EA announces Subscription Service for Xbox One ($5/month or $30/year, get game vault)

Sounds like a cool program...and I buy a couple EA Sports games every year...but its the wrong platform for me...

I'm not gonna buy an Xbone to save some money on multiplatform games
 
Just downloaded it. Subbed to a year. And got Maden 25, Fifa, and BF4 digitally. Gonna trade in my discs of Madden and BF4, I know gamestop has the %50 trade in bonus plus and extra $15 trade in bonus when you trade 2 Xbox One games. So I imagine that will cover close to the $30 I paid. And Im gonna get %10 off of Madden 15, Fifa 15, and Dragon Age. Pretty awesome,

That's not bad at all.
 
Of course, as soon as I say I wish I was in it, I get a message about it. I also found out that if you get messages with codes in them you can go ahead and redeem them through that instead of having to write it down. Pretty cool. Already subbed and got all four games in my installation queue.

I already know that it's 5 bucks plus the price of Madden after that. The 10 percent off digital takes care of the 5 dollars. I used to get the season pass and this is a helluva a lot cheaper than that.

I thought the gamestop trade in bonus ended on the 27th. I could be wrong though.

Just subbed a month and got the games. Already bought Peggle a while ago.

So is there a chance at new additions to the vault next month or so?
 
So, I got a code for this. When I went to redeem, it passed the wrong string, so I had to manually enter the code. It accepted it, said I'd successfully done it, and now I can't find any sort of app. Anyone get this to work?

And yes, I'm in the preview program. Does the XB1 have a DL history for re downloading? I have no idea.

Edit: Never mind. It was tucked away in the middle of my apps. Front or back, guys, front or back.

Ha, they'll give you 10% off coins for Plants vs. Zombies.

Got my code, here are couple of screenshots. You can also buy subscription through XBL Store itself, so it's not exclusive deal with GameStop or Game (UK) as announcement made it look like.

Im honestly shocked you guys think EA will actually give you "value" for your subscription. Keep running gaming into the ground guys. Make sure you all give Dungeon Keeper 5 stars on the way out.
 
Ok so I just signed up via my X1.... something that is pretty damn cool. So I deleted Madden from my HDD as I own the disc.. and it would not let me download it for free for some reason. So I went to play BF4 which I also own on disc but the disc was not in the drive.. and it plays the game. SO if you have a disc based game that is in the vault... install it to your HDD and you will then no longer need the disc.

Thought that was interesting.

Also.. you can NOT use any money you have in your MS account.. you MUST sign up with a Credit Card as they want to set a renew date.

I signed up, set BF4 to start downloading then clicked on Fifa (which was also in the disc drive already so I ejected it), pressed play and waited... took a few seconds to think about what it was doing then it just loaded up and I'm playing, good work.

Even if they dont add any more games to the vault I have already gotten value out of it. I want to go all digital this Gen. Now I can trade the couple physical disk I have and get them digitally, which would have cost me much more then $30 to buy from the store. Plus all the stuff I said in my previous post.

This whole MS or EA are some comic villain mentality is tiring.

Service at face value looks great
 
Between this, delaying Battlefield: Hardline for them to take in player feedback and fix the game up, and some other recent announcements that I can't remember right now, EA's been on a role with good publicity!
 
Holy crap, this is pretty damn amazing! And considering my most heavily played game right now happens to be FIFA 14, I don't view FIFA 14 being on that list as a small thing. Full and unlimited access to all those games is definitely worth the price of admission with more on the way. This is a pretty cool thing for them to do, as I can easily see this being a place they throw games in hopes of getting some extra money from people that may be interested once their sales slow. You'd basically be spending $5 a month for $30 a year, but upon paying that first $5 you instantly have access to all the games in the vault. That's pretty cool.
 
People are seeing the OMG $5 a month/$30 a year for 4 games and I'm not saying its not great value because it is, but if the releases don't come out regularly in the vault, I don't see why people would renew their monthly sub, especially if they have played all the titles in the vault and the releases trickle in.

Also it seems they can easily take away access to your game if they want to rotate a title in, which I'm sure will annoy some users. I think the way PS Plus does it, where you can download the title and keep it till the end of your sub makes more sense.
 
So are the Vault titles permanent and continually added to? Or is it on a rotation and you can play x games for free while they're available?

Seems like a good deal, especially if you play the sports titles.

Yeah, the game data is the same, whether it's installed from the disc or downloaded, so it probably just comes down to a "what type of DRM should I apply to this data?" flag internally.

You can do the same thing with a regular Xbox Live purchase of a game as well...if you already installed it via a disc, you don't have to redownload the entire thing after buying the digital license.

I bet you're so much fun at parties.

It's negativity like this that drives me nuts within the gaming community. If it ends up sucking then people should vote with their wallets and not continue a subscription. Just because it doesn't provide 'value' to you doesn't mean it won't to others.
 
Got my code and downloaded the app. Subbed on the US store as opposed to the AU store to save $10 initially and more on future purchases.

Considering the kids play the XB1 the most this is brilliant, $30 a year to play games that I don't have to go and buy new for $60+ here in Australia.

Even these older games will keep them occupied well after the new release come out annually.
 
Installed and downloading BF4 and Madden now. Just went with the 1 month for now. Never got a email though. Just a xbox live message. Had to manually enter the code though.

great news is that you can pay 5$ and rent the games for a month. whats not to like? if 5$ is too much for a month of games you don't want to buy anyways, then idk what is a good deal. maybe 2$
 
Worth noting that these titles aren't yours for the duration of your subscription ala PS+, they will cycle and change , they will remove access to vault titles and replace them with others.

Ah thanks. So the Vault titles come as part of the subscription, everything else (like new release titles) you have to pay for but is discounted and you get early access right?
 
Just got my invite. I'm going to do what a previous poster did and take my copy of BF4 back to gamestop. First game I bought for my XB1 and the only disk based game I own. Will never own a disk again!

My opinion is that the only people that will pay the $5/month sub is those who don't want the full access but want to play Madden 5 days early. They'll sign up for a month and then cancel. $5 is nothing to those guys who want it early, most would pay $10-$20.
