Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

Honestly, my ideal Rhythm Heaven character is someone whose design clearly reflects the fact that they're from a music game franchise, as I'd like to think their moveset will be rhythmic in some sense. Someone like Karate Joe or the Ringside Wrestler make for natural fighters, but the expectation for them, based on their design, would be that they fight in a pretty traditional style. If you ask me, even the Rhythm Monkey would kinda give the impression that they should fight like, well, a monkey, and have a moveset like Diddy Kong. I don't really know if there are any particularly prominent characters who are clearly associated with music in some sense, and because of that, I feel that a relatively blank slate character like Marshal works well enough.

At least that's just how I feel about it.

I really do believe the Chorus Kids are the best potential Rhythm Heaven reps. Just look at other nonconventional series in Smash Bros. with playable characters -- Villager's move set thoroughly represents Animal Crossing, and Wii Fit Trainer is very obviously based on Wii Fit. Not only are the Chorus Kids directly associated with music, but there are three of them, and that makes it easier to visually communicate the concept of rhythm through the timing of their consecutive attacks.

That section about equippable items is new though, right? I don't even remember that being a thing.

It was there. We were discussing about it, and my friends even banned equipment/gears from online matches. I don't know why but I thought it might make the game more fun.

Think about Ganondorf with lightweight speed. That would be so good :)

The best:

I would be so cool with her or Rhythm Girl. The Rhythm series has some really awesome designed female characters.

It's like every other day I'm seeing something that's old as hell for the first time. This game is going to be packed with content and options isn't it?

@_@

You can't use Mii Fighters when playing with Anyone? Why?

Too many people who'd play as Hitler or something?

It does, in lobbies. It's not silly to expect Smash to at least match that, imo.

Who knows. I mean, microphones are built in to 3DS and the gamepad, so it's very possible during the 'sandbag' waiting room. We'll see. If it's at all possible that voice chat affects in-game latency, he might not implement it while fighting. We'll see.

And some of the equipment have special abilities as well. Think about if they have something like "Quick Attack Recovery" or "Always Reflect Shield".

I just realized that there's no "Want to know more about Captain Falcon? Visit the official website for F-Zero!" at the bottom of Captain Falcon's character page. Even Ike's linked through to the Awakening page.

It's so depressing

checking the characters from first to last announced, Pikmin and Olimar are the first to get a link to it's game, none of the 7 previous have it and from there Dedede, Mii Fighters, Pacman and Captain Falcon don't have that link

Dedede does have one on the Japanese site that links to Triple Deluxe, since he was revealed the day it came out there.

I'm not expecting it to be in-match (Mario Kart doesn't do it in race, just in the lobby and voting screens), but it'd be a silly exclusion at this point.

Yeah.. but...

Yeah....

but..

I just want another F-Zero.

Bleh, having a whole seperate character for Dark ______ would make me feel cheated. While Dark Samus isn't as egregiously similar as Dark Link or Dark Pit, it would still be disappointing to me. I think these sorts of things are great ideas for alt costumes, but pretty weak for individual characters.
Dark Samus is Metroid Prime and is the trilogy's main villain. Her fighting style is completely different from Samus and she has a ton of unique abilities not seen in the Smash cast (invisibility, phazon corruption, making clones of herself). You could also give her some abilities from her original form, like creating Metroids.

There's a reason she was the second-most requested Metroid character after Ridley.

The Chorus Kids would accomplish that concept.

Dark Samus would work entirely fine as her own character. Definitely a distinct moveset there. For a series where clones are part of the roster, having her would definitely not be disappointing.

BUT, it ain't happening this round, so no use crying over spilled milk, I guess.

If Sakurai said that Miis would be difficult online because of the customisation and outfits or something along those lines, I'd at least respect that. Bullying just sounds like a made up excuse,

I see it as a PR nightmare waiting to happen. Some little kid cries to mom that some guy named hitler beat him up online. Mom doesn't understand, flips out, contacts the local news, etc.

Granted, a kid playing call of duty is subject to something much worse happening, but nintendo likes to maintain its family friendly image (and this isn't an M rated game) so the bad publicity could be much worse.

It may not have been Sakurai's decision at all; corporate could have insisted on it in order to preserve Nintendo's family-friendly image.

Also I think we can all agree that if Rhythm Tengoku music in in Smash it should be in Japanese.*

*Frog Hop is the one exception to this.

Yeah I could easily imagine her floating like Mewtwo does in Melee. She could use her tentacle attack that her assist trophy uses, her cluster phazon beam, creating clones, she was also capable of sudden bursts of high speed and quirky movements that could be incorporated into her moveset. Her final Smash could be her transforming into Metroid Prime and as per Smash tradition for Metroid bosses Metroid Prime could be in the background creating stage hazards like Phazon rising, tilting the stage, slashing across the stage like Kraid. Oh well its too late now but Dark Samus could easily have been an incredibly unique and fun character to use.

I know, just saying it might be confusing.

Someone could be like:
'Who the heck is robin, oh, click here to find out more! ok!
Hey, wait a minute, it says 'you,' not Robin!?
I'm super confused now!'

I didn't even realize the default name was Robin until people started suggesting him/her for Smash. When I started Awakening, I erased the default name and promptly forgot all about it.

That would NEVER fit on the 3ds screen

Multiple pages on the select screen would solve that, although I can't imagine this game actually having that many characters. Cool roster though.
