Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XI: Where 90% correct equals 100% wrong

I gotta say, I really like the Takamaru model, and that attack looks amazing! Would love to see him playable some day. There's so much they could do with him to make him a really unique and interesting character.

Same here. His model is pretty good and I hope that his attack would have an ability to knock out the opponents.

It's like Sakurai saw the Neiteio thread from yesterday and wanted to stomp out all our dreams.

Heh, probably.

between JC tweeting a picture from gaf and the """""coincidental""""" timing of the takamaru assist reveal, the cause is clear: we have nintendo staff among us here on gaf

if we aren't quick to identify them, they'll slowly pick off our desired characters one by one while we sleep until the game is nothing but assist trophies

Chorus men assist trophy confirmed.

Oh man, today is such an amazing day.

Takamaru assist trophy.

Here's hoping Project M makes its way over to the wiiU, I'd love for them to make new characters out of AT's

I'm still amazed at the brutality with which Sakurai shattered our hopes and dreams of Takamaru in Smash 4/5. That said, I'd say he's a shoo-in for Smash 6/7 on 4DS and Wii U2!

We should start asking for characters we want out then

:p

How is it that GAF members are more relentless about this news than any of my other outlets? Hell, Miiverse has fewer instances of people lavishing in the schadenfreude. There are actually people there being reasonable.

If I'm being objective, there has definitely been a steady increase in attention given to the Murasame Jo franchise and the Takamaru character in the last few years. Between a sizable role in Samurai Warriors 3, to a nod in Nintendo Land, and finally with the original game being made available for the first time outside of Japan, it is not too surprising to see a more prominent role in Smash Bros.

I honestly think this might be a stepping stone to bigger and better things for the guy. Is Nintendo working on a new entry in the series? We might have a legitimate case to make for Takamaru being playable in the next Smash Bros. game depending on how events unfold in the next few years.

It's the same as with Ashley, really. Except the bigger reaction came from outside of GAF.

I'm not jumping to any conclusions zroid, but all of that hasn't gone unnoticed here either. On another note, I'm hoping this leads to some cool fan art.

Because unlike absolutely no chance characters like Ashley, GAF understands that Takamaru was a legitimate choice who probably stood a decent chance.

I'm not saying Ridley is a playable character in the sense that we all know, love and hate, but who out there still thinks Ridley's role in the game is JUST an ordinary stage boss/hazard? Why couldn't Ridley get the band aid ripped off quickly like this?

People calling the Wii U game Smash 5 is confusing. 5 would be whatever the next game is.

Smash Bros can move consoles, Nintendo wont let it end that easy

Yeah, Iwata even said if Sakurai didn't come back for Brawl they would have made Melee+ with online functionality if they had to.

.... Melee+ would have been better.

Now that we've witnessed the Takamaru bloodbath, more fake leaks have been debunked. I wanted to see some meltdowns around the net but stumbled on a Gamefaqs topic to hold the tide until the next leaks are debunked. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/633202-super-smash-bros-for-wii-u/69737722
Basically:
- "Soft Leaker" said that Monday's pic of the day will shock you all without going into greater detail a few hours before Pic of the Day unveiled. Lo and behold hours later, Takamaru-gate.
- I say "Soft Leaker" because one of the posters caught on to this poster right after Takamaru-gate that doesn't really phrase their past topics as leaks but more like suggestions and questionings and stuff like "It's Probably Not Going to Happen."
- On July 26, soft leaker created this thread asking proof that Sakurai said he would add in Takamaru if he got another game. Concluded that it seems like a case of fans twisting Sakurai's words. Cue June 28's Takamaru-gate.
- Heavily suggests that while Smash has lost reps in the past, they've never lost franchises. And points out that Snake has so much work and effort done from Brawl that to just cut him for x-reason would be insane. Konami would be insane to not have Snake in a blockbuster. Porting his moveset to another character would be insane because the amount of work done with his voice acting, the music selection, and Shadow Moses Island stage would be for nothing.
- Casually suggests that we might see Green Hill Zone returning in reference to Shadow Moses Island. Confirmed a few days later.
- Infers that there's no way Ubisoft would just waste Rayman copyrights for silly trophies hence the secretly playable part or assist or whatever.
- When we were all expecting Shulk to be revealed on July 14, he casually predicted "It's going to be someone that no one expects, a la WFT/Greninja" days before the reveal. Lo and behold, Robin/Lucina-gate.
- Wario would indeed be the next veteran reveal... as indicated on July 16 when Club Nintendo updated their stuff with a lot of Wario games. I think this was days before eShop had their Wario mania.
- Sceptile and Ghirahim are treated with "lol, no."
- Some kind of Donkey Kong newcomer blind item disguised as an old man's rambling. Randomly posted on July 26... when Comic-Con was happening. OMG this person's part of Treehouse lol.
- Suggests more newcomers than we are led to believe. Robin/Lucina newcomer vid showed that newcomers can be bulked into the same videos so don't fear the low amount of vids left as Sakurai stated.

I dunno, I was bored. Reading up on his stuff, the poster has never phrased anything he says as a "Look at me! I'm a leak! Post stuff and I'll respond just a tiny bit to gain some traction!" and more along the lines of, "Well, just think about it. What purpose would it serve Ubisoft to just have Rayman as a trophy and nothing else?" and never claiming to be a leaker or a messiah in the first place. Just some random user who has spread out all their little bits and pieces over a couple of July weeks disguised as some opinions/ramblings/casual responses. Sorry for the long post (insomnia side effect!). If it's just some person making some educated guesses, oh well. But that's a proper way to tantalize the public without totally getting Nintendo ninja'd! (until now) Someone's gotta give the goods eventually. Japan Smash 3DS almost here anyhow.

Huh, I can believe it. This is usually how the authentic dudes with connections work, they post stuff as "ideas" or "speculation" rather than straight-up lists.

Too bad GFs doesn't have a User Search.

To summarize:

* No Takamaru
* Snake won't be cut
* Rayman will have a bigger role
* Wario next Vet
* No Sceptile or Ghirahim
* New Donkey Kong Representative. Possibly K. Rool
* More Newcomers than Chorus Men/Shulk/Dark Pit

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XII: The Mysterious Masahiro Castle
+1 on this one.
Smash Bros. will live on, with or without Sakurai. Especially if NoA has any say in the matter, since it's the one game they're really keen on promoting of late.
This my sound weird, but would a western developed (either Retro or Next Level Games or even someone else) Smash Bros game be possible in the future? It'd be an interesting thought if it could happen (I'd say that NLG would be more than worthy to do it)

Fuck no. Since all Melee+ would have added is online play it would probably have heavily damaged the franchise.

Think about it. $60 for a game YOU CAN ALREADY PLAY ON THE WII (in the exact same quality btw) with the only addition being unplayably shitty online. That's a ripoff.

I can see Next Level stepping up to make Smash once Sakurai bails out.

While I like next level, their games always feel lacking in some way that I can't describe. There is some piece of magic missing from their, otherwise great, games. I really don't know how to describe it, but Strikers, Punch out!!, and Luigi's mansion 2 all had this same 'feel' to them that I can't describe, but almost made them feel a bit soulless.

Don't get me wrong, I loved all 3 of those games... but there is some sakurai touch to smash that they would never be able to fill, I don't think.

I honestly think the best candidates for the next smash bros would be people working w/ sakurai currently. People who have learned from the master, not people trying to imitate sakurai.

I feel like if most people unaffiliated w/ sakurai tried to make the next smash, it would feel closer to PSASBR than smash.

Do you think Takamaru will get a stage in this game?

No assist trophy (only) characters had a stage in brawl, right? So I doubt it.

Because unlike absolutely no chance characters like Ashley, GAF understands that Takamaru was a legitimate choice who probably stood a decent chance.
I really hope you're just trolling with that comment about Ashley, because that coming from a K.Rool supporter is like a new chtululian level of madness that not even H.P. Lovecraft would dare dream of :P

Eh, whilst I like Sakurai a lot as a designer, I don't think there's anything about the way Smash plays that others couldn't replicate.

I mean, it happened already, albeit with Brawl assets.

I don't think it's impossible, but I do think we're more likely to see a sequel from a bunch of HAL or Namco developers who've worked on it in the past.

Partnering with Namco almost seems like a way of future-proofing the series, by accommodating a big external development team to work closely with Nintendo developers and franchises and HAL's left their mark on their series since we're still likely using some Melee code and assets in 4. (Plus HAL seems to be aching to make another fighting game, if Kirby Fighters Z is any indication)

then what about Melee HD? they did quite a good job with the Wind Waker, they could do that with Melee, add Online, co-op for single player modes and stuff like that, I know it won't happen, ever, but it would be a nice idea fon an HD port

Brawl added crappy physics, screwed up hitstun, tripping, and various other changes that made the game outright worse IMO.

I probably played Melee more than Brawl after Brawl's release.

I'm just casually hating on Brawl by the way, not being super serious or anything. But Brawl did hurt my interest in Smash a lot. I was so hyped for that game, staying up for Japan Time and all that. I don't even follow the PotD or anything and didn't really follow the Wii U game at all until the last trailer.

This seems mostly reasonable. I still think not enough has been made of the Rayman trophy. It seems very suspicious to me, and crazy.

Neiteio made a thread about Takamaru yesterday too. He must be a leaker as well!
