EA announces Subscription Service for Xbox One ($5/month or $30/year, get game vault)

Seems too cheap, there must be a trapt, EA can´t do this

The value here is very low with no indication of what's to come, not sure why anyone would be excited before we see the big picture. This is EA after all, they are not doing this out of the goodness of their heart.
No company has done anything, ever, out of the goodness of their heart. They're a business and they're in the business of making money.

5 day early access to unreleased titles seems odd. It makes a decent amount of sense for sports games but for a game like Dragon Age not so much. What half decent gamer couldn't finish that game in 5 days and then pay nothing at all?

This is EA's version of PlayStation Plus

Wonder if other publishers follow suit.

NO reason for EA to restrict this to XB1 unless Microsoft paid for it. Will be interesting to see how that shakes out

The games in the vault are entirely free w/ the subscription and won't be removed from the vault, new games will be continually added

EA Access TOS:

As part of the EA Access Services, members with an active subscription are offered (1) the ability to play a limited trial of certain EA Content 5 days prior to the date that EA Content is otherwise available on the Xbox Marketplace (“Play First”), (2) discounts on EA Content offered through the Xbox Marketplace (“Discounts”); and (3) access to a limited library of certain EA Content (“Vault Title(s)”) for unlimited online play (“Vault Access”) for the duration of their availability in the Vault. Limitations and exclusions may apply.

Vault Titles are subject to change and may be removed, and the online services for certain Vault Titles may be discontinued. In the event that EA changes the EA Access Services, including the removal of Vault Titles or discontinuation of online services for certain Vault Titles, we will provide thirty (30) days advance notice to you by posting a notice on http://www.ea.com/eaaccess.

Which works out to the price of games recently until the recent price hike. LOL!!! I already pay less then that for new games to begin with from various promotions with EB/Gamestop, Amazon and Best Buy. This promo is pretty much garbage unless you're really into playing the new titles a few hours to a day earlier then launch. Still a waste of money if you ask me.

You're probably right, for people that don't play many EA games, but I always get Madden every year on release day. If I can get it a little bit cheaper and digital too(which I prefer on my X1) then I think it's great value for me. In addition, I get to play all the games in the vault, and get a discount on DLC.

Sorry if this has been asked, but this thread is moving fast. I don't own an Xbox One and I noticed that an Xbox Gold is a requirement for this. Can you not purchase demos, full games, or DLC without having a Gold Subscription? It seems strange that you would you put a subscription service behind another subscription service for something like this.

So my point was the downplaying part. Yeah, I know this is neogaf but neogaf can perhaps grow a bit..

It is stupidity itself to jump in a thread and bash something because it is not on their system. If you have to make a choice from the beginning, then you are already aware of stuff that you will be missing.. why come in and bash about it.

The ideal would be like.. you know, rejoicing about a potential cool service and if anything, than perhaps this can entince those who chose one system, to buy another one.

However, we will probably have peace between Palestine-Israel before Neogaf wises up, right?

It'll be easier if you just ignore console war discussions like pointless political banter.

Also, again - not all of us think this service is cool.
It's perfectly fine for people discuss the service offerings.

Just as people can laugh at PS NOW's ridiculous pricing even if they don't own a PS system. That doesn't mean people who do so are necessarily anti-sony people.

Lol someone is criticizing this, better ask if he owns a XB1...

Lol....the question would lead to the poster buying a product with no indication of what's to come. Which would seem like a weak argument to apply here.

Console wars is for buzzards....but thanks for assuming

Really? So when my friend's business closes and they go support his local MS walk it's to make money? I guess you learn something every day.

You can purchase anything.

The only difference is the silver members might miss out on special discounts.

People calling this a bad idea, you realise that this is mostly aimed at people who want to pay for early access to games, right? To me, the 10% discount off DLC and the older games to download are just a bonus.

This is a terrible deal, I can't believe how many are considering this a good deal...

EA has 2-3 games a year now (not counting the sports franchises) you are paying a subscription fee to pay less for a new game!?

So instead of making the pricing of digital more appealing and competitive to physical, they get people to front an upfront cost to make it look like you are paying less for digital... Is that what this is or am I missing some major point or feature...

How is this a good deal and I've seen some compare it to Netflix, how is it anything like netflix other than you pay a monthly fee to gain access to content (of which is all from a single publisher)

If they flesh it out with some of their older titles, it could be pretty cool.

So what is the Vault exactly? Selected access to older games while you subscribe?

well its easy to do when you control all the ip's that you are putting out there. but when you have different publishers with different agendas it becomes a challenge to smoothly roll-out your vision.
Basically this. Not really sure why PS Now is even brought up.

A lot of crying and idiots in this thread. It's pretty obvious what's going on. How much money does EA make on old used games? It's their way of getting a piece of the old games. I guarantee they will have a ton more than those first four games.

They are probably working on making older content compatible on XBO. And they are giving newer to be realased content incentives which is better than nothing.

It's about time one of the big publisher did something news worthy.

And really, all the ps4 tears is pathetic. Grow up. Be an adult, and stop whining. I only have a ps4 at the moment. I'm not going to cry how it is unfair.

It sounds like a pretty good deal for some people, myself included. I occasionally enjoy a sports game, but I have never and will never buy a sports game for over $20, so when I do buy one its the previous year. Since I don't follow any sports, it simply makes no difference to me if rosters or stats are wrong.

Unfortunately, my favorite sports series is The Show, so i'm not sure I'll ever actually sub. I've been wanting to try a hockey game so I may pay for a month.

How about maybe that some people are not just interested in giving EA anymore money and are stating their opinion here? Why don't you think about that.

That makes sense, thank you. I feel like adding a subscription behind another subscription is going to hinder your audience unnecessarily, but I have a feeling audience size isn't their first concern with this.

Imo it is. This makes no sense of being a exclusive. Its a big fuck you to people on pc and ps4 , especially on pc with origin.

Your assumption is that anyone who has an issue is due solely to System Warz™? What a stupid post.

This is great. I see it the EXACT opposite way. The vault and DLC savings are what I want...the early access is the bonus (for me).

Hmmm... How about you grow up and be an adult and stop assuming that everyone who's against this is a PS4 owner.

Edit: Banned.
