Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

K.Rool: Kremlings in SR. Considering how Retro doesn't care for them, this means Sakurai himself added them for a reason. (Could just be Nostalgia tho of course,)
Ridley: Already obvious he's playable. Dat shadow lol. (Its totally going to be other m Ridley as the ultimate rroll tho.)
Sceptile: As already mentioned: Grass Starter to round out the trio, ORAS advertising, and atleast it adds abit more variety than having everything be from the same gen.
Bandana Dee: Sakurai Bias.

Not one of these has strong evidence for playablity.

No way K. Rool is getting in before Dixie though imho

I don't see why not, he brings a bit more to the DK cast of smash characters than dixie would both from a visual standpoint and from a gameplay perspective.

I dunno... We already have two iconic protagonists from the DK series but we're still missing a villain. I don't know if Sakurai agrees but I personally think villains are a great way to round out a cast.

I agree. Especially considering Smash has had what, 5 playable antagonists? (Not counting Meta-Knight)

Why would Chorus Kids be Smash Run enemies? Sneaky Spirit make sense since you're supposed to get rid of them in the minigame they appear in, but you PLAY as a Chorus Kid in their own minigame(s).

AFAIK, all Smash Run enemies known have been enemies in the game they appear in. The Pokemon are the exception but I guess they count since wild Pokemon are technically enemies?

What about Bandanna Dee would be boring? He'd be the only Kirby character without a floaty multi-jump and he'd be Smash's first spear wielder.

It's not outside the realm of possibility. Dedede's side special isn't a waddle dee anymore and we don't know if his final smash is the same. We originally thought it was balance, but it could be more than that.

Also what's odd about this leak is that it sort of lines up with an earlier leak. Remember the one showing the layout of the character select screen? That also said Bandanna Dee would make an appearance, not as playable, but in Dixie's trailer with Metaknight. Incredibly similar to this leak, even going as far to say the BD appearance was strange as he wasn't playable. I don't remember if anyone disproved that one, but it's so similar to this one.

I may be inclined to believe K. Rool, Ridley, and Mewtwo being playable bosses, but not fighters. I can see it being the 5 player mode. Although more likely than not, the rumor is pure BS. However, I can believe the idea.

To be fair there is zero evidence for Shulk to be playable if we ignore the gematsu leak. No hints of a xenoblade stage, item, enemy in smash run, etc.

You could argue that Monolith Soft's tweets count as evidence, but I'll just chalk your point up as a good one.

Mewtwo may very well be playable, but yeah, I doubt K. Rool will be playable this time, and I'm confident that Ridley won't, outside of some "play as a boss" mode.

So since we've got VERY PERTINENT Kirby characters popping up in leak discussions, I'd like to take this time to bring up HAL's little Smash-like, Kirby Fighters. Specifically the standalone update released today, Kirby Fighters Z. It's not true Smash (since its got life bars and no ring out mechanics), but it plays very much like it thanks to Smash taking a lot of its gameplay and design ideas from Kirby Super Star.

But anyway. Kirby fighting game with 12 unique characters, costumes, bosses and a whole slew of creative stages. Might be a bit of comfort to those of us still waiting patiently for a new Kirby stage.

Bandana Dee would be, I think, my first honest '...really?' pick if true. Not that I have any stock in the leak given the outrageous shit it was spouting, but it's as good a reason as any to hope it's not true. No offense to whoever likes him. Just think he's a boring design and not an especially creative pick if you had to add another Kirby character anyways.

NIKKI AND eSHOP BAG CONFIRMED SONS!

No, but seriously, nice to see that Nikki lives.
That art-style's really cute.

All of the characters make sense except for Chorus Kids exclusion. Why would RH get two enemies in SR if theres no playable character? Weird.
Yeah, I am thinking we are getting a Rhythm Heaven character. For all we know, the starting list may have been "Pokémon from X/Y, Main Character from Awakening" and etc. and the leaker assumed Chrom would be the character when they went with Robin/Luc instead. I think the leaker saw the list of characters at the start and had no clue about anything else during development. That is why the deviations. I still have faith that we are getting a Rhythm Heaven character because the Sneaky Sneaks being in Smash run point to it like the Polar Bears for Ice Climbers.

Playable stages bosses is such a dumb idea.

fuck that shit.
It is probably a game mode exclusive for the Wii U. I doubt it will be in normal fights.

I'm struggling to think of another suitable Kirby character aside from maybe Galacta Knight. They could make a moveset for Magalor or Taranza out of whole cloth maybe.

If nothing else Dee would be our very first spear user.

I could easily see bandana dee getting in as a character. Getting his own video... not as much. I could see him getting intro'd in someone else's video though.

Metaknight and Shulk fighting and then bandana dee popping out of nowhere to interrupt the fight sounds right up Sakurai's alley.

Holy Crap, I go camping for 2 days and have over 80 pages to catch up on......

Anyone want to fill me in on anything I missed since Monday?

- Some sort of Great Fox stage.
- Wily's Castle confirmed for 3DS, too.
- Smashboards is still tying themselves up in knots over an obviously fake leak.
- Cloneception with Lucina.

You didn't miss much, really.

Why? I think it's great for little kids or people who aren't that good at smash, yet still want to be involved in the game somehow. As long as it's a separate mode.

I can't imagine it being that fun. And how would you even play stuff like Yellow Devil?

I don't imagine that you'd control them like you'd control a character, but rather big buttons would pop up on the gamepad that would let you activate abilities or target them as specific players.

Something like how bowser plays in mario party 10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b89S_WFvbNk

In fact, the bowser minigames aren't even a part of the main game.

I've seen Adeleine pitched around these parts before and I think she'd work. I think there's a lot of mileage you could get out of the magic painter angle. Although I don't think Adeleine has ever been in any game other than 64, so she's got that going against her.

Although if that Triple Deluxe gameplay can be believed, I can't say Bandana Dee being the first spear-wielder is something I can be particularly enthusiastic about!

Bandana Dee is the true hero of RTDL.

He should at least appear as an assist trophy since Waddle Dee Toss is gone. I guess there is the final smash which is most likely the same.

OT: Are some avatars broken?

Not sure if it has been mentioned before but the final Boss from Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze would be an epic Smash stage.

Make the stage hazzards less common, add a few more platforms and we're set.
Idk I feel there are a lot better options that would be better representation for Tropical Freeze. Or the DKCR levels in general. A Sunset Beach level, a Busted Bayou inspired level, a Beach Tsunami level, a Frozen Jungle, an Cliffside Slide inspired level, A savanna level with stage hazards like fire and twisters.
Playable stages bosses is such a dumb idea.

fuck that shit.
Care to elaborate? I think thatd be a pretty fun side mode.

Going by the rumors, you have to have a Gamepad to use it, so I bet it is tapping the screen. You can tap the attacks and characters to aim at them. It is like "Bowser Mode" in MP10, but for Smash.

Does the Kirby series really need another character though? You've already got the main character and antagonists for the series in.

DK doesn't have any antagonists, Metroid doesn't have any antagonists, FE is apparently a main Nintendo franchise now and that doesn't have any antagonists either but there's so many games and playable characters that it would be a long time before they got round to that unfortunately.

If Sakurai knew what Retro was doing with Tropical Freeze I have no doubt that that particular game would have been influential on Smash. We haven't seen anything from TF yet though, since everything is mostly inspired from DKC Returns and Rare's DKC. Cranky didn't really make a strong case for a playable character until TF either, so his appearance in DKC Returns probably didn't matter for much.

So if a DKC character was going to be included, I'd guess it would pull mainly from the Rare DKC games at which point it is a toss in the air. If Sakurai's been holding out on us and he was aware of TF though... you can't really deny that Dixie makes the strongest case out of all of them.

The main issue with Kirby reps is that there's only about 5 recurring characters, which makes most Kirby picks very hard to future-proof. Outside of the core trio, the most games anyone has appeared in is 3.

And as far as Triple-Deluxe goes, Modern Kirby Team =/= Sakurai+Namco.

Hypothetically speaking. I'm skeptical that Kirby will get a 4th rep right after getting 2 in the last game.

Dan is an easy pick just because he has a moveset built in and is a recurring Kirby character now, for whatever reason. He's not much of a character, but there aren't many of those in Kirby anyway.

Other than that the only other recurring, non-boss character that isn't already in Smash is Adeleine. And that'd be cool, but she's even less important than Dan is.

Apparently, she also appeared as "Ado" in Kirby's Dream Land 3.

Yep. Playing as bosses wouldn't have much to offer for experienced players, but I can see it being a lot of fun for, say, your little brother, who can't really compete against you in a normal match but still wants to play. Make the bosses playable on the gamepad, give them a few simple attacks, and it would work.

Not sure if it has been mentioned before but the final Boss from Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze would be an epic Smash stage.

Make the stage hazzards less common, add a few more platforms and we're set.

And remove the boss. Just have the platforms sink and rise of their own accord.
