So what are the really cool elements of this show that apparently makes it so awesome? I've got Netflix and I've heard some good things, but I've never really heard specific mention of what's so specifically great about the show, and given that some people suggest it gets better further in it'd be cool to get an idea of what to look forward to if I decide to go in for a binge.

It plays on typical shonen tropes and gives them a unique twist. Be it characters, fighting system or storytelling.
And the pacing is outstanding. Next to no filler episodes devoid of plot ala One Piece or Bleach.

Also: How much fan service and violence can I expect? Usually don’t have a problem with either, but after finishing off No Game No Life and Attack on Titan recently, I could use something with a little less of both.

HxH has practically no fanservice. Can't really think of any instances. It does get pretty dark and violent though, but nothing too bad.

Did anyone else find the Greed Island Arc disappointing? I didn't care for the villain; he seemed two-dimensional, evil because the arc needed a villain. It also didn't make sense why Gon had to fight him: Bisky had a much better chance of winning.

The show severely drops off for me after the Yorknew arc, which is a contrary opinion to the majority of the community it seems. The only bits of Greed Island that I enjoyed was when they finally reached
Razor's dodgeball challenge
. Other than that, the explanation of the newfound world and game system seemed tedious. I also agree that the villain was very plain and boring. But one could also argue that this arc was hardly about the villain. This one was more about the adventure of the game itself. Throw in a boss fight at the end for why-the-hell-not reasons.

I just really want to see more of the Phantom Troupe.

The power up system is the biggest for me. There is very little power creep for the sake of power creep, and someone who was competent when they were first introduced will continue to be competent and a force to be reckoned with throughout the entire series.

Greed Island ended up as tedious as the Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh Mangas/Shows it was goofing on, in the end.

I'm not up-to-date on the manga, but he seemed like a one time villian, contrary to the preceding main arc villains (Hisoka, Killua's family and the Phantom Troupe). This makes him especially lame.

Someone on GAF has said before how HxH is the least shonen anime, but I still noticed some similarities. Why does each one need a type of "chi"? Of course there's the master/disciple training parts. Palm's strange love for an underaged Gon reminded me of Luffy and Hancock (but more creepy). I do appreciated how it's not nearly as heavy-handed as One Piece (which became too much for me by Fisherman Island). I'm guessing there's a timeskip later from scanning the wiki.

I'm glad they rebooted the series. By pulling a Kai they've made it even better than the first series which I liked. Now I've watched all the episodes on Netflix. This is the first anime I've watched in ages. Now to find the remaining episodes.

So I ended up cramming all the episodes on Netflix over the past week while I stayed home from work with back problems...

My question to everyone is how far behind is Netflix to what's actually airing on TV. Im completely caught up on Netlflix but where it left off has me dying to see more episodes. If where I am is where season 5 left off......that's a shitty way to end a season.

You're up to about episode 100, of 141. Crunchyroll has it for free, but you'll have deal with shitty quality without a membership.

This, but if you're going to be marathoning the episodes, you may be able to get a free trial fir premium membership with Crunchyroll and watch all of them in great quality within that duration. You'll only have 2 episodes left in the series when the trial ends (there are only 4 episodes left, the trial is 2 weeks long)

Necro bump.

Just watched it all on Netflix, the subs, I have to say, are really good, they even translate most of the text that appears on screen in a non-invasive way. It kinda makes me mad that the episodes stop just in the middle of the Chimera Arc and right before one of my favorite episodes, I hope Netflix has plans to get the rest.

I heard the rest is on crunchyroll, so I might get on that, even if I prefer the way Netflix works better.

Same, just wrapped it up a couple of days ago, then proceeded to read the manga where the anime ended. Now I have to see Cat chick
get her shit wrecked by adult Gon.
