Ryse Son of Rome coming to PC this fall [no port begging other games]

It's probably not a game I would have bought when I eventually get an Xbox One but I have to admit that I will probably be tempted to buy this version just to push my PC to it's limits. It's going to be the best looking game out there bar none.

This is what happens when a console manufacturer (MS) relies on external studios to make games for their platform. Had they owned the studio and subsequently the ip, there's no way this would come to PC.

Anyhow Crytek need all the income they can get so porting it to PC for a little more sales now the exclusivity period is over is a no-brainer.

I think it has more to do with MS being DX and having a large market there, than any contract MS is allowing with devs. Shareholders want profits and not releasing an already baked IP on your other huge marketplace is not going to sit well.

Its just the reality of Microsoft being a PC / desktop focused company that runs the DX library most games runs on. Shareholders aren't stupid and they're not gonna be happy when they could increase sales by 40-60% with the flip of a DRM switch.

So the console, like their last consoles, get a lot of timed exclusives as to not undercut their appeal. But in the end, they'll open a lot of their games HP to their other marketplaces.

Many people are hoping Sony actually follows suit with PSNow. The future is being able to play a IP on any device, through an app licensed by the publisher geared to the largest audience across multiple platforms.

I don't see how people even begin to think these things.

1. KI is a Rare IP, MS owns Rare, therefore KI is a MS IP.
2. Crytek owns Ryse, and MS has absolutely nothing to do with Ryse being on PC.

If this was an announcement about a MS owned property appearing on PC published by MS; I could see how everyone these last 4 pages have been jumping to these crazy conclusions.

For what? He has nothing to do with this either.

Publishing contracts. Granted it is not the same as owning IP, MS used to have pretty tight publishing contracts. Reason why the original mass effect was never released on PS3 outside of a packaged trilogy. Reason why Gears never graced the PS3 despite epic owning the IP.

It has been less than a year and we have had DR3 and Ryse see official announcements for release on PC. That with the rumor of the Halo collection going to PC, just all seems plausible.

I don't expect titles like Sunset Overdrive to ever come to PC but like last generation maybe the Remedy developed Quantum Break will. Speculation of course but one with an eye looking at the past.

I bought Mass Effect 1 on PS3 separately. Granted it was download only, but it was definitely separate.

Option 1: MS doesn't care XO games go to PC = XO has no exclusives.

Option 2: MS doesn't let XO games go to PC = MS is killing PC gaming.

MS just can't win here can they?

You learn in life you can't please everyone.

Some people are crazy.

It's no longer exclusive and it's still getting praise, and that will happen on PC, too, because the game, especially combat, is damn good. I think anyone claiming the game is garbage couldn't have seriously played it, or played on one of the easy levels.

Even the dumb QTE fest complaints that you normally hear, you can play through this entire game without using a single QTE, save for the opening moments of the game where they're teaching you about the execution system, and the game's end segment.

We get that you love the game but an average review score in the 6/10 range points to it being a pile a poop.

That's especially true if you believe (as I do) that reviewers overscore games in general. So for something to get these scores, it must be pretty bad.

This game is gonna kick the shit out of PC's this fall. Can't wait to see the videos at 1080 and 4k down sampled.

Some might consider it average or mediocre but it's not bad. Nothing broken about it. Personally, I enjoyed it for what it was.

Are you honestly implying that PC gaming is depending on Microsoft published games? Are you high?

MS has nothing to do with this people.

and that is the real problem.

the lack of first party studios and IP's was an issue for MS and the 360 during it's last 3-4 years, what they should have done during those years is invest in studios instead of third party deals. I knew from the moment those third party exclusives were announced that they would eventually make it over to other platforms, it was only a matter of time.

Dead Rising 3
Plants VS Zombies: GW
RYSE
Peggle 2 (probably)

So this was a timed console exclusive like DR3?

Oh my it's is going to look amazing on PC. Wish I had a PC to experience it :(

ALL HAIL Phil Spencer

For what?

Weird, on the one hand I like that it is coming to a platform I own, on the other hand it is 1 less reason to buy a Xbone which I was getting warmed up to. Now if that Amazon listing of Halo MCC PC happens to be true I will not be able to justify buying the console anytime soon.

Either Crytek needs all the money they can get or MS was more serious about supporting PC gaming
It will look insane on PC tho, can't wait to see some ingame stuff

Xbox one fans shouldn't even be mad tbh, thus game deserves to be played in all its unlimited glory, at least now the extreme hate for this game can subside now an everyone will see why a lot of us enjoyed it

So Crytek are publishing the digital version and Deep Silver publishing the retail version.

Do you think Insomniac could do the same and publish on PS4?

If there is nothing in the contract that is.

I'm guessing MS had a renewal clause come up and opted out which released the IP to Crytek to self publish on PC.

Either that or MS agreed to it. Remedy asked MS if they could port Alan Wake to PC and they said yes but MS didn't publish it, nor did they publish State of Decay Steam even though they own it so perhaps they just said yes but we're not going to do it, or something

Haha, goddamn I was already sceptical about true exclusives on XBO after what happened with 360 but I didn't expect it to happen this fast. Less than a year and we already have/are getting DR3+Ryse and rumours about MCC. Good for me since I don't own a xone. Will check out when reasonably priced since Ryse seems to be a little dividing.

I'm guessing not.

I'm also guessing that MS doesn't have identical contracts for all of it's games.

Also, no port begging.

The game is awesome. I am hoping this may even sale enough for crytek or done one to continue this into a series.

...so do I still need to buy an Xbox One if I have a PC?

Anyway, looks like I'll get to play this now. Hopefully my PC will be able to handle it, I don't even mind if it's 30fps. Should look great running through on my TV!

Next gen tips:

1º - Buy a PS4 for Multiplat + third party exclusives + First party exclusives.

2º - Buy a WiiU for First party exclusives.

3º - Buy a good GPU for your PC(you have a PC right?) and then double dip the multiplats when summer sale starts to enjoy the ultra graphics/framerate/resolution/mods and,of course, wait for Xone "exclusives" to come out on PC.

4º - Don't buy a Xone! you already have all the games.

Interesting, I wonder if this has anything to do with Xbone being behind in sales behind the PS4 and devs wanting to get more money. Cool trend if it continues. This isn't really making me want/need a Xbone though.

I think its going to be the opposite. Now that its not exclusive it wont get the praise from the xbox defenders. The game is seriously garbage. More people experiencing it just means more people disappointed that the gameplay nowhere near matches how good the game looks.

I have an xb1 and a PC that wouldn't be able to run it

I'm happy about this announcement I want it to sell well, awesome game

And would love a sequel

I can't imagine these once-exclusive Xbox One games coming to the PC is actually good for future Xbox One sales. It doesn't exactly spur you to buy a system does it.
