First Look at Halo: Nightfall

Plays Destiny.
Watches Star Wars.

The fuck happened.

You had one job Halo. Be my all around SF fix. The fuck...

Agent Locke? Choices between loyalties and life?

Le sigh...
What the hell does this even mean.

Looks great, nice to see a jump in production values.

Looks like shit. They didn't capture the look and feel of Halo AT ALL!

Really. As if they never bothered looking at one of the games.

Fail of epic proportions.

It's like you never paid attention to the look and feel of Halo before.

Because this is nothing new.

I don't think you know what you're talking about.

Huh - as if this is new?
Just watch the ODST promo again and then the game - nothing alike but still Halo and still good.

Never seen it before. Very bad in a very similar way.

Now I know you don't know what you're talking about.

I did. 100% different from this. You probably mean all the stuff they did aside from the games - I never payed attention to that.

I was remotely interested in the show because Ridley Scott, but nooooooooooooooo...

Still weird to me that they get a lot of successful live action Halo productions off the ground but never made it to a movie.

It's pretty simple actually. With these smaller productions, MS and 343 (or Bungie previously) have 100% total control of the product. They distribute digitally and can sell DVDs/Blu Rays themselves and license it to streaming services. In order to make a movie intended for theaters, they need to (or at least should) partner with a studio for distribution in to theaters and in doing so, they need to give up more control than they've so far been comfortable giving up.

You know it's not the best idea to speak on something you clearly have no interest/no knowledge on regarding the Media section of Halo (considering this is a thread about a media portion of Halo, and not the game in general.) the ODST promo, Reach promo, Halo Legends, Forward Unto Dawn, this and hell even Red vs. Blue are very much relevant to Halo's screentime/notoriety.

If you're a fan of Halo you should at least check out the films and comics. Dismissing them and coming to a thread to shit it up when you have no knowledge on it doesn't exactly make your argument look credible.

Going to have to agree to disagree with you there bruh. Those ODST commercials have been the best piece of Halo advertising ever. Hell, probably of any video game ever. Blomkamp's were great too and were a lot more gritty than the actual game and still work. Really 99% of the live action promo material through the years has been pretty top notch.

They certainly seem to have upped the budget considerably from FuD.

Not overly impressed with that first look though. I'm sure that will change as we see more from the show, at least I hope it will.

We finished shooting two weeks ago, so that was made for comic con, in a hurry, without any vfx or final color correction.

Not an excuse or a mea culpa, more of a, "and that's pre pre alpha..."

I have to to disagree with everything you said.
I can absolutely like Halo without giving a fuck about comics and whatnot.

As I said, I was interested in the show because of Scott, but this stuff I don't care for.

Oh and, don't tell me when it's appropriate to voice my opinion.

That's very encouraging news.

Also explains why it looks so lifeless in that clip. I look forward to seeing some post production footage.

So can you explain what exactly you were expecting from a Halo TV show?

Obviously you don't care for extended fiction, which is what almost all the media is based off of.

Certainly looks interesting. Hopefully it turns out better than Forward Unto Dawn because that wasn't anything special.

Looking forward to watching this. I always appreciate when we get a look into the perspective of people that aren't a part of Spartan program.

It's fine to just be interested in the games and the way they play, but when you dismiss the entirety of that universe and then opt to jump into it just because of a name drop, it does raise eyebrows. Can you explain what you were expecting?

You literally said you don't give a fuck about any of this. And then you come in here an reiterate that you don't give a fuck about any of this. What's the point?

You can come here and "voice your opinion", but it seems like such a childish thing to do and a waste of everyone's time.

Still doesn't quite translate to TV and why doesn't it come across as other TV shows, looks like cheap live action if you know what I mean. Compare the look of a Battlestar Galactica episode to this, it's totally off and makes the props look even worse, speaking of those, bite the bullet, don't paste from games, doesn't work.

Negatives aside, some nice vistas and story tease. I'll watch for final judgement.

Since Halo is a video game I think it might be a good thing that they didn't capture the look and feel.

That answers some of what I posted, phew.

Where's the Halo part of the teaser? I saw ONI and someone said UNSC, but....this so far seems to be totally new sci fi, with the name Halo on top? Is the element that kills humans new, or is that in the books/games? I didn't play 4/ read any books...

There is a Halo part in the teaser, literally.
