[EDIT: Note, the site seems to be getting Thor hammered]

[ALSO: there's a promo code at the link (SDCC14) that has to be entered to get the discount... A couple people missed that detail and paid the full $10]

...I believe it's until Sunday, in celebration of Comicon. They usually do it a couple times a year. The regular price is $10 per month , which is what it goes to after the first month if you don't cancel. (EDIT: or it's $70 for a year.)

Basically, it's the Nexflix/Spotify of Marvel Comics. You can read digital versions of Marvel's entire archive, all the way back to Timely Comics form the 40's. Well, when I say "entire", it's still not 100% complete, but I bet it's close to 90%. All the major runs and events/crossovers etc are filled in at this point, for sure. Now and then you'll find a stretch of something they don't have done yet, but every week, there tends to be some new huge run that they just added. For example, a couple weeks ago, it was a giant stretch of early 90's Peter David Hulk that had been missing.

Also, every Wednesday (new comics day IRL for many many years), whatever Marvel comics came out on the Wednesday six month earlier get added as well. That's their policy, so hardcore fans don't just pay $10 a month and never buy a comic from them again. But for me it's perfect, because I subscribed late last year and have been working my way through all the major storylines or well regarded runs up to the present day from the late 90's, when I stopped reading comics.

The service works best on a tablet, and iOs tends to be a bit better than Android as I understand it. But the browser reader isn't bad either, and the phone version works okay if you don't mind reading in the guided, one panel at a time view. They've had a lot of complaints about the quality of their reader software since they first introduced Marvel Unlimited a few years ago, but while it still certainly has room for improvement, it has gotten a lot better. The browser reader works just fine for me if I go full screen.

Anyway, thought I'd post it in case anyone was waiting for the promo to come back again. I've enjoyed it quite a bit, and while it's still not perfect, I think it's worth $10 a month. And it's definitely worth .99 for a month.

Oh, and just to beat anyone else to the punch, yes this list is awesome, and it's all on there:

Wait, so new releases only get added to Comics Unlimited after being able to purchase individually for 6 months?

Marvel Unlimited is basically the best $70 I've spent this year. Highest recommendation, but be ready to get hooked.

Yep, correct. And newer individual issues from Marvel are sold digitally as well, but not via Marvel Unlimited. They have a separate Marvel app for that, or there's Comixology. (And it ain't cheap... same prices as print.)

I've gave this a try about a month ago, and thought it was pretty cool. Definitely worth it for a month, especially at 99 cents.

I highly recommend binging on Ultimate spiderman.

Although right now the sites running poorly for me, and the android app won't allow me to view anything. It can't seem to find the unlimited library. I don't think my accounts expired yet. I wonder if the sites getting hammered.

welp I might as well

I don't really read comics, I need recs guys, I don't know where to start for x-men, Avengers, etc

And it's easy to cancel before you're charged the full amount?

If I didn't have the WWE Network, I'd probably have this.

Is there any best of lists? Like the Cosmic Marvel list?

Like great story lines to follow? The best of Spiderman or the avengers, etc?

I'd love to subscribe to this in the future but right now I've only got a month.

Also FYI, there's a link to piracy in that image. Don't know how that's viewed by the mods.

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?
No Windows 8 app? That's a shame. Would sub to read on the Surface if there was.

This thing is pretty sweet. I recently through everything they had for Uncanny Avengers, Thor: God of Thunder, and Age of Ultron (blech). I'm also steadily working through the Avengers comics of my youth that led to me picking this username in the first place. Good times.

I'd also love to have any suggestions for other more recent series to read through. I'm fairly behind on most of the stuff after they started the whole Marvel Now! thing.

Oooh, that explains why I haven't been able to get the site to load anything today...

The interface is a little shitty though. I wish they grouped all of the digital issues by storyline instead of by book. I just read through everything they have that's up of the 2012 Avengers and because those storylines weeve in an out between New Avengers, and a fist full of tie in books, the ending of that story arc if you just read Avengers comes off like a wet fart.

I've been trying to go back today and read New Avengers but it's so backed up that I can't get any issues to actually load.

The cosmic stuff Duane posted is all good. So is Ultimate Spiderman. As is Superior Spiderman, (although they don't have the whole thing yet. It just ended and they don't have stuff newer then 6 months)

Most of the dark reign stuff is decent, especially Dark Avengers. Theres an events tab with a list of comics by events, so you can find it all in one place, though dark reign is really the only one I'd seek out. Most of the others had interesting concepts, but didn't really live up to them.

Though really it depends on what you're looking for.

Asked in the other thread but can someone already with an MU subscription take advantage of this?

I think so, although you might have to cancel your sub, and then renew. The month will probably be added on. At least thats how it looks like it works. Their account servers seem to have crashed, so i can't double check.

I actually just went to this list and started with Avengers Disassembled:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Publication_history_of_Marvel_Comics_crossover_events

And have been going from there. I'm now in the middle of Secret Invasion. And then during each of those events, if one of the tie in books really tickles my fancy, I'll keep reading it after the event ends.

Also, googling things like "what do I read between Civil War and Secret Invasion" works surprisingly well.

Of the major events so far, I thought House of M was fantastic, Civil War was eh overall, (but the tie in books were great in some cases), Planet Hulk was excellent, World War Hulk was pretty sucky. All the cosmic stuff has been SO good.

Does the promotion not include countries other than the US? It shows 9,99$ for me when I try to buy a monthly sub...

EDIT: Nevermind, there was a Promo Code. /facepalm

I super hate that. I mean, I get it, their trade is still in print, but Christ, you have NOTHING from 2014 online? NOTHING?!?

I've heard their iOS and Android apps really suck. Hopefully they improve it. I'd probably subscribe to a year if it worked as well as other comic apps.

The quality of their apps and browser reader has improved quite a bit. It could be more feature rich by far (like keeping track of what you've read would be nice), but the bugs that plagued it before have been ironed out. (well, I can't speak for Android, but iOs is much better, and so is the browser version).

Their android one at least is okay. It has trouble loading a comic every now and then, and has to be closed and re-opened, but other then that, it works fine and is pretty clean and easy to navigate.

The android one has a history tab that shows at least the last ten or so you've read. Does IOS not have that or do you mean it should keep track of every comic you've read?

The only thing i wish it had was being able to book mark series to read. As it is, i have to just add the first issue to my library and start from there.

Well, the buffer is 6 months so to be technical, the first three weeks of 2104 are up now. Infinity and Battle of the Atom are both now up in their entirety.

Have they improved the app yet?

Yes, at least the android app has improved. It loads the comics consistently even over 3g (which was spotty before) and doesn't automatically set the page setup in the wrong way (it used to reset to one page when viewing horizontally).

Oh yeah, iOs does have that. What I'd really like, though is something that keeps track of how far along you are in a crossover. I like the "events" tab, but the next day I have to try to remember where I left off. I CAN just see what the most recently read book is, but I tend to read a bit on my iPad at home, then read an issue or two over lunch via browser at work. And unfortunately, the recently read issues aren't global, they're per device. It's not the end of the world, but i love how if you're watching a series on Netflix, it just sends you right to the next episode even if it's the next day, or a different device.

The only thing i wish it had was being able to book mark series to read. As it is, i have to just add the first issue to my library and start from there.

yeah, or even better, that!

Won't take my debit card or credit card. Keeps saying my address info or DC/CC info incorrect (it isn't). I'll come back to it tomorrow since it's my weekend off.

Signed up this morning while the site was up, I had a trial for this that came with MVC3 when it came out and wasn't very impressed. It was nice in theory but they were missing tons of critical issues from story arcs.

That was years ago of course, so I'll give it another shot.

I subbed a month ago, and literally the only comic I wanted to read on impulse (Wolverine 75, the last part of the Fatal Attraction event, where Wolverine gets his metal ripped out by Magneto) wasn't up. Still angry.

If I want to read some modern X-men stuff, what should I read? I've already read most of the obvious stuff (Astonishing X-men, Messiah Complex, House of M, ect)

Lol I am in the same boat. I might look into the GotG series. I remember a post some weeks back suggestion which GotG to start on. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Growing up I was a huge fan of Spidy, and X-men. I am feeling really overwhelm lol.

Okay I signed up. Feeling overwhelmed. Where to start? Haven't read a comic of any kind for the last 14 years.

Since you signed up because of GOTG: Drax the Destroyer miniseries or straight from Annihilation prologue. The Drax series doesn't show up in the Annihilation event category. The first one is an easy read. Drax -> Prologue -> Silver Surfer, Ronan, Nova, Super Skrull issues-> Annihilation main issues.

Edit: though the team doesn't show up until later in the cosmic storyline, but I think it's best enjoyed from the beginning.

I am super tempted to try this just to get a sense of continuity from where I left off some years back with guardians , nova, and iron man. I quit around world war hulk since that storyline was bananas

To the new folks looking for some stuff to read, below are some of the best self contained MU runs of the past 10 years or so. Obviously not capturing everything but titles I've read and really enjoyed:

Ultimate Spiderman - Bendis
Astonishing X-Men - Whedon
Daredevil - Waid
Hawkeye - Fraction
Runaways - Vaughn
Immortal Ironfist - Fraction
The Ultimates - Millar
Daredevil - Brubaker and Bendis
Captain America - Brubaker
Thor God of Thunder - Aaron
Uncanny X-Force - Remender

I love this service, even at $10 a month. I'm reading thousands of comics I never would have otherwise, and it's really the best bang for my buck of any other subscription service I use (Netflix, Spotify).

For $1 you can't go wrong, really

I'm betting the post you're thinking of was recommending you read the 2008 series by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, rather than the Bendis version which started last year. However, I recommend you just start with column one in the OP, because all the characters from GotG are basically the cast of the huge epic storyline shown in that graphic, and the point at which they actually decide to form a team and call it that is well into the story.

Just start with Thanos 1-12 and follow the list from there. You'll enjoy every minute.

Jason Kidd murdered my dog in cold blood!
As much as I love Marvel, I do wish it was all of the main publishers under one subscription. I'll try this out though.

How far the archieves go ?

How many OLD stuff it has ?

The oldest stuff is Captain America's first book from 1941. Which was actually published by Timely Comics, 20 years before Marvel even existed. It has a few things like that from the 40's, and then everything from when Marvel really started in the early 60's.
