I thought it was an accent?
because it sounds sorta like "Hands off my bread!"

Decided to do a quick mock-up that follows that '52 characters, 12 playable boss characters' (I don't take it as gospel, I just like the overall idea behind it) rumor:
AKSjGI3.png

Andross and Bulblax might be pushing it (couldn't immediately think of a Pac-Man and Metal Gear boss), but I like the overall idea, especially as a sort of compromise for characters like Mewtwo and Ridley if they don't make it in as proper characters. If the game has bosses and they have a few set commands like they did in Brawl, I don't think it's too unbelievable there would be a playable aspect.

every time i rihmember the fact that Id (Purpose) is in the game (at least the 3DS) version I legitimately feel like crying + Lucina is in the game I'm so happy.

Why is it so many stars shine far away?
While there's only one that needs helping today

On Earth it's the very same tale:
We came from one well
A common life spring

Captain Falcon will always be there
Sending forces of darkeness away

When evil threatens your lunch
Falcon will be unleashing a Falcon Punch

Thank heavens he's on the right side
Or else there'd be no where to hide

Captain Falcon will always be found
Hot on the trail tracking them down

Give it up for the "Capitan"
Three cheers for the falcon

[?], F-Zero
Call me tracking hero
Fast attack, F-Zero
Cracker Jack, F-Zero
On the gates, F-Zero
Stylin' face, F-Zero
In the race, F-Zero
In first place, F-Zero
Falcon [?], F-Zero

Call me tracking hero

there is no crime in our history greater than the fact that the full, clean versions of f-zero gx cutscene songs will forever be locked away in the sega vaults

weren't even in the soundtrack release ;A;

Repostin' due to being on the bottom of the last page.

Also do we have any hints as to how SSB4's roster is going to be organised on the selection screen? In SSB64 it was by release date, in Melee it was still horizontal but a bit more all over the place and in Brawl it was vertical with some slightly obvious grouping (the space-type characters like the SF cast and Captain Olimar/Falcon in one column, etc.).

Since Sakurai always link the Ice Climbers with Balloon Fight (music in their level in Melee, the fish in the Brawl stage), I'd love if he gave them a costume where they're dressed like the Balloon Fighter.
