Destiny: Only one area per planet

The starting gun is actually pretty decent for the Crucible, and the game doesn't let you play PVP until you reach a certain level (mostly so you have your super and double jumping). I don't feel like I have any other ability in the beta that's helping me out. It's mostly my OP assault rifle. :P

But of course, every multiplayer game is unfriendly to newbies.

Hence, the short lived populations.

I'd argue though, that there are ones that aren't. CSGO comes immediately to mind, and I've heard second hand that Titanfall allows newish players to have fun.

Just because they block it off after you've been there, doesn't really mean it should count a blocked off content imo.

I am just saying it is possible they blocked of explorable areas which may have content in them. There is most likely content that is higher than level 6 on the planet so I am sure we aren't really seeing everything.

The gateway seemed to be much larger than the glimpse we have had (I wandered around for a bit in the alpha and was wondering if there will be content there.) Because in every named area on the map so far there have been multiple level explorable regions.

That's still a dungeon. Most mmo's I've played have dungeons like that what your describing. Raids are generally different. Gw1, gw2, Tera, Vindictus, WoW. you name it.

We don't really know what the Destiny Raid entails. We only know that it will be the hardest mission in the game and will go for "hours".

I hated Destiny PVP until I got a good gun for the Crucible, and I didn't know the starting gun was good for the Crucible either. Now I have fun even if I'm losing...most of the time.

This proves there's a mercury pvp map. We also know there's a phobos pvp map, and a pvp map on the outskirts of the city.

The maps (normal one + the one you have to access for one othe story mission within old russia) indicate the we've basically seen and had access to most of Old Russia. There might be some blocked off content, but I don't think you should expect random blocked off door to open up new areas similar to the outdoor areas we have seen in Old Russia. Most likely I would expect the blocked off areas to be story mission related, only being accessible during specific story missions.

This could be a real problem.
I think Destiny is a great game. But is the world isn't huge and diverse it will get boring fast.
If there are only a hand full of areas all about as big as old russia it will be a problem for the game.

So what did this 500 million dollar investment go towards?

Hiring Golden Globe award winning actor Peter Dinklage, known for his role as the dwarf Tyrion Lannister in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, to do the voice of Ghost, your robotic AI companion through the campaign :)

I've been seeing a lot of posts saying "Guys, there are a ton of areas blocked by lvl 20, that's a ton of content blocked!. No it's not. Learn to Sparrow better. I've been into them all. They are either very very small dead end spaces, or shortcuts between the larger explore areas. There isn't a vast well of content there.

I will say though, there are 2-3 areas that are blocked off that will house more content, but it's not the ?? areas.

I got 15 hours of fun from just the one location in the Beta (plus the 1 hour of fun from the moon). Extrapolate that out to 4-5 locations and I'll more than get my money's worth.

Dungeons still. I've had dungeons in gw1 that have gone on for 3-4 hours. They're still dungeons. Raids convey a very specific meaning, not in content but in scale much like the term mmo does. You could call a 1 man soloable instance a raid doesn't make it so in the definition practically any mmo player uses.

He prefers the term 'half-man'.

Have you played a destiny raid?
I've played raids in WoW for years, you want 30 people in it? . It's not happening, there is no holy trinity and by definition, not a 'mmo'

You know what? I think I may wait until game of the year edition, or a we need sales edition. This game isn't that great, and sounds like none of the content will be more exciting than mmo quest design.

I agree, one of the biggest problems for me is how stiff the gunplay feels. I never liked Halo's gunplay and this just feels like it but with ADS.

Cross-gen strikes again. Or just Bungie having a far too unreasonable goal a couple years ago. Old Russia is definitely not the size of the entirety of Reach.

I loved the beta though, even given its smaller scope I'm completely addicted. And It looks like this is going to be expanded quite a lot. I'm expecting each expansion to be roughly the size of Old Russia at that price. If that's the case, and theres frequent events going on like the Iron Banner or strike/raid events, yeah I'm down, sounds fun.

Hopefully Destiny 2, likely being fully new-gen, will have larger zones and more variety.

Destiny games over 10 years. Still not seeing it, as that's probably $100m for each game over an assumed 2 years.

Key word was average. Not seeing why there would be 20 missions on the moon but not only 6 on earth for example.

We don't know here are only 6 on earth.

There is nowhere near enough data to even start thinking about the average.

I just realized something. For people who are in-it for the long haul ie doing the harder strikes, the raid and getting rare gear, wouldn't their time only be in one - two areas anyway? Sure, if you're in it for only the story this could be bad news but if you're in-it for the end game you're most likely going to be spending your time in one area anyway no matter how many planets there are.

It actually feels much worse than Halo gunplay.

Might as well only have one or two areas in the whole game then, amirite?

Oh, this too.

I was extremely disappointing how much ADS is needed for this game. Really killed a lot of hype for me.

6 people in an instance is a dungeon doesn't have to be 30, but 10 or rather 12 at least is the minimum in practically any mmo I've seen. 6 sits squarely in dungeon territory. Hell I've seen dungeons require more players than that fairly often.

Wow. I've really been enjoying the beta, but now I regret spending so much time with it. One area per planet is pretty disappointing considering how massive its been implied the game is.

the only thing I can think is other areas will be made available through DLC. It just doesn't make sense that Russia is the only place worth visiting on earth.

I'm in a holding pattern waiting on more info...

It looks like we get:

Earth: Explore, 5-10 Story Missions, 1 Strike (Devils Lair)
Moon: Explore, 5-10 Story Missions, 1 Strike (The Summoning Pits)
Mars: Explore, 5-10 Story Missions, 1 Strike (Cerberus Vae III)
Venus: Explore, 5-10 Story Missions, 2 Strikes (Winters Run, Nexus), 1 Raid (Vault of Glass)
The Reef: rumored to be a Hub like the tower with the Queen of the Reef Faction, recurring bounties

10-12 Crucible Maps including teasers of upcoming locations such as Mercury or Jupiter

Source: destinypedia and my imagination
At least that mostly covers the explorable solar system although it would've been nice if they included Mercury or one moon from each of the gas giants.

I love the game, but I'm worried about how much we'll be explored with DLCs and Expansions.

This. I've enjoyed the beta, but the announcement and names of the expansion packs being already released reeks of being missions being cut from the main game, opposed to brand new content they'll create after launch.

Are people really thinking the beta has all the earth missions? The jumping to conclusion going on in these threads is crazy

I wish we could go back to the pre-DLC era. The selling point of DLC in the first place was that if you enjoyed the full game, you'd have a chance to extend the experience through DLC. it just feels like we get 70% of the full game with the remaining 30% released in 3 DLC packs for $15 a pop. This is especially frustrating when said DLC comes out a week after the game releases.

I'm not saying this is what Bungie is doing with Destiny, but when we've been shown multiple areas on Earth, only to find out we only get 1 is a bit of a let down.

But the areas are gargantuan and some pathways are cut off. If you had the pleasure of exploring the Moon, then you'd know that it is surprisingly large. I have no worries about the game and still plan on the playing the crap out of it.

People should remember that this game has to fit into a console with 256mb of video RAM and 256mb of system RAM because of Bungie's desire for 'same experience on all platforms' nonsense.

This is definitely a last gen game.
