EA announces Subscription Service for Xbox One ($5/month or $30/year, get game vault)

Man EA, really doesn't wanna partner up with Sony, even after Xbox One sales are tanking in sales far behind Sony, worldwide, there gonna bet the barn that this EA Subscription, will entice more people to buy an Xbox One. News to EA, don't put your eggs all in one basket. I'm curious to know how much MS "paid" to make it exclusive for there Xbox One system. Could be the last kick at the can to entice people to buy Xbox Ones.

This is great deal for us in australia. Buying bf4 right now costs 40-50 dollars still, same as fifa.

If i can pay the same amount for an entire year worth of games/access thats an amazing deal.

I would like to see timelines on what else will be coming to the service

Need For Speed
Mirrors Edge
Battlefront beta
New Battlefield e.t.c

This is definitely something.

Welp, it's all over suckers. In five years when your all complaining that here's no original games because EA, Activision, and Ubisoft all have their own subscription services and other devs can't break even then just look back at this thread where everyone is lapping up dat $30 price tag from a company that is routinely villainized on this very website. Here's the future: you get your indies on PS+ and Xbox Games with Gold, your AAA games from the subscription services of giant devs, and your other games from nowhere else because it's impossible to compete. Have fun.

You know having played around with madden I have to say if EA can basically pull off a PSN plus or Games with gold situation and keep a steady stream of games going into the vault and you can keep access to them then this is going to be a steal at 30 bucks a year.

I have to give them props. I'm usually not a huge EA fan myself but this just might win me over.

Has it been established exactly how the Vault works...like is it like PS+ where once downloaded it's yours for as long as you subscribe...or can EA pull games in and out at will. If the latter I see a lot of potential crying down the road.

I'd imagine Gamestop is in a pretty weird position. On one hand they are specifically mentioned as having the subscription cards (once available) but on the other hand this will probably make them do a pretty steep slash of trade-in values for EA games in this program.

Tomorrow at GameStop...

That's a nice hat you've got, is it made of tin foil?

I haven't bought any EA games on my PS4 yet. Frankly after Sim City and BF4, I don't think they deserve my support or money, but this subscription sounds cheap enough that I might still consider it when I get an Xbox One.

I'm sure its like that if you stop paying you lose your game. EA can rotate the collection but will get notice when they do.

"Today we're writing to let you know about EA Access announced today by EA. EA Access is a subscription product created by the teams at Microsoft and EA, and it's exclusive to Xbox One! "

ha ha oh wow how did I miss that

An odd statement too.

Well, I might bite for ps4, but since that's not happening...

This is a headscatcher, why would this be exclusive? What does ea have to gain?

Edit: Apparently it's exclusive because Microsoft helped create it. Literally the post above mine >_>

What the hell does this have anything to do with what you're talking about?

It's not stopping me or anyone else picking up new games at retail.

This is another option for consumers to get games for cheap that they might not have bought or played. I sure as hell wasn't going to buy BF4 or Madden 25, but now I'm downloading them and am going to try them out. If they suck or I just don't like them, it only cost me $5. If anything, playing older games might get new people interested in future releases.

Maybe you should calm down though.

But, what I'm asking is can EA remove games from the Vault even for paying users. Like can EA pull something like BF4 out of the catalogue rendering the download useless once the game is removed from the selection.

This may have been discussed, or answered already. But how long does it take for new EA titles to go to the vault?

For Example, when Madden 15 releases, I know you get up to 5 days of the trial to play it before it releases. After that, you can buy it digitally for 10% off the retail price.

How long is it after that when you will be able to play Madden 15 in the vault with your subscription without having to buy the game? I am going to assume it will take several months, once sales start to slow.

This, my friend, is the million dollar question... Which will probably make or break this subscription.

When the vault gets a bit more content, I'll be VERY interested

I think this might be the only catch, these titles wont be in vault forever.

yes, they reserve the right to do so w/ 30 days notice.

EA reserves the right to change and update the EA Access Services, and the EA Content offered through the EA Access Services without any liability to you. In particular, Vault Titles are subject to change and may be removed, and the online services for certain Vault Titles may be discontinued. In the event that EA changes the EA Access Services, including the removal of Vault Titles or discontinuation of online services for certain Vault Titles, we will provide thirty (30) days advance notice to you by posting a notice on http://www.ea.com/eaaccess.

sounds like they're mostly talking about old sports titles though

Worth it for the new Madden alone. Nice that you get it early and price wise its a Great deal. Just got the invite for EA Hub and am already installing FIFA.

It absolutely will stop people from buying games at retail. Let's say I'm an average Joe who buys Assassins Creed, CoD, Madden, and maybe a few other games a year. If I wait six months, all of these games will be on a service that costs half the price of each of these games brand new (and roughly the price of what these games cost six months out anyway). So now I've got the titles that I play every year PLUS a bunch of extra stuff that removes any need for me to buy something that isn't made by these publishers. The entire point of a service like this is to get people to be only playing games from the respective publisher.

You still have to buy those new releases (Madden NFL 15, NHL 15, FIFA 15, NBA LIVE 15 and Dragon Age: Inquisition)...once the early access runs out you can't play it unless you have the full game...if you buy them digitally you'd get the 10% off

Wait, so this is only on Xbox One? That doesn't seem right.

EA and MS partnered together to make this service..it's not a solely EA created thing

Same. I loaded the app up today and I already own Peggle and BF4. Fifa and Madden just dont cut it for me to try out the service yet. Hopefully they add or rotate the games soon. The app also looks alright. Ill give them credit this is a great idea. I just hope they add more games soon.

Has it been mentioned anywhere if you get access to the DLC too? This would be a good perk as well!

If there's a game I want or am hyped about, I'm going to want to play it right away.

Maybe some people are going to want to wait, but I would imagine most people are going to want their mom or dad or go to Target or Best Buy on release day and buy the new Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty.

The majority of people aren't going to just want to sit there playing the old BF, CoD, Madden, whatever while all their friends are playing it online right when it comes out.

The entire point of this is for them to make money on games that people either aren't buying new or are picking up for cheap at GameStop. In both cases EA isn't seeing a dime of profit. This way they are. There isn't any conspiracy about DRM or killing retail or making all games as a service like you seem to think there is. It's simply about making some more money off of legacy games that nobody is buying new at the store.

Put down the tin foil and go outside, you'll feel better,

I think this might be the only catch, these titles wont be in vault forever.

Well, I could see, for example, Madden 25 staying in the vault during Madden 15's release. Then, lets say 3 to 4 months before Madden 16 releases next year, Madden 25 would be removed from the vault, after giving subscribers the 30 day notice, and then it would be replaced with Madden 15. Pretty similar to how it is setting up now. You get Madden 25 as part of the subscription since it is only a few months from release of Madden 15.

That way, you can always play the previous year's Madden game if you have a subscription, but would have to pay to own and play the newest Madden game, at least until a few months before the next Madden Game releases.

I am assuming, again, that Madden 15 wouldn't go into the vault until after the Super Bowl. I know many times I say I am not going to buy Madden, but as the football season continues, I really want to play it. EA wouldn't want to give the game away to "the vault" when there are people who will still impulse buy it just out of hype during the real NFL season.

I am still surprised how is this news not getting a big spot light on media "All EA games will be playable 5 early on Xbox One Exclusively". And we are talking about the full game here. Isnt this too good?.

Major Nelson will tweet nearly your exact quote every single time a new EA title is released.

May get this, but I don't know. The only game I am buying that EA is publishing is Dragon Age this year. Don't really know if it is worth it.

Well I wouldn't blame him actually. Everyone was shouting from the roof about 3 days early Destiny Beta on Playstation. So this is bigger than that. And the fact you can earn achievements and stuff great.

Buy the subscription for Oct month. You will get Dragon Age for 54$ after discount and also get to play 5 days earlier. And you only pay 5$ for month subscription.

getting close to 2k posts here and has kept the thread on the front page for over 10 hour now, it's only a matter of time

It was from an email sent to members of the Preview Program for the XB1 software updates

Yeah, weird. I guess that's how their wording it :/. Grapevine suggests this isn't some crazy Microsoft moneyhatted exclusive. Guess we'll find out soon enough!
