These announcers are great. "Does this game mean anything? Nope."

ESPN must be loving them.
In all fairness I can't even think of an angle to play this game up, even a measuring stick for the MLS or anything. It's a cool moneymaking opportunity for everyone involved and that's it.

Completely. You just never hear that sort of brutal honesty.

WTF is up with the field? Weird black dirt or something is kicking up everywhere. Like massive amounts. Yep, nasty artificial crap it looks like.

Edit: Damn good goal.

I used to play American football on one of those rubber tire artificial fields and they're fucking.... awesome. Easy to run on, maintain. Only problem is those tire shavings get stuck to your shoes and socks.

This is gonna get embarrassing. Strange to see so much support for the MLS Allstars. When I saw United play them in 2011 at Red Bull Arena, there was no one cheering for them.

To be fair, they'd say the same thing about every sport's All-Star game here in the US. MLB started to make the winning league get home field advantage for the World Series so it actually is pretty important but all of the others are solely seen as an exhibition.

Absolutely insane goal by Lewa.

Tbh even the games are bad image wise for the MLS. Buncha starters cobbled together in a makeshift ass team playing some Euro 2nd team, when some of these dudes got games coming up in their season and are flying cross country and shit.

I'm not saying transatlantic friendlies are worthless, cause I watch them, but they are dumb.

I'd rather watch a game between the best of the western and eastern MLS conferences, same way America does with every other sport.

A couple of Russian teams play on turf but that's because they're in the middle of Siberia and the weather is awful. This is Portland though...inexcusable.

For what it's worth, the Timbers announced that they are switching to a grass field as soon as 2016.

The black tire crap gets in your socks and shoes and is super uncomfortable.

It's particularly strange to see it in Portland where they get so much rain. Maintaining grass wouldn't be difficult.

The ball also runs a lot faster on turf. In high school we played a rich private school who had a turf field and they thrashed us on their home field like 6-1 but when they played us on our home grass field we beat them 3-0.

They also make it more likely for players to sustain impact injuries.

San Lorenzo or Bayern...you decide.

Im on the fence with these games.

Part of me wants to see East vs. West..

Part of me enjoys the "show" of a top Euro club..

But people then then a few jerks will bash the league if our team of mid-talent guys, who never play together, get slaughtered by a muti-muti-million dollars club of some of the best players in the world..

I did get too watch us beat Chelsea in 2012, that was nice :)

Now that's a proper m8 right there
