SDCC2014 | Nintendo Challenge: Live @ SDCC & Smash 3DS Tournament

The lack of early kills just seems like new game itis to me in which people just don't know how things work in this version and thus are scared to go too crazy

Getting to know the game more doesn't let you get out of the large endlag on the majority of moves.

so there is a good chance that Nintendo will continue to hold competitions for Smash4 for years to come?

Since the guys speaking are not only from Treehouse but Smash pros?

Depends how the game turns out.

Nintendo are probably going to continue doing a couple of tournaments, but if the game turns out shit you won't be really seeing these types of people at them because it would be dropped, this apparently official Nintendo tournament format isn't something that would go down well with the scene in a proper tournament either.

Luigi did a lot of nothing through the most of it but he came in bold at the very end. That seems to be the strategy from this pink Luigi player. I think he's counting the stocks and paying attention to all the numbers to make sure he gets what he needs to stay in the lead in the end.

And judging from the pacman trailer and video and the lucina trailer it seems like that has been addressed

I wouldn't say that, Lucina is meant to be a quick character so that makes sense anyway, sheik and ZSS have low landing lag as well, so I wouldn't consider it to be an indication of what the game is like, pacman also had significant lag on a few of his moves from what I remember.

But bowser had massive lag on his fair in the Falcon trailer, so it doesn't seem like it's been a general change yet.

The Pac-Man trailer was revealed at E3 where the lag-complaints first cropped up, not really sure how it could've addressed a fan complaint that hadn't even come up yet.

Has Anth0ny played yet? Only just woke up and sorta have no clue what I'm watching atm.

This kind of thing is crazy to me. We understand that it's a new game, but we also don't like certain things about it and want it to be changed. You can play just about any smash game to understand how high end lag and amazing survivability will effect it.

Anyways I believe that at the very least the killing will be fixed by release

You all know that f-tilt was just another dash attack in disguise. :lol

I believe so. NoA really cares about getting the community to accept the game. D1, who commentated at E3, and others continue to work with Nintendo in growing the scene.

Even if Sakurai makes no concessions and the competitive scene doesn't fully buy into the game as a successor to Melee, I think enough of the community likes being associated with Nintendo and will commit to playing SSB4. And if Nintendo sees good stream numbers like at E3, then they'll continue to support it.

I would like to imagine the tourney format would be more prone to change after the game has been released. Right now they gotta market the game to everyone which is completely understandable.

Once the full game's out, if Nintendo still keeps supporting the scene, hopefully the format and tourney ruleset/stagelist etc will be open to adjustments.
