Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

Since a lot of you looks like from a much later timezone, I dunno if I can play a lot of matches with SmashGAF. Looking forward to playing with some of you guys... :)
Don't underestimate the power of Smash man. If it must be I'm pretty much available 24hrs from Friday afternoon to saturday afternoon or (probably more often) saturday morning to sunday morning XD

You trust GAF to accurately rate themselves? :P
Easy way around this: Kid Icarus Uprising Qualifiers. Just take the average difficulty someone has beaten KIU with as the value for that score. I wouldn't believe anyone with an average difficulty of under 7 in Kid Icarus Uprising that he'd be a pro in SSB :P

I jest, or...do I?

wait where's the spreadsheet?

time to add some people
Here's the original post.

Hey guys, as Heath mentioned earlier, I'll be in charge of the NeoGAF Friend Code / NNID lists for the 3DS and Wii U versions of the game. With the 3DS version approaching, now is as good a time as any to start making the list!

Now, even though this is going to take way longer on my part, I'm just going to keep the document private and add everyone's info myself (hence, the early start time). The reasoning for this is to avoid vandalism from outside sources and to keep the document organized. I was in charge of the friend's list for the Mario Kart 8 OT and, with hundreds of people adding their info at once, it got kind of crazy and, of course, someone eventually tampered with the document. With all that in mind, you guys can just PM your info and I'll add it to the document myself. I'll order everyone alphabetically by your NeoGAF username, so there's no disadvantage to sending me your stuff later.

Before you send me you info though, consider this. If you don't think you're going to be playing all that much or only with a few of the people you're friendlier with in this thread, I wouldn't request to put your info on here. We're going to have hundreds of people on here as it is and, with unfortunate limiting of how many friends you can have on both 3DS and Wii U, we really only want people who think they're going to be online somewhat often and are going to play with a lot of people in this thread. If there's only 3-4 people you want to play with in this thread, I'd just PM them and get their info separately.

So, here's the link for the Google Doc. I'm sure Heath will add it to the OP in the next thread, as we're approaching that pretty quickly. I already put my info in so you can see an example. If you want to be on the list, just PM me the following info:

NeoGAF Username (obviously, I'll see that right way)
Friend Code
User Nickname (this is whatever your Mii's name is that is attached to the account)
Time Zone

If you want to leave out the time zone for privacy reason, that's totally fine. You can also leave out the User Nickname, but it gets really confusing to remember who's who as games tend to only show the nickname in game, so it's really helpful if you share that as well. I'll repost this every few pages to make sure every sees. Also, I know this is obvious, but there's going to be a lot of you sending your info in, so don't worry if you're not put on the list immediately. I'll try and do as many as I can each day, but I do have a real life to worry about as well. :P

So, without further ado, let's get this started!

I sort of played around with that idea and, now that I'm remembering how silly the friend code system is, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to add something. Maybe not a numbered making but...what would you guys think of just an additional section that you can put in a few words to describe your play style? Something like "1v1 / no items preferable, but I'll play whatever" or "FFA, items on only." I asked a few people before posting the doc and got mixed suggestions, but with the way friend codes work, it might not be a bad idea.

This is just for the 3DS.

Yeah, maybe not a number rating system but I think specifying stuff like 1v1 to free-for-all/no items to items might help in the long run just so it'll be easier to find others with the same preference.

I love Toon Link's expression. Seems like it'd make a good avatar.

I hope there is a way to use the different ages for Robin. I really hate the little boy look. I used the grizzled old Veteran for my playthrough of Awakening. It just made more sense for the character.

I'd guess at the very least there'll be some random different skins with other hair/face combinations like what the villager got. Don't know if they'd include the older and younger faces though, considering how in Awakening they came alongside different body sizes. They could just ignore that though.

I imagine once afternoon rolls around where you live, more people in your timezone will start submitting their info.

That sounds good. So, I'm just making a column called play style and I'll give people 10-15 words to sum up how they smash. Does that seem like a good idea?

"i'm a 10 i'm really good. been playing smash brawl since i was a baby and can beat 3 level 9's in team battle"

Yeah, that sounds cool to have people just describe themselves. People could also say what time of day they prefer to play, etc. Just things of convenience so everyone has an easier time adding each other.

Heh I may use vacation or a sick day when it drops

It comes out on one of THE Jewish holidays. I go to a catholic university so they're always down with the 6 Jewish kids skipping class whenever haha. In terms of stuff the rest of the month, the game is coming out at a pretty convenient time for me ^_^

I was quite suprised, too. Seems like smashbros.com directly uploaded a clean daily image today. Or is the daily on smashbros.com always clean? Idk, usually I only see the daily pic here or on reddit XD
It's almost always clean. There have been brief stints where even daily.jpg/daily-en.jpg have had the watermark as well, but the bulk of them lack it.

And since that URL is ephemeral, and the watermark-less images could be lost to the ether while the watermarked ones stay up on Miiverse for significantly longer, I've made a habit of archiving each and every one of them. Just... not putting them in any folder, heh.

Cool, it's on there! I'll add it to the instructions next time I repost the initial instructions.

Bit forgetful on how friend codes work. When it says "Enter the name of the person..." I have to put in the User Nickname right?

When they're officially added it will add their real name, so you don't have to worry about getting that part correct.

Any name will work, and it will be corrected when they add you.

You can put in anything.

It corrects itself when they add you.

EDIT: Beaten. :P

When they're officially added it will add their real name, so you don't have to worry about getting that part correct.

It's so silly. As restricted as Wii U online cab be, it feels light years ahead of this stuff.
Thanks I don't think I've really done this since Brawl.

I gotta save time for smash u. If that comes out on nov 21st I may use that day and the following week for thanksgiving vacation
I'll probably take time off for neither. Normally I would... but the 3DS feels like a lesser version, and by the time the Wii U game comes out, most of the stuff about it will be old news. Having two versions lessens the excitement all around for me.

Still can't wait to get my hands on the games though. :D

And I did at least use some days for E3. I'll probably use some for Christmas, and the rest for... I have no idea lol. Maybe I will use one for Smash.

Good point. I think I'm taking off 2 days for Smash 3DS and 3 for Smash U. Haha, I need to start saving up money!

Yeah I sold some figures earlier this year that is now my smash funds. Plus I told the wife it's a Christmas gift for me and our daughter lol.

Oh can you put me down for everything on the spreadsheet? And update my id account name for my linked ids?
