Brawl added crappy physics, screwed up hitstun, tripping, and various other changes that made the game outright worse IMO.
I probably played Melee more than Brawl after Brawl's release.
I'm just casually hating on Brawl by the way, not being super serious or anything. But Brawl did hurt my interest in Smash a lot. I was so hyped for that game, staying up for Japan Time and all that. I don't even follow the PotD or anything and didn't really follow the Wii U game at all until the last trailer.
It's funny just how much Brawl screwed over the franchise for certain people.
I can guarantee that there would be way more hype surrounding Sm4sh if Brawl had never existed, I know a lot of people like myself are being cynical about it just because we don't want to get burned again like last time, no point getting your hopes up if the exact same thing could happen again.
I generally like the look of sm4sh, but I'm going to pick out every negative and focus on them more than trying to stick with the positives just so I'm not let down as tremendously as before.
Seriously, fuck Brawl. If you enjoyed it, great, but it damaged the franchise in my mind as well as my view of Sakurai and I don't know if sm4sh will repair that or just make it worse.
I'd love to see what Smash would be like under a different director, especially a director who's of the more competitive inclination (surprise, surprise).
While there isn't nearly enough specific information provided to verify the poster, it's still probably worth keeping an eye out until he gets something wrong. Information can arise from the strangest of places.
All newcomers have had trailers first. Rayman is big enough news to be his own trailer, especially at some press event. If rayman were in the game, I think he would have been at E3, honestly.
While I don't think it necessarily is Rayman I reaaaly hope one of the characters announced as trophy so far will be playable. All playable characters DO have a trophy afterall.
Technically, I made a thread asking for thoughts on possible implications of Takamaru's game coming stateside. I suggested several possibilities -- 1) it means nothing, 2) a possible reboot/sequel, I.E. Sin & Punishment: Star Successor after the VC release of S&P1, or 3) Takamaru in Smash Bros.
Rayman over Takamaru? Yeah no, Rayman isn't worthy of that honour as Takamaru is a noble Samurai whereas Rayman is a freak of nature. Beside why would they keep it quiet since they didn't for Mega Man, Pac-Man and Sonic?
And honestly do we really want the game delayed just so Rayman can be ported to Super Smash Sony sister and Xbox dudebro smash?

I'm not making an effort to pick out the negatives, but otherwise I'm right there with you. I'm going to be skeptical of how the game actually plays until I get my hands on it.
That's part of the reason I don't have any trouble waiting for the Wii U version. I'm looking forward to playing it, but not so much I'll buy what's practically a demo that I'll never touch again once the Wii U version comes out. Back prior to Brawl's release I'd have absolutely jumped on portable Smash just to get my fix early.

Clearly including false possibilities to throw us all off the trail. 3 is deconfirmed, but this still means that one of the first two is a leak. Inside source has confirmed that either Takamaru is getting a new game or he isn't. Time to call up the tabloids.
I like the idea that you secretly working at the Treehouse though. The passion for Nintendo games is there I guess. From now on I'll post under the assumption that you're JC's alt account or something

Same. Although I've already played a couple of matches. So far it felt weird, but I was expecting that. I definitely didn't get enough time to acclimate to it. From watching it, I get the impression that it's a lot like Brawl, but with some improvements. I'll still get it and enjoy it regardless, but if it's closer to the Brawl side, I probably won't be playing it for the next decade.

I don't understand this line of thought. As a fighter, I think Rayman brings a lot to the table in terms of cool / different options. I'm all for it if Sakurai dedicates some time to it.
I wouldn't want it forced though...which while I love that Lucina is in the game, she still feels a bit forced given her similarities with Marth.
Wow, just saw the PoTD. Man what an awful timing l lol Specially after all that hype of his game being released and the fanart dump hours before he was revealed as an assist trophy. Oh well, him being an assist trophy actually makes me think his chances for becoming a playable character in the next game are high. (Just like Mac was an Assist Trophy before and now he's playable.)

I'm sure sakurai could make rayman a great fighter, but I just have a general disdain and hatred toward ubisoft. Not a fan of their games, not a fan of their business practices, not a fan of the forced use of 'uplay' in some of their games. I do not want to support them in any way whatsoever. Rayman in smash = free advertising for ubisoft = more money for ubisoft.

Well, I do understand your disdain for them as a business. To be fair though, I presume you feel the same about Konami / Snake? Their business has been really trashy outside of the Metal Gear series for a while now.
Takamaru seems like the Brawl Little Mac of this game- he's an assist trophy now, but there definitely seems to be some internal momentum behind the character at Nintendo, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him updated to playable in the next outing.
I'm actually pleasantly surprised that Takamaru is even an Assist Trophy. I also love that he's using the rook power-up which allows him to throw his projectiles in four directions simultaneously.

Mac also got a franchise reboot that did modestly well and some amount of popularity in the West. Takamaru's playing catchup on both fronts, and I personally don't think cameos and having your name slapped on tech demos is the same thing.
I don't doubt that there could be a potential revival in the works though, especially since Nintendo's farming out this that and the other thing to any developer interested in doing contract work.

Konami's not as bad as Ubi/Ea/Acti, imo. They're not great either, but I do love metal gear, which is much more than I can say for any games made by Ubisoft.

So you didn't buy Legends? Joke's on you.
Rayman is absolutely perfect for Smash Bros.
I played the demo, it did nothing for me. Can't put my finger on why I didn't like it, but I just didn't. That, and I fully do not support them, so that means that even if they do make a good game, I willfully miss out on it. I know it's dumb, but I just refuse to give those 3 companies any of my money.

Not trying to devaluate your opinion, but considering each character trailer for SSB4 gets (inofficial channels included) million(s) of views on youtube (English ver. only), gets great coverage on pretty much every gaming-related website, top post on all basically all gaming-related subreddits (with /r/gaming alone we're talking about 5.5m subscribers only which excludes all lurkers) and other similar sites, has a facebook page which wasn't even official until a few months ago and yet has over a million subscribers and (perhaps the most subjective yet most telling of all examples) even most of the biggest doubters on the very competitively minded /r/smashbros which initially refused to get it at all now want to at least TRY SSB4. The rest likes it. Hell, evern the formerly looked down upon 3DS version gained a lot of ground in the last few weeks. I think it's safe to assume that you and like-minded people are in the vast, vast VAST minority (
are we talking about dozens of people here?
) and don't really affect the general hype for the new Super Smash Bros. AT ALL.
I would love to give an account of smashboards as well, but I don't regulary post there
Huh, I can believe it. This is usually how the authentic dudes with connections work, they post stuff as "ideas" or "speculation" rather than straight-up lists.
Too bad GFs doesn't have a User Search.
To summarize:
* No Takamaru
* Snake won't be cut
* Rayman will have a bigger role
* Wario next Vet
* No Sceptile or Ghirahim
* New Donkey Kong Representative. Possibly K. Rool
* More Newcomers than Chorus Men/Shulk/Dark Pit
