As for the video, I literally couldn't tell if it was satire or not. Could someone more familiar with the show/guy tell me?
Harsh title (I guess that's the name of the game in modern journalism, though). "Failure" is probably deserved (in terms of promises moreso than sales), "lying" is a stretch.
He's calling it like he sees it. The truth obviously might hurt depending on how you look at it. He makes the most salient points though.Wow... wow...
... wow.

I disagree on the bolded, personally.
As for the rest, you're right, it's a piece of kit, but let's be clear on this: There are hundreds of thousands of jobs connected to that piece of kit. If the Xbox One dies a quick death, those people could potentially be jobless, so let's not pretend human lives wouldn't be horribly impacted.
I'm not sure how I feel about this video. Jim usually makes good, valid points, but it seems like he's arguing that, unless Microsoft comes out and outright apologizes for everything, that we should not be happy that things have changed for the better with regards to the Xbox One.
We shouldn't be ever so thankful that microsoft decided to stop fucking us over. We are not in any way beholden to them (at least I am not) and therefore you don't get to dig yourself out of a hole by doing the bare fucking minimum.
Really you want the console to fail so quickly, I'm sorry I'd rather have all 3 living, for healthy competition in the console business.

What healthy competition? Nobody's competing.
So I should be buying a X1 to save jobs, not on the product's merits?
Seems to be a lot of hate for Xbox One.
At least M$ is changing its ways. They recognize what fans want, and they are changing accordingly. For that, I applaud them.
All I know is none of that shit happened and they have been going out of their way to make sure it is something people want. I am not going to hold some grudge like they caused me harm. The system has the most games I want to play, a controller I like better and more features that I'll use. That is all I care about. Not some race for first place system war.
But he explains it, what point are you not understanding? You can quote the parts and someone will help you out.I love my Xbox One. Probably the beat console I've ever owned.
Don't know what Jim is so hurt.

Yeah, except he's completely correct.
It's like people aren't even watching the vid.
Jim's problem is that MS is spinning it as being 'heroic' when they really just have to pander or the X1 wont be relevant.
I'm on the fence here now. I recognize MS made a lot of changes based on customer dis-satisfaction, so I commend them for that. I still feel they've been very sleazy since the X1 was announced, Spencer being the only one who at least resembles a human being.
No, it's not satire.
How it is not lying? Albert Penello literally PERSONALLY signed up for an account on NeoGAF, seemingly for the single purpose of lying and obfuscating about the Xbone in virtually every post. They lied literally constantly.
He isn't telling us anything we don't already know. But at least he is being completely honest. Maybe those select brand loyalist that are in denial will wise up?

LOL, so I should just sell my system even if it has more games I want to play? It seems to me the 'brand loyalists' are the ones who will not even give it the benefit of the doubt for what it has going for it. It has some great games, with even more on the way, a great controller and even some fantastic features that many people like to use. It's actually an awesome system, not the spawn of Satan that must be destroyed by the wrath of Sony.
You didn't watch the video, or you have NOT been following the Bone's announcement to commercial release span.

Harsh? What the fuck is 'harsh?' We as consumers HAVE to be harsh if you want any change to happen. Don't pussyfoot around it.
So true. But as we saw in a recent thread about preordering, that mindset is fully entrenched in the GAF community. There's very little to disagree with here, in terms of the events, but this is why making gaming purchases based products and services already in existence would save people from a lot of frustration and disappointment. Simply waiting until a platform has the features and games actually in place that let you justify your purchase is like a magical null-ray to protect you from overreaching marketing promises and rubbish.
Here's the thing: Approaching the hobby this way means your purchases don't have to be based on trust. Good software and platform support will be immediately rewarded. Half-baked, over (or under) ambitious products will only be rewarded when they've improved. Sadly, this is a novel idea in a business currently rooted in pre-ordering and pre-purchasing.
I love my Xbox One. Probably the beat console I've ever owned.
No, but you shouldn't be calling the system pointless and wishing for it to die. That's childish.
Seems to be a lot of hate for Xbox One.

They have constantly blamed the consumer for not being ready for their vision of a digital future.
I'm not entirely sure what Jim is propositioning as the more noble alternative, here. I mean, there's certainly valid reasons to criticise, but it's coming across more as grudge-bearing, and if I bore a grudge against every single company that made mistakes - and in many cases, more significantly lasting mistakes - that were detrimental to me in the past, I wouldn't have many games left to play!
Changed for the better? At least the entertainment ideas differentiated the system from the competition. Now it's just a weaker PS4. And judging by recent NPD results that isn't going to be enough.
Not shockingly, there are people here missing the point.
Yes, Microsoft (finally) started to do the right things with their console, but only after it became clear that each and every thing they did wrong was causing the console to completely tank. It wasn't out of the goodness of their heart, or because they believe that's how a console should be handled. In fact, they quietly seem to feel the opposite; that their original vision is still the best and that consumers either didn't understand it or didn't appreciate it. We (the consumers) are the bad guys here in their eyes.
The fact that they don't seem to have any genuine remorse or understanding of their own wrong-doings when it comes to the Xbox One means they're all the more likely to commit similar mistakes in the future.
It has arguably better exclusives and arguably a better controller. It's more competitive now, and a lot of the entertainment ideas are not going away.
And I understand that, but let's face it, the X1 was designed from the ground up to be a completely different machine. Now MS is desperately trying to re-focus it as a game machine first, but...it's still the same box, built to be some sort of all-in-one living room everything.
While I don't want the system to die, is it that hard to understand that the system is somewhat pointless now?
Kinect is now a fractured market. No one knows how Quantum Break will be now with the entertainment stuff out the window. Hell, no one even knows where the Halo show is going to air and on what.
Spencer can sit up there and wear gaming t-shirts and push the game narrative as much as he wants, but he's doing it because MS has to - they've got nothing left. That's not making a decision that's best for the consumer, it's trying their damndest to not lose their ass on this thing.

The only thing being proposed, is that if you dislike being lied to, don't support the company.
If you're cool with being lied to, then just go about your merry way.
What's more astonishing is that they ignored months and months of places like GAF and basically the whole market hearing the rumours of what they ended up presenting and saying "Wow don't do that in a games console... that will fail..." then ignoring that + coming in at a higher price tag than any pundit envisioned.
But not if you refuse to admit they were mistakes. So people and companies can never change?
That's a very narrow way to view the world.
I've made dumb decisions in the past that I would have never made nowdays.
You learn and grow from your mistakes.
