The 2011 Hunter X Hunter was just added to the U. S Netflix catalog today. It is subbed but being on Netflix could eventually lead to a dub as it actually shows that the anime has been licensed by someone.

Even if you don't usually like anime you should try this out as it is one of the best current examples on how good the format can be story wise and action wise.

Time for a re watch!

Oh sweet, as a huge fan of the manga I really want to watch this. What is five seasons up through? Yorknew? Greed Island?

5 "Seasons" so more than I thought.

Edit: It goes to the middle of the ant arc.
Interesting that they'd stop in the middle when the arc finished like a month ago. Cool nonetheless and I'm hoping this'll get my curious friend to finally check it out.

Good news for people who don't have a CR membership and don't wanna watch that shittastic non-member quality stream. Jump on it guys, it's great.

Nice, hopefully this gets more people to watch this. Its my favorite anime behind TTGL. It constantly surprises me.

I really dislike the art so far, but it seems interesting enough. In only on the second c episode, so we will see how it goes. That pinky swear song though? Classic. He capped it off at the end like Whitney Houston lol

Yesssssss. More people can experience the greatness.

It escalates, trust me.

I tried to watch episode 1, thought it was boring as hell. I remember the manga being awesome, does it really get better?

Put another way, is it better or worse than Yuyu Hakusho?

I think it is superior to YYH, and I regard that series as one of greatest battle shounen of all time. It escalates. Just give it a little time, trust me.

This is great news, thank you OP. I can finally get some of my friends to check it out. (and a rewatch on my end).

Hang on to it. It only gets better from here on out. lot better. I'm so jealous of you though, watching the series with virgin eyes.

Its probably the best anime in the past few years. Watch it people, and dont let the first few episodes fool you. It escalates quick.

What's the diff between the 2011 and the remake that's on crunchy roll?

The remake and 2011 anime are the same, and they go beyond where the original series stopped. It has covered 5 arcs of HxH so far.

Everyone needs to watch this series. The Yorknew City arc (3rd season) is probably my favorite.

Is this better than the 2002 OVA series? I really enjoyed that series until it suddenly ended at Greed Island with some
quiz
.

I liked the series up until the ant arc.
I liked the pacing, the buildup and intrigue around the Phantom troupe. The video game for hunters. The characters slowly are getting stronger mastering abilities and gaining a deeper understanding of nen. Then Ants. They eat humans, animals etc. Basically innately know how to use nen from past memories of the people who were eaten or some bullshit. The higher level ants are super powerful. Some super Saiyan deus ex machina crap apparently happens with Gon when he fights the king, then he loses his arm and goes into a coma or something? But luckily Killua's sister is able to grant wishes with her ability or some shit... I don't know I stopped watching after the show got too shonen for me to handle.
I really don't understand why they broke their pacing so much for the ant ark, did they lose a bunch of viewership or something? Decided they needed to accelerate the characters development through a non sequitur ark?

double post
I'm on ep 5, and it's definitely getting much better. I think I'll stick around for a bit longer and see what happens! One thing this show could use is some better sound design and composition. The music does very little to enhance or create a real mood or atmosphere. It's a good show so far though.

LMAO, this dude has a club that doubles as a blow dart, and rocks afro puffs.

I know it's not cool to quote a Wiki page, but apparently it has a dub already from Ocean Group?

What are the chances of HxH (2011) ever getting a physical release like bluray in the west? I would absolutely kill for a boxset of this if it can ever happen.

... How the hell did you misinterpret what happened at the end of that arc so much? Especially to say that the Chimera Ant arc is too shonen when (arc ending spoilers)
such a large amount of time is spent with characters trying to trick each other through conversation only, Gon's power-up only serves to kill one of the side villains and that entire section showed how Gon's shonen hero behavior can lead him to do really messed up things, and three of the villains (including the main one) die to radiation poisoning from a nuke of all things instead of by the hand of any of the main characters
, I can only imagine you saw a video of the ending of the fight and heard what happens later.

EDIT:

That would be the original series (1999), not this remake. I hear that dub isn't good anyway.

Hunter X Hunter is the least shonen out of all shonen mangas out there.
I won't say Gon's Super Saiyan mode is a deus ex machina since there was severe repercussions in the end. It's not like he can revert to that at will.

that arc also ended in the least shonen way possible.

Best anime out there. Togashi can do know wrong. Watched the episode where Leorio bets the girl is a guy in the Hunter Exams for laughs.

Awesome - I've wanted to get into HxH but loathe Crunchyroll, so never really had the chance. Maybe now I'll be able to make sense of what's happening in the current storyline...

Like I said I didn't watch until the end. So I probably shouldn't of commented on the ending etc.
But the stuff with the sister? I don't know, the whole arc felt completely unecessary to me. I feel like it detracts from everything that came before it. It just spits in the face of what I liked about the show, which was the slow and deliberate increase in skill/power of the characters In it. Most of the important characters who had "mastered" nen really felt like they had earned it. The ants just got it to make them strong baddies. I really don't see the redeeming qualities of the ark as compared to the previous arks. You could remove that entire ark, have a montage of Gon and Killua training and Gon gets hurt in a freak accident and almost start where the show is currently no?

Not really, no. (And dude, spoiler that)

It seems that the problem is that
you are solely looking at the power levels of the characters, when there's more to the show than that. Think about what the current arc is doing with Killua's character, for instance.
