No offense to anyone, I found it hilarious when people are trying to make the decisions who should stays or goes in fake rosters. Who do you think you are? Masahiro Sakurai?

If you turn off the lights, stand with your back to a mirror and say "Masahiro Sakurai" three times, he will whisper the next cut character. That or steal your youth, its one of them.

It is a bit of one, but he's so similar to other current reps visually that he'd be really, really low down on my "franchises that don't have a playable rep yet" list.

Xenoblade is like nothing currently represented in the Smash roster. Shulk alone would bring lot of Xenoblade content.

It's okay if you don't like him, but I find it that your main reason for not wanting Shulk in, to be cause he he looks "anime" and aesthetically similar to the FE characters/Palutena to be really shallow.

I'm glad that Waluigi and Tingle are assist trophies! :) Spare me the headaches with people crying for Waluigi become a playable character. :)

you guys are lying to yourselves you'd buy these games no matter what the rosters were like

entitlement is in overdrive when someone mentions the right to add into fake rosters because they're expected to pay for the game

No, we are customers who are expected to pay £40ish for a video-game and should be allowed our own opinion on who should be in the roster.

We are speculating and playing around, not demanding.

Who do you think you are? Masahiro Sakurai?

For Bolded statement,

Remove Shulk and we're good.

Of course, Dark Pit has to go also.

Also the dog, and Chorus Kids.

I don't see any speculation in both quotes since I felt that the comments that you made came off as demands.

I'm not just talking about NeoGAF since I'm speaking about Smash Community itself. I'm talking about the people who like to changed other people's wish lists or fake rosters. They can't grasp the concept that people would have their own wish lists because of their opinions and their attachment with the characters.

Roster would have to be...Sony All Star bad for me to even consider not buying Smash.

Shulk looks nothing like any of the existing Smash Bros. characters. What a bizarre complaint.

Yeah, there are no other humanoid characters with sword in smash bros.

One thing that is true is that there aren't any that look as boring as he does, I guess that would be what makes him unique?

It's okay if you don't like him, but I find it that your main reason for not wanting Shulk in, to be cause he he looks "anime" and aesthetically similar to the FE characters/Palutena to be really shallow.

That's fair to say, I just don't get how people could look at him and say "Yep, this is a visually interesting design that will bring a lot to the smash bros. cast".

I can understand wanting Xenoblade items, stages and music in smash, but I'll never understand wanting Shulk in smash.

It's really damn hard to say, but again, he has arguably the biggest potential for technical tricks next to Rosalina & Luma. Because of his odd playstyle, relying so largely on projectiles, he has a fairly odd learning curve, so you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone who played as him in the demos that found him good. It'll take until the games out and we know his tricks to see what he can do.

I kinda wonder if he can use the leaf shield like a shine upon activation.

It would be nice but I doubt it. It activates slowly, creating 4 leaves around him one by one before they actually start spinning. Its yet to be determined if they have a hurtbox as soon as they are spawned or only when they start circling around him. Either way the startup animation is too slow to kinda wanna use it effectively as a shine.

because he has an energy sword that can warp reality

is there some part of this that is hard to understand or something

Shulk isn't dressed old timey though, he looks more post FF7 SE ish and doesn't look like any other character in SSB. If you want to argue not having another sword character that's fine but as far as pure looks go he's pretty unique.

You're not allowed to do that.

Intelliheath doesn't permit this action.

Sound like you are quite upset about my comments since I didn't say anything about me not permitting this action. I'm saying that I found the notions hilarious because people need to correct other people's lists because they don't like to see what they are seeing.

SuperSah, please stop twisting other people's words to fit what you would like to see.

So you think Link looks like Marth? Alright.

No, but in terms of smash archetypes the role has already been filled, and filled, and filled and filled.

If the sword is supposed to be the most interesting aspect of his design, then he's not a very interesting character to me, the sword doesn't even look that good, anyway.

let it slide, he's just a kid

Everyone spending time arguing about characters is what fuels his youth. That is the true reason he is ambiguous about Ridley.
Just wait for Anthony Higgs trailer with Ridley unexplained appearance in the end.

Sakurai will become immortal just minutes after it is released

I don't see what "archetypes" have to do with Shulk looking like any of the other characters. And even then, Link, Meta Knight, and the Fire Emblem characters use traditional metal swords, but Shulk wields a futuristic sci-fi laser sword imbued with magical powers. The Monado doesn't look like the other swords, and it doesn't function like them either.

Shulk has FANTASTIC potential as a character in regards to a potential move set, one just as varied as Link and far more interesting than Marth and his clones. Hell Shulk is closer to Robin than Marth/Ike/Roy/Lucina.

Shulk could easily become one of the most interesting newcomers. WFT has a move that buffs her slightly. Other than his projectile and recovery, Shulk could just focus on buffing himself or debuffing his enemies.

Maybe if/when I see him in smash I might like it a bit more, but looking at his design and thinking about all the other human newcomers we've had without any quadrupedal characters, vehicle-based characters or characters that float, I'm uninterested.

If the monado is supposed to be the one good thing about him it would be better as an item/make Shulk an assist.

Wait, there are people out there who seriously bolieve that Dark Pit is a separate character???

I can understand those who think he might be a boss (he isn't, he's a Pit skin) but isn't the Palutena and Lucina videos basically proof that he isn't.

Exactly. The Monado just happens to be a sword, but that's like the least important thing about it. In Xenoblade, yes Shulk auto-attacks with it, but the appeal of the monado is the power it contains from the buster, speed, shield, and the ability to reshape one's destiny. It could have been a wand or a gun. I wonder if it were shaped as something else if people would feel differently or if it's simply because they just see it as a sword and don't want another character with a sword?

The Monado is no different from a regular every day sword. Being a LAZERSWORDZOMGWTFBBQ doesn't make it special. And yes I beat Xenoblade all 60 hours of it. The Monados only special abilities are shoot a beam, super extend, and that aura burst thing called cyclone other than that its just swinging a sword.

ok

edit: goddammit

I am pretty sure that when people make posts like that its just a short way to say

"change x for y and that would be my roster"

I mean do you really expect people to have to photoshop or list the ENTIRE thing every time they want to talk about their wishlist roster :p? It's easier to just namedrop the few changes if someone else already did most of the work.

Yeah, there are no other humanoid characters with sword in smash bros.

I can understand wanting Xenoblade items, stages and music in smash, but I'll never understand wanting Shulk in smash.

I mean I also don't understand this perspective either, I think King K. Rool is one of the worst designed characters ever, but I am not opposed to him being in Smash.

Shulk's design is inoffensive, it works better with his Game's artwork, but I don't really think it's bland.

And he has a lot of Moveset potential including stuff like seeing the future (possible final smash) buff/debuffs to himself/enemies, location-placed attacks (think Nosferatu hitting for more damage if hit from the back), chain attacks, or even a stance-based moveset.

Wait, there are people out there who seriously bolieve that Dark Pit is a separate character???

I can understand those who think he might be a boss (he isn't, he's a Pit skin) but isn't the Palutena and Lucina videos basically proof that he isn't.

The Lucina video and subsequent posts are actually what made me think he has a chance of being a separate character. They showed that 1) new "clones" are a thing in this game, and 2) any version of a character that is mechanically different gets its own slot. That said, a boss appearance is probably more likely, but who knows?

Ok, well ignoring the fact that the Monado
belonged to a God and it's wielder essentially becomes a God that can reshape the entire universe
it is certainly not just a simple sword.

Unless outright stated, there is no proof with Sakurai.

No because G&W was also in a video but he hasn't been officially revealed.

Though I do think he will be an alt color, maybe with a different voice and other non-moveset changes.

I'd bet almost anything that he's like male/female robin. A VA and slight model change.

1. He didn't get a character x joins the fight like Lucina did.
2. He's in the video with his VA intact in a video featuring only playable characters.
3. Game and Watch is a returning character!

No, but in terms of smash archetypes the role has already been filled, and filled, and filled and filled.

I'm not a fan of this idea that because X character does Y, that Y can't be further explored or expanded upon. It's a mentality I run into all the time as casual Smash fans believe the continued additions of combatants using/representing/expanding on Y (in this case sword using fighters) either intudes upon "muh unique/muh quirky" potential entrants or oversaturates the roster.

The solution to the desire to see more than swords people or whatever else in the roster isn't to go "no more swords", it's to go "can we have more pole users/axe users/gun users/magicians/etc".

Isn't Game and Watch a good argument against this, though? Like Dark Pit, he's a character shown in a reveal trailer who didn't get officially unveiled on the official site as a playable character and hasn't been shown since. If anything, I think it's more likely that they're both unlockable characters.

Pit and Dark Pit VA (in uprising) are the same person.

I will say that if Dark Pit was in I think he would've got a splash screen, because I think every newcomer will have an intro like that. Him not having one could've been Sakurai wanting to hint at/highlight him as an alt but not a full newcomer.

That doesn't sound like a moveset to me.

You're right it is not. but that's not exactly what you said.

Buster: powerful attack with a larger blade. Deals double the damage to Mechon and Machina.
Enchant: strengthens the weapons of the party. Allows normal weapons to damage Mechon.
Shield: generates a barrier that protects the party from enemy talent arts of the same level or lower.
Speed: gives the target a greater chance to dodge physical attacks.
Purge: ranged ether blast that inflicts Aura Seal and nullifies Spike effects.
Armour: reduces physical and ether damage taken. Percentage (30%-75%) depends on this Art's level.
Cyclone: damages all enemies around the user and inflicts topple on enemies suffering from break.
Eater: strips away enemy buffs and causes bleed damage in a frontal cone.

Add ability to see the future as well.

You say it's just a simple sword. Seems like a lot more potential for a moveset than swinging and jabbing to me
