EA announces Subscription Service for Xbox One ($5/month or $30/year, get game vault)

This sounds great. The problem will be subjected on what EA place in the vault. They Won't place newer games. They won't put themselves in a position to lose millions.

But from a gamer who like to play with real life friends games like NHL which we all wanted to play yet didn't want to spend the money this works. Even on old games I would give it a shot.

I don't play many EA games, but it sounds like a good deal. I may try it for a month before deciding if it is worth subscribing for good.

I remember when EA use to be the Kingmaker... I feel like those days are over.

The Wii was a success without the full backing of EA and then EA had essentially done everything in their power to make sure MS had the most dominant console this generation. So far, that is not panning out... and I do not see it overtaking the PS4 in sales, ever. In my eyes they've failed in this endeavor and they are losing the power they once grasped tightly.

Just got an email about it too. Dash beta guys and gals will get to try it out.

Not sure if I will. I sold my FREE FIFA 14. Doing I'll wanna pay $5 to play it.

EA introduces an optional service that gives you access to

- a library of "free" full retail games
- discounts on new games
- early test versions

for freaking $2,50 a month.

Then I made the mistake and clicked into this thread. Some of the reactions are just ... So damn awful. So much resentment, envy and missing respectfulness. Whatever those free PSN+, XBL GwG games and so on made with the gaming community ... It wasn't for the good only. Sadly. I know many people won't agree with this part, but maybe I am seeing the whole situation a little bit different here.

I 100% agree. I've always hated the "entitled gamer" stereotype but this same thing happens in early access threads and PS+ and GwG threads and it certainly helps further that stereotype.

Definitely going to try this out. It's too cheap to just not give it a go.

The slow death of game ownership continues. Games as a service. Isn't this what all the publishers want to do? I don't like this at all. Boycott EA.

What does that have anything to do with this thread? This is a good thing, nothing less.

$5 a month to play old year old games? In a month Madden 25 will probably cost $5 to just buy it. FIFA as well (not sure when the new FIFA comes out).

This is what I'm thinking. If it was new releases (yes, they can't do that right now) and stuff, maybe the sub would be worth it if you only want to play EA titles for said year.

The $30 a year is worth just the digits discounts. The access to older digital games I just a huge freaking plus.

I hope more companies do this!

No it isn't. That 10% off isn't worth the $30 a year. Double so if you only play Battlefield from EA like I do.

If they want to get me, they offer me Premium for free (I get to keep it) for the $30 a year. That'd at least give me an incentive in buying it over just buying Premium and BF4/5/6/whatever for $120 normally.

I'm actually amazed at how many of you are for this. This seems entirely worthless and a cash grab but never underestimate gamers, they'll gobble up anything you slide in front of them.

30$ a year is a steal, why would you not get this. Already have Fifa and Peggle, and traded my Battlefield long time ago. This will be a good reason to jump back in.

So EA is offering quite a big bunch of its franchises for the same price Sony is renting games for three months? Competition in this renting digital games model is going to be interesting :P

On no level is this worthless, it's worth it to me for BF4 alone as I was thinking of getting round to buying it

Please do explain yourself. How is this a cash grab.

Early access to all the great upcoming games and free starting games like FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4. Worth way more than 30$. Hopefully this collection will only be expanded over the months. Great deal.

Stop insulting GAF members for having a different opinion than you.

Oh please, stop being so dramatic. EA (and Microsoft) are still among the biggest players in the industry.

It sounds great. When viewed by itself, it really is. But if 5 years from now, every publisher does this, there is no way I'm subscribing monthly to every publisher I enjoy games from. 30 bucks for a year is a damn good deal - especially if every publisher uses that pricing. I could subscribe to several for 30 bucks a pop - I could see that. However, I'm worried the price may go up as more titles are added to EA's service over time. I'm cautiously optimistic about this though.

If this was $10-$20 a month, then yeah, it's a cash grab, but $2.50?! I can find that much in the cushions of my couch or under my car seat.

Good thing it's completely optional! Oh, wait, this is EA and MS so they must have a gun to you and your puppie's heads making you subscribe.

If you don't care about owning your games, and you planned on playing some of those games anyway, $5 a month / $30 a year is a great deal.

You sound very bitter.

"Evolving selection" is so ominous. Definitely wait and see, make sure they don't do a "and this week, your only game is Peggle 2!!".

I don't have a clue what "missing respectfulness" is, but excuse some of us for not getting excited to play last year's sports games or lesser multiplatform games on our secondary (tertiary?) console.
