Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

Yeah I skipped all the nonsense about why Daisy should be in and just read the stuff about her moveset.

You missed some great stuff!

"Daisy established prominence and uniqueness over Peach the moment she coined the phrase, "Hi I'm Daisy!"

And whenever Daisy's not on screen, all the other characters should be asking, "Where's Daisy?"

So reading these two posts in the Starfox stage thread, how many others did not know about this? You can destroy the lasers on the Great Fox in Corneria in Melee and Brawl.

I remember destroying it many times whenever someone was down even if it meant losing a stock lol.

I remember reading about this years ago but never tried it myself.

In case you didn't see it, Tom McShea of Gamestop recently played a build of Smash Wii U and gave people 5 reasons why more of the 'same' is good.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0SvjuVbwLU&list=UUbu2SsF-Or3Rsn3NxqODImw

I'll list them for you.

1. Six years is a long time. (Referring to the length of release between Brawl and Smash 4).

2. There's nothing like it. (Playstations All Stars, Teenage Mutant Smash Up, Onimusha Brawlers are poor copies.) Also an argument against changing the formula too much.

3. Balance Perfection. (This one is the most lol.) He claims that Smash 4 is built for people who love balance, specifically saying that Nintendo is making this game for the Fighting Game Community. Obviously, the FGC, and specifically the Melee community would disagree at the moment. =P

4. The wrath of the scorned. Talking about how Brawl was bad, and this is Nintendo's opportunity to fix it.

5. Consumer demand. People like Smash for what it is. AKA, not making a Power Stone clone for the next Smash.

And I just realized after typing all of that, there is a Gamespot article that he also wrote on the subject. Doh. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/five-reasons-super-smash-bros-doesnt-need-to-chang/1100-6421185/

Yuck, I just noticed Donkey Kong's nasty thumb in that otherwise awesome cover art. That's the best Smash 4 art of DK but Sakurai approves of that thumb...

Wow I think this is my first real complaint about the game! I'm in for treat!

First time I heard about it. Awesome sauce.

I'll try that one when I get back home lol.

But if you destroy it, you can't stand on it anymore and that's half the fun.

Just stumbled across this guy's mock-up for Daisy as a Peach semi-clone, which, despite being entirely too long, is still an interesting read.

Michaellol? Oh no...

Before I joined GAF, I'm ashamed to admit, I went to GameFAQs to discuss Smash/game stuff. Michaellol was a user who posted at least 2 topics about Daisy a day, often about her and her sports outfit. As cool as it'd be to have Daisy in SSB4 in my opinion, these topics turned into a meme there. I thought I was done with my GameFAQs days after I got a GAF account, but it seems the past has come back for me...

He had cool ideas in making her spin-off themed, though. Just presented in an eerily-obsessed manner.

I wouldn't say Rosalina's 3D World appearance influenced the decision to put her in Smash at all. I think what got her in the game was a combination of her prominent role in SMG, in addition to her relationship with the Lumas which inspired a unique fighter. People probably just saw a connection when there wasn't one given that she was revealed to be playable in 3D World, MK8, and Smash in a relatively small time frame. Heck, we haven't even seen anything 3D World related make it into Smash yet so at this point I'm just going to guess that Sakurai didn't even know about it during early development so it didn't factor into his decisions. The same seems to go true with every Nintendo game released after 2012 with the exception of Pokemon X and Y.

Wait WHAT?! I never knew that, how do you even destroy it?

This track won't ever get in, but a fan can dream :,(

There's so much untapped potential from this series

I knew it was possible, but I don't think I ever actually got it to work. The lasers always blast me off the second I land on them.

Ah yes, the iconic "Hi I'm Daisy!" It changed video games forever.

Okay guys, who are the top three heaviest characters in Melee?

  1. Bowser
  2. Donkey Kong
  3. --Samus---

And no, that filthy PAL garbage doesn't count. >:-(

Agreed.
Which design would everyone want though? Personally, I'd go with the way it looks in World.

Absolutely love the colors, and how it looks super elegant and huge compared to other entries in the series.

I want his neon castle. I'd post a pic weren't I on mobile

Again, though, cool ideas. Just presented in an eerily-obsessed way. I want Daisy in over any other non-confirmed Mario character, even Toad.

I love the idea that this guy's just been roaming the internet screaming about Daisy for a year. But I agree, I actually like the moveset he proposes. Having Toadette stay out for less time but dealing more damage is a good idea, as is making Daisy generally faster and stronger but weaker in the air.

I always associated Yoshi for being light thanks to Mario Kart, so it always weirded me out that he's so heavy in Smash.

Heavier than Ike, even. Jesus.

Man if anybody ends up being god tier in this game I hope it's like Rosalina so at least we can just watch crazy Luma combos all day

Well that will never stick in my mind.

I just realized the whole Peach, Daisy, Rosalina thing correlates with the three iconic Mario power-ups; Mushroom, Flower, and Star.

Since Peach rules over Mushroom subjects (Toads) and Rosalina rules over Star subjects (Lumas), then does Daisy have a whole kingdom of flower people? Maybe Delfino Island is part of Sarasaland? I'm thinking about this way too much, thanks gin and tonic.

Hmm.. never thought of it like that before. I like this idea.

It shocks me that people didn't notice this! I did it all the time, even if it was very risky.

Mario has the deepest lore.

That's actually pretty insightful. It almost makes Daisy a worthwhile character.

I wouldn't mind a fully fledged Daisy alt for Peach. Maybe a clone version with different attributes, but I'm not that big of a fan of those. As long as we get unique characters (which we are!) I guess it's fine though.
