Digimon Adventure new series, featuring Taichi premièring in 2015

Frontier biggest faults were that they took away the established evolution system (child->adult->perfect->ultimate), and had a really weak supporting cast in Junpei, Tomoki and Izumi. On the other hand. Takuya and Koji were a really good duo. One of the best in Digimon.

Other than that, I thought it had an awesome prequel story that sets up the Digimon World, an awesome set of villains, and had a nice brother story to boot.
Remember the kids that saved the digworld before Taichi and the rest? I think it might have been the Frontier cast.

I totally agree with you. And that theory is pretty amazing. I've heard it years ago.

You know, I never thought of this before. They didn't say specifically that those Chosen Children had partners, did they? Also, the title "Frontier" would make more sense with it. Then I thought how Frontier's human world was also a modern day look, but that makes sense too with the time difference in the Digital World and the real world.

Matt is better than Tai.

Ha ha nope, Taichi is the better man to the point where he came back from the Real World to bring the gang together, after they disbanded when he left the digital word.

I never heard of that theory, though doesn't Xros Wars Young Hunters shoot that theory down?

I haven't watched any of Xross series. My main reasoning behind Frontier being a prequel was because the 10 ancient spirits that sealed Lucemon were the origins of most digimon monsters.

I think that was the original idea of Frontier, but was dropped. At least I definitely recall rumors about it featuring the original Digidestined.

But I think the reference to that in Adventures was sort of a throwaway line ultimately, and they just recycled the shadows of the main cast/Digimon because they were never planning to expand on it.

I actually liked Digimon Frontier too, the turning into Digimon was neat to kid-me...I mean, who wouldn't want to transform into a super being? I think it may have been better received if they borrowed the idea of the Mega Digivolution in Tamers, and gave the Frontier Kids Digimon, and had them fuse with them. That way we get partners, plus the kids take an active role.

Oh yeah, remember those other kids in Frontier? The ones who bullied Tommy or whatever?

I remember everyone swore they were going to become the new holders of the other Digital Spirits, because it FIT. There was four of them, and one girl, so it worked with the Spirits of Wood/Steel/Water/Earth.

That definitely seemed like a "we ran out of time!" moment.

Also was pissed the card game had Hybrid Spirits for the other Digidestined that never appeared in the show.

They should have definitely shown the other hybrid spirits. To think characters like Junpei achieved their final evolution of the show by episode 14 of 50!!!

Anyway, I stumbled on some really nice official art. Digimon Adventure DVD sets (Japan):

Tai's not even trying to run and Matt still has to try hard to keep up WOW

That part always bugged me since they never appeared not even during Zero Two. Who where those kids and why did they do such a crappy job leaving the Adventure Kids to fix their mistake?

At least Frontier had a kick-ass theme tune.

also who was chatting shit about the Tamers theme, I will cut you so hard

Adventure, Zero Two and Tamers English theme suucks, the Japanese one are far superiors.

Really love these.

Aw sweet those looks pretty cool, I hope this get an English release but with Japanese audio and English subbed.

I totally watched (some of) Digmon Tamers as a kid but I couldn't remember the German OP theme for the life of me. Listened to it now and it was kinda forgettable, not a good cover. JP wins that one.

For me, Adventure and Tamers had the best Opening songs.

"Butter-Fly" for the classic all-round FEELZ which suits it's adventurous theme, and "The Biggest Dreamer" for that edgy rock which fits it's slightly darker tone.

Frontier was were I lost interest in Digimon. With a new cast/story I just thought to myself 'oh they are rebooting it again' especially since the ending of Tamers left it open for another season. Plus the lack of partners was terrible.

I do remember liking the mythology just not the execution

Tamers was just so fucking good. Adventure is fine and all, but the last 15 or so episodes of Tamers are the best Digimon has been.

I haven't seen Xcross, but

Tamers > Adventure > Data Squad > 02 > Frontier

Weirdly, 02 actually felt more cohesive by the end, which largely is the issue with most Digimon seasons.

EDIT: The most frustrating thing about Frontier is how interesting the world it set up was. And it really felt like it shortchanged the female cast, a lot more so than any other season.

I love how nice and clean the artwork looks on these.

The only thing I remember about Frontier was the overweight kid having a crush on Zoey. They get to a ladder and the overweight kid offers Zoe to go first. She tells him she's wearing a skirt, then slaps him.

Probably the best moment in the show, and the only one worth remembering.

Hopefully they'll make it so that all the kids are useful and not just depend on Matt/Tai and that cheating Angemon.

That stupid trope of only two of them getting megas needs to die.

The only thing I liked about Frontier was Lucemon. Kickass Villain.

Currently watching Tamers on Netflix.

Data Squad is awesome

Adventure 01 will always remain my favorite.

02...I liked the first arc with the Digimon Emperor. But after that it totally went to shit...

This is what I hope a future Digimon season would do.

Re watching Adventure 01 and I'm almost halfway through. Really looking forward to the Dark Masters and 02.

Man, I hope the Vita game makes it over.

Why do people hate Frontiers so much? Apart from only two characters getting more digivolutions, it had one of the more interesting concepts in the series (people turning into digimons).
For me it's because having a partner was integral to the story. Two worlds coming together and fighting together. That and the digimon in their party never really did anything and were super annoying.

Instead of digimon saving digimon with the help of humans it became another "humans are the best, yo!" story.

Magnamon is the only one worth using still, heck Daisuke even used him for a moment in the Xros Wars.

And for good reason: Magnamon's still a Royal Knight.

For that matter, I like the fact that V-mon has no less than 3 separate entrants that are Royal Knight material: AlforceVeedramon, Magnamon and Imperialdramon Paladin Mode.

For the most part, I'm #TeamWargreymon, but I have to admit that V-mon is probably the Digimon partner you should get with if you want one that's on Rockman X-levels of having an answer for practically EVERYTHING.

Anyone have a pic of the original kids? I thought they showed up in adventures movie 2, when the rocket was crashing towards the river :x

Please give Seraphimon more screen time. That warp digivolve in the movie just to release the golden digi-egg was pathetic.

Need more mega digivolutions of the others as well.

How did I miss this?

I'm in tears of joy. I just finished watching the 1st season again and will be watching season 2, when I'm back from vacation. Perfect timing, I would say. Hope it will be good.

I remember recently rewatching the first two seasons and thinking it felt really childish compared to Tamers. Season 3 was honestly the best.

After that it kind of all went downhill. Hopefully this new season is actually good (and gets localized in North America).

Visual style is what I'm interested in the most at the moment. I need the show to not look like generic garbage (e.g. Data Squad looks borderline atrocious, imo).

WAIT WHAT!
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!

Hope is the whole group and not only Tai.

We know how this characters ended so I wonder what are they going to do with them being 17 years old. Isn't the original group like 15-16 in Digimon 02?

Mimi with old hair and cowboy outfit back please!

EDIT
Taichi was 14 during 02. In this series he will be 17.

Oh man, this is going to be good!

From several Japanese articles, it does sound like it's the whole group. More info coming when the egg opens.

Omg dem feels. No seriously, I had goosbumps watching the video from the main website.

Butter-fly is a given but I really hope we get Brave Heart also for the evolutions.

Yeah, the video from the website also features the whole group. Im so excited!

I was 12-13 years old when I watched Digimon. Now im 26 and im just as excited.

This and the soundtrack are what are worrying me. I obviously am not expecting Attack on Titan quality, but hopefully its a step up from Digimon Hunters. Look at this shit:

The person responsible for episode 34 of tamers needs to make a comeback:

Episode 21 of adventure was really well done, but it was a one episode thing. I don't think the new show will anything as good as this:
