EA announces Subscription Service for Xbox One ($5/month or $30/year, get game vault)

Umm, isnt this standard procedures when signing up for a subscription? Things that are under a subscription normally have you sign up with an actually credit card because...well how else would they charge you on a continues basis?

Some of you have said that you have already download the app and started the service. Everywhere I look says that it is coming soon.

Can someone confirmed if you can start this service right now? I cant seem to find it on the Xbox One dashboard.

Service is available now but you need to be part of the xbox preview program i believe.

It could also have to do with how XB LIVE is built vs PSN. Last generation Harmonix was only able to do the Rock Band Network because MS was willing to work with them on it and they already had the XNA indie marketplace in place. It could be a similar thing where MS has a structure already there for pubs to do this kind of stuff. Sony has PS+ but might not have anything set up yet for outsiders to do similar things to PS+.

Well, and now we know why the "unprecedented partnership" ended so abruptly.

Who knows when Xbone owners will discover is ea's logo what they see right after turning on their console.

Chicken little is that you?

Would you say the same for PS+ or Xbox Live Gold? Same shit. Free games and discounts on games, subscription services.
Can't you buy cards in stores and redeem with MS / Sony? That way you don't have to worry about auto renewal or having your credit card number stored on their servers.

This is not MS or Sony this is EA. Go ahead and call me a fanboy or dismiss what I'm saying but EA has proven time and time again what their goals are: to squeeze more and more money out of paying customers. This will be no different. I'm not paranoid. On the contrary, I'm a realist. There is a precedent of EA shitting on their customers and I see no reason why this would be any anything other than a Trojan horse to do more of the same. There is a reason EA is and has been on my shit list for two years and it's not because they offer "value" to the customer.

For EA access? Yes, it says you can buy cards at gamestop. Not sure when.

Time will tell. As of right now its a great deal imo. For $30 I am getting three games I do not own, no longer need my BF4 disc so I could potentially sell it. And I will also get 10% off new games, not sure how thats a bad thing.

Ok, go to GameStop today and get Battlefleid 4, Madden 25 and FIFA 14. Let me know how much you spend. It should be around $120 for all three used. Yeah... no, this is a pretty good deal, you're just full of fear mongering shit.

Why is GameStop the only option? You can often buy games new cheaper than GS sells them used.

See this guys? This is just the beginning of the EA stank that's gonna be all over this. You just wait and see. It will be a cold day in hell before I "subscribe" to the company nickel and diming their customers at every opportunity. Wake up people! I can't believe you guys are falling for this.

It maybe that people believe EA knows that a subscription service for gaming is the futre and that giving out older games for $30 a year and depending on miocrotransaction for revenue is good for both players and them. It will evebn entice people who wouldn't normal spend money on their yearly update although they want to play them.

I'm interested. If they keep rolling out the newish sports title for $30 a year I'll bite when I pick up an XOne.I usually wait till Fifa hits $10 on Orgin and Madden hits $15 at GS to pick up either one, for those two and a few other games I'll pay their price.

Ok so not using GS as an example. Where can you get BF4, FIFA, Madden and Peggle for $30?

I know here in Australia I won't find BF4 under $50 anywhere, not even private sales. I can't imagine you would pick those 4 games up under $30 anywhere.

I could've sworn I read in this very thread that you will be able to purchase a year sub from Gamestop. In that case, you wouldn't need a credit card, no?

Maybe you're trying too hard here?

I don't understand why son feel the need to paint this as a negative. Is it because it's on the Xbox One only?

Ding Ding Ding. There is certainly some bias whether its Xbox or EA related I dont know. Maybe just a fear of change. Programs like this will fail if they screw people over,

PS+ is a perfect example of a similar (to some extent) type of subscription service. It was good and evolved into a great product, now many subscribe. Right now the EA service sounds like a fairly solid deal.

It's a good idea, but unless they add 360 support for the service, then it just won't be worth it. Especially since that vault is going to have pretty much nothing for its first year. Only "expired" sports titles and first person shooters whose communities have evaporated. Hell, looking at EA's upcoming release schedule for the rest of the year on the Xbox One doesn't inspire a lot of confidence for the future as well.

I am confused. I am part of the preview program, see the quest to sign up for EA Access, but can't find where to sign up?

Sheeple! Wake up! Repent for the end is nigh! They're watching you from satellites in space and reading your brain waves from the aluminum they put in your deodorant!!

I don't think I'd be in for this but it isn't a bad deal and trying new ways of selling games is okay. If people don't like it it will go away quickly.

For you guys in XBO dash preview you can subscribe now. Check your messages. They sent download codes out.

Pretty slick. Integrated into store like GwG or DwG on discounts and free games. Downloading BF4, Madden and FIFA now.

True ea still have a few older games they can put into the service though

-Plants vs zombies
-Need For Speed Rivals
-Nba Live (not that anyone would want to play it)

I fucking HATE EA, but I have to give credit here - this is going to be very popular. I might even get a month just so I can play through the BF4 single player.

If your code doesn't work, write it down and re enter it in the Xbox Store or on Xbox.com. It's messed up when you hit "redeem code" from the message.

Lol I wonder how many people that hate EA or are boycotting EA are going to sign up for this? haha going from boycott to subscription, EA really know how to sell you their crap.

Luckily I don't care much for EA games, the only ones I have bought in the last 6 years has been the Dead Space series so this is not something that appeals to me and never will. On principal alone I will never give EA another cent as I don't like their business practices and i'm sticking by it.

Good deal for those gamers that don't give a crap though and just want cheap games.

There has to be a catch though right? I mean come on, it's EA!

From the get go $30 is a fantastic value for me as I don't have FIFA or Madden currently. Hell, $30 a year to have the two best sports game to keep my roommates entertained is a pretty solid deal.

Same here. I do have BF4 that I bought cheap ($15) but I can either sell it, trade it or keep it and lend to friends in exchange for another game. The first year pretty much pays to itself right off the bat for me.

Uh... I pointed Xbox because the service is Xbox only? again, how do other consumers getting nothing makes me feel better about my "rant"?

Well you didn't say "Why isn't this being deployed elsewhere?" You instead decided to go on a "rant" about MS and Xbox.

AFAIK you can purchase access to EA's service from gamestop... doubt they will make you sign up with a credit card when it's highly likely people will pay in cash.

I have the latest preview update yet no EA access.

Did you get the mail message with the code to download the EA app? You need to have that code, it is not automatically part of the beta, this was added after the fact and they decided to let the beta testers test this, but I don't know who they decide gets the message with a code.

I am away from home on business till Friday, but I got my code, so I will be able to test this on Friday.

Why would a big publisher narrow its reach to only one platform holder?
Wouldn't it make sense to offer this service on PC/PS3 as well? More users, more money.

I said EA was giving other platforms the finger in favor of the Xbox since the service is Xbox exclusive, it's the same.

And saying that there must be a deal isn't a rant, I don't know what your point is, let's not argue about it.

Got my code and uk price actually is reasonable.

Looks like Gamestop is in panic mode over this. As they should be, their stock dropped 6%. It sounds likely that they are going to downplay the Xbox One and focus on the PS4. It makes since from a business standpoint. PS4 sells more consoles and games, and the competition has an exclusive program that eats your profit margins.

I wonder how this will play out.
