Giant Bomb #8 | It's a Hit!

The current free weekly scenario on Velvet Sundown has changed to the second one in the QL.

I started as Ingmar (and secretly Alex's bodyguard, carrying a taser to keep him safe from attack), told everyone drug stories, and then when I met Alex, prodded him to tell me if he was involved in any illegal hijinks, and the second he said "No, my Dad always keeps his eye on me" I immediately tased him and shouted "YEAH THAT'S RIGHT HE IS" and logged off

Hahahaha what the fuck

I tried to download this game on Sunday but Big Picture Mode was having issues with it. Obviously I need to just go in on it.

...Who tazes the person they're supposed to be guarding?! You jerk! :p

Drugs.

I actually stopped watching the Velvet Sundown QL, but once I learned that the GB guys were playing the characters, I gave it another shot, and boy am I glad I did. Laughed so hard at the second round.

I found Dan's WoW video both unwatchable and fascinating at the same time. It's fascinating that a gamer like Dan can be so completely oblivious to games with MMO elements. Especially considering how the mechanics have bled into other genres. But the MMO player in me was getting frustrated and wanted to teach him all the little things that all these games share. Unfortunately I was only able to stomach about half of it before wanting to drive to San Fransisco and grab the mouse out of his hand. To no fault of his, I in no way think less of him for knowing so little about the genre.

It's odd that in 4+ years of watching Giantbomb videos this is the first time I've had this reaction.

Dan made a Human Warrior. Giant Bomb is doomed, shut it down.

Oh god Jeff, you can tell him the shortcuts can't you?

I'm not sure if Velvet Sundown is just too awesome, but I can't seem to get it to start up on my Macbook. Shame, it's like one of my favorite new ideas in gaming I've seen in a really long time.

I'm curious to know who's doing the Last of Us QL tomorrow, I know that Jeff is really bitter towards that game... hopefully it's Vinny and Alex so it won't just be an hour of "Here's why I hate this game"

Is this even a real post?

Why do you have an issue with this? Stop drive-by shit-posting and explain your issue with my post.

If a daily feature is required for you to sub, that's certainly fair enough, but why did you subscribe when they did do daily features?? Those videos didn't require a sub to watch.

Really don't enjoy DOTA which which was the closest they had to a daily feature for a long time. They didn't have a subscription during Persona 4 and Deadly Premonition endurance runs which I definitely would've subscribed during to show support.

Also by daily feature I was hoping for some consistent game. Props to Brad for keeping Daily DOTA going for a while but it wasn't my thing. Hopefully Vinny, Alex and Patrick can do some daily feature.

in the last two weeks we're at like an all time content high, more videos of all sorts

its just funny to see your post in the middle of it

its probably that more and more disappointing part thats getting people riled up

people were calling this the second golden age of giant bomb just pages ago

That's fine, but I don't want to watch every quick look of yet another indie game. A full playthrough of another game would be the only thing that gets me to resub at this point.

If that's all you care about, you should probably avoid the site. I doubt they'll do another daily endurance run for a long time, if ever.

Why would I avoid the site? I just said the only thing that'll get me to subscribe is a daily feature/endurance run type thing. I still go to their site and watch the quicklooks of games that interest me so they still make money off me viewing ads.

Vinny leaving was really disappointing for me, the chemistry between him and Jeff was what made the site for me so losing that sucked. That's what I'm referring to when I say disappointing, the quality hasn't dropped off and I'm sure some people are really enjoying all the new features. Just for me personally it's not the same.

Nor should they, unless a very specific game and circumstance comes up that encourages it. I mean, just type "Let's Play" into YouTube and you'll find millions of free videos of complete playthroughs of different games by various personalities. There isn't much point in Giant Bomb throwing their hats into that ring, unless and until they can bring their own brand and idiosyncrasies to it in a way that matters, doubly so if it is to be a premium/paid feature. I feel like Jeff has intimated that before in a Jar Time (or maybe Tumblr, or a combination of).

That Don Bradman QL broke me in more ways than I care to add up. But I'm glad they played it, it's a really tremendous cricket game, probably my favourite since Super International Cricket on the SNES. The silly Don mannequin shenanigans at the beginning and end though, urgh.

And Dan, fuck me. I've nearly had my head fall off from shaking it so hard listening to him. What a human being.

I have a strong belief that Dan really wants to get an Endurance Run feature going, and it would be a huge shame if Giant Bomb denies him that.

Most of Dan's greatest work comes from Game Informer's "Super Replays," which were pretty much Endurance Runs on a biweekly basis (twice a week). Heck, Dan's "egg whites" story was first delivered to the world through a Super Replay of Yoshi's Island.

Watching the WoW video now... Does Jeff ever say what his character name was? Or what guild he was in?

I too was on Ner'zhul back in Vanilla/TBC, but obviously on the superior Horde side :p

Oh god on the WoW video, Dan said he likes Rambo 4. I think I'm going to have to go "Patrick" on him and just dislike him irrationally, because I can't relate to him at all.

I still can't get over him saying Terminator 2 is better than Terminator 1, let alone the fact that he thinks Terminator 3 is better than Terminator 1. :p

Rambo 4 is a great film. Lets not pretend this is anywhere near as crazy as his Terminator rankings.

Dude, Rambo 4 (or "John Rambo", but I refuse to call it that) is awesome.

Eh Rambo 4 wasn't bad and as he said was ridiculously violent to the point of comedy.

Actually, just Rambo.

And yeah, it's a great movie. I can understand people disliking him for liking T3 (I like the movie myself, but I'm not a crazy person so I don't think it's anywhere close to T1), but not for Rambo.

Not that Rambo 2 and 3 are high art, but I think it's a lie to say that 4 is better than them in any way. :p

You might be able to make a case for Rocky 6 being better than most of the earlier films, but Rambo 4? It's a duller version of the Expendables movies... and it's not like those movies are all that great either.

It's ok to be completely wrong about things sometimes, but this is not one of those times. Comparing Rambo 4 to the Expendables movies should be a punishable crime.

Take away the gimmick of the cast and you're left with boringly shot and functional action movies.

I mean, I like the idea of the Expendables, but when a made-on-a-budget movie like The Raid looks better than a film with probably a hundred times its budget? I don't know what to say at that point.

I'm pretty sure that was SuperTurboMan's point.

Watching The Raid and The Raid Part 2 back to back is pretty much an action overdose. It's just not safe to do without adult supervision.

Edit: Van Damme playing the villain is the best thing about Expendables 2.

Rambo 4 is an alright movie. I don't think I've ever watched all of it but it had great gore effects. It's definitely far better than all of Dan's film atrocities so far. Expendables is boring shit though.

The Expendables movies are bad and boring (movies like that being boring should be a crime). But Rambo 4 is a good action movie with an absurd amount of gore for what it is. I like it a lot.

I can't tell any more. Does he like Rambo 4 or the Expendables franchise? lol

Rambo.

Rambo 4 literally ends in a fucking turret sequence. Like 5 minutes of old and fat Rambo sitting on a gun and shooting people. It felt like I was watching an FPS game made in 2003. :(

Rambo 4 is so goooood. I can't believe some people just dismiss it. It's so much better than The Expendables franchise.

I think Rambo (2008) and Rocky Balboa (2006) are some of Sly's best movies.

Don't get me wrong, I like the sixth film! But it's good because it replicates the beats of the first film and throws in the washed up old man gimmick on top of it.

I'm not coming to either Rocky or Rambo for originality though. Both Rocky 6 and Rambo 4 did what previous films had done, but both did it extremely well. For what they were, they were great films.

Well, let's be honest. If you're talking about unironic "good", then First Blood is the only good Rambo film. I suppose if you wanted another take on 2 or 3, then having him massacre the Burmese army isn't that bad. I just think the fourth film was about as interesting as the tedious Rambo game that was released fairly recently (and that Alex did a QL of, I believe).

Na.

I'm putting spoiler tags on that statement because it's blasphemous!

I personally think Rambo 4 is the best Rambo film since First Blood. First Blood is of course in a league of its own, but I would call a film like Rambo 4 good in an unironic way. Sure it's hokey at times and isn't exactly Oscar material, but it's a kick ass action flick. There's nothing ironic about that! A lot of 80s action movies are acted badly, have pretty awful stories etc., but if the action is good enough I enjoy the movie without any irony. Of course there's a lot of "so bad it's good" movies like that too, but that's another story.
