The Israeli ambassador to the US has said the IDF deserve the Nobel Peace Prize for "showing unimaginable restraint" ...

... you can't be serious.

that implies that the Israelis would like to wipe all the Palestinians off the map but are showing restraint (how nice of them).

the truth is, the isrealis would love to do that, but would finally lose US support. Best stick to their plan of making life miserable until all the muslims leave.

If, as their apologists would have us believe, the IDF is the most caring, sharing, loving and careful army in the known universe then why by their own figures they're killing far more civilians than Hamas and that's with the IDF's patented if they're over 16 and male they're a terrorist count.

As per the Guardian/Reuters

Israel says it has killed 183 militants, according to Reuters, which quotes a death toll in Gaza of at least 550 (although Palestinian officials say it is now over 600). Assuming the total is 550 and the rest are civilians, that means 67% of the victims were civilians.

When the death toll stood at 530 Palestinians, the UN said 72% were civilians.

Addressing Christian supporters, ambassador to the US says ‘Israeli soldiers are dying so that innocent Palestinians can live’
Well, that is one way to understand what is happening.
In his fiery speech, the Israeli ambassador also hailed the Kurds in Northern Iraq “for their decency and humanity,” and took a dig at Iran and Hezbollah. “Hamas in Gaza is the little evil. The ayatollah regime in Iran is the great evil,” he said. “I don’t mean to offend Hezbollah but they’re just the medium-size evil.”

Fuck off and let Iranian-US relations improve you warmonger.

Dermer was speaking at the Christians United for Israel Summit in Washington, D.C. Tuesday

Numerous eminent humanitarians from around the world, including Nobel Laureates and leading anti-racist Jewish and non-Jewish figures, have written an Open Letter protesting the horrendous violence by the state of Israel against its captive Palestinian population and concluding “We call on the UN and governments across the world to take immediate steps to implement a comprehensive and legally binding military embargo on Israel, similar to that imposed on South Africa during apartheid”
-Letter, “The arms trade and Israel’s attack on Gaza”, The Guardian, 19 July 2014.

edit: the last part of that sentence... yeah, I'm with you at face value but I try to understand where they are coming from; even if the message sounds like its coming out of this guy's ass.

it baffles me how no other country has been caught spying on the US more than isreal yet it is still the US 'biggest' ally and still receives billions of dollars. Isreal has spied more on the US than the soviet union ever has during the cold war.

could you please give me examples? i know of one incident

Where are the foreigners counted? I mean, there is at least the family that were german citizens. Are they just thrown in with the palestinians?

http://www.newsweek.com/israel-wont-stop-spying-us-249757 is a taste of how the US intelligence community thinks of Israel's US counter-intelligence activities

According to classified briefings on legislation that would lower visa restrictions on Israeli citizens, Jerusalem’s efforts to steal U.S. secrets under the cover of trade missions and joint defense technology contracts have “crossed red lines.”

Israel’s espionage activities in America are unrivaled and unseemly, counterspies have told members of the House Judiciary and Foreign Affairs committees, going far beyond activities by other close allies, such as Germany, France, the U.K. and Japan. A congressional staffer familiar with a briefing last January called the testimony “very sobering…alarming…even terrifying.” Another staffer called it “damaging.”

The Jewish state’s primary target: America’s industrial and technical secrets.

“No other country close to the United States continues to cross the line on espionage like the Israelis do,” said a former congressional staffer who attended another classified briefing in late 2013, one of several in recent months given by officials from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the State Department, the FBI and the National Counterintelligence Directorate.

Aside from the fact that you seem to be perfectly happy with the US supporting religious extremists; one of the strongest allies?

Israeli government actions are doing nothing but creating problems for US international diplomacy and endangering the lives of US citizens.

What an ally.

Really? That's all you got? Every country is motivated to look after its self-interests; and given Israel's particular situation (fighting for survival, as noted in one of the articles you linked, actually).

How about being one of the only allies to knowingly attack the US military? Been caught more than once selling United States secrets and military technology to the Chinese?

Or knowingly and deliberately murdering UN observers?

One that still teaches in University and is invited onto radio talk shows to express his abhorrent views.

The teaching part is extremely worrying as he's no doubt passing these views onto his students.

And we have people like Dennis Prager teaching at University too. His opinion is sought after as a controversial right wing, not some intellectual illuminary.

You probably missed the following ....

I figured you might only address that; and the other two? In conjunction with a massive spying operation against the United States? At what point does any of this stop becoming excusable for an ~ally~?

that seems to happen a lot with israel doesn't it. Didn't know he was a journalist oops, didn't know he was a civilian oops, didnt know that kid had a paper in his hand oops, didnt know that big ship is American oops.

That it does.

Go to the page and scroll down to the bottom and start comparing the sources that say the attack was a mistake with sources saying that the attack was deliberate.

Just read this in Aljazeera's FB:

"We are deeply concerned about the consequences of ‪Israel‬'s appropriate and legitimate effort to defend itself," Kerry said in Cairo on as he met United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon..."

Lmao Kerry is such a hypocrite. The fact that a high state American officer can get away with saying something like this without any political backfire is beyond me. I see a lot of the American population being fed up with the Israel-Palestine situation and yet politicians act as if 99% of the American public were siding unconditionally with Israel and agreeing with everything it does without questioning.

I guess Israel is shaken by the backlash they are experiencing this time around.
Social media and it's immediacy have really turned the standard media cycle they are used to on it's head. The thousands of photos/ 1st hand accounts/ videos that are unfiltered and can reach millions immediately have made things very difficult for for the Isreali propaganda machine.

Can someone tweet them back saying cement is banned by the blockade in Gaza?

They're letting some in but the problem is the cement Israel gave to Gaza, Hamas took it to use for construction of tunnels. So they're hesitant about bringing in cement because they don't want to fund the tunnels

That is a hilarious statement at the same time though. How can you be deeply concerned about an appropriate response? Just fucking call them out on being completely out of hand and get them to stop. This tap-dancing around the issue in order to salvage political will in disgusting.

U think the amount they give can produce all these tunnel ?

I feel sick. I am trying to talk to people, I am sending mail to my local government, and I still am not doing anywhere near enough. Is there any way to donate money to medical aid in Gaza?

This is a learning experience. I fully expect the next attack will be preceded by a shut-down of mobile and internet infrastructure to stop people from uploading videos and photos.
Do they have separate towers in Gaza? They do use mobiles to send the notifications and it would be overtly criminal to not do that, at this point.

Every day I've been hoping something breaks on the investigation of the three Israeli teens that were hitchhiking near Hebron.
On June 12, three Israeli teenagers, Eyal Yifrach, Gilad Shaar and Naftali Frankel, were abducted while hitchhiking in the West Bank. Their bodies were not found until nearly three weeks later, buried in a shallow grave in a field to the West of Hebron. On July 2, Mohammed Abu Khdeir, a 16-year-old Palestinian, disappeared. Israeli police believe his killing was revenge for the murder of the three Israeli teenagers, and the suspects in the case have admitted the crime, saying they poured gasoline on Mohammed and burned him alive. This is the latest development in the grim cycle of violence and retribution that routinely takes place in a land Christians, Jews and Muslims all call “holy.”

Shortly after these killings, it was reported that the family of one of the murdered Israelis, Naftali Frankel, and the family of the murdered Palestinian were drawing comfort from an unexpected source: each other. Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat later commented, “The life of an Arab is equally precious to that of a Jew. Blood is blood, and murder is murder, whether that murder is Jewish or Arab.”

There is nothing recent on this story, its been trumped by Protective Edge -a thing allowed (arguably) because of these killings.

I've said this before, Israelis are taught from birth to hate Palestinians and that they are superior.

the irony is that nazi germany had similar practices.
