Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

What information is this corocoro thing going to have on already announced characters anyway?

We could still see stuff like unannounced stages, custom moves and final smashes.

They have the Internet is Wales!?

Better internet than Blackpool.

I've just thought, I might actually be forced to play a lot of Lucina, Palutena and Mii just so that I know everything about the characters and thus never have to lose to them, I've never been one of those "Oh man I lost to Jigglypuff?" or "How did I lose to fucking Peach?" types of people that you hear about, but I can definitely imagine being annoyed at losing to shit characters like those three in this game.

Yeah it's true but that's not necessarily the main issue with ICs, Nana's AI is more complex than luma or pikmin.

Also G&W isn't 2D if that's what you were saying, he's a flattened 3D model, he probably does still have one of the lowest polycounts though.
I was just meaning because he has a lot of flat space that can be represented by fewer polygons. Other undetailed characters like Kirby are more rounded so they seem like they would have more.

Four times Zelda-Sheik lags like crazy when they transform. Same with Zelda-Sheik and Pokemon Trainer in Brawl.

Ice Climbers lag more consistently though.
I don't think it's likely that they'll be cut. But I think it is plausible.

How many people use them, anyway? I have only seen competitive players use Icees. If their inclusion is challenging, it's understandable if they're cut, replaced, or redesigned.

I could check right now, one sec.

Verdict:
Game and Watch has the least

My sister loves playing them because she thinks they're super cute. I also see them picked occasionally by other people.
Granted, they're not super popular like Link or Pikachu, but still, it's not like nobody ever plays them either.

Ice Climbers are not that unpopular; I saw them more often among casual players than Yoshi or Mario.

Kirby is by far the most popular character among casual players though. Seriously, find four random people to play a game of Smash and I almost guarantee at least one of them will pick Kirby.
Dude, there were some people that speculated that Samus was removed. I'm not saying that that's not ridiculous but sometimes it's nice to just have your fears put at ease.
Oh God, I remember when people seriously tried to argue that Samus was gone because she lost her armor to become Zero Suit Samus in the trailer.

Sheik wasn't new in Brawl. Was there any chance of her getting removed? ...

It was still new information regardless, I'm sure people would like get some info on vets anyway if not for the off chance to see if they had any of their moves changed or just for simply seeing how they look in this game.

Yeah I've noticed that too, though I can see the appeal. He's fairly easy to play all things considered - his moveset is pretty straight forward, he can fly, and doesn't have any complicated mechanics. Plus people just love the stone.

Kirby, Pikachu, Link are the most popular in any game, in that order.

Then Roy in Melee and Ike in Brawl

If they cut Ice Climber they should replace them with another retro character. But who? Who is a single character with an NES game that has a unique and diverse move set? It needs to be something we haven't seen before. Perhaps... a samurai! Yes that's different! But who meets these requirements? WHO?

You can almost fight casual Kirby play by sound alone *puff, puff, puff, puff....WHOMP*

Duck Hunt Dog, ExciteBiker, Famicom Wars rep, Nintendo Sports rep, Sukapon, Mach Rider...

Wow, what a weird PotD... it was so early and I can't tell if it's supposed to be a soft confirm or disconfirm for Meta Knight. It could really be read both ways. Oh, Sakurai...

And geez, are we talking about cutting the Ice Climbers again now? Hell no, they represent a completely unique moveset and they've got a ton of charm to boot. Ice Climbers need to stay. Well, everyone does ideally, but (sadly) Lucas and Wolf are a lot more expendable than they are because of their clone-ish movesets.

Brawl leak one revealed Sheik a few days before she was officially revealed on the Dojo.

But CoroCoro didn't reveal Sheik. It was Famitsu that revealed Sheik.

Ice Climbers have more polygons and Nana has her own AI. They're not equivalent. That said, I still think they're in. Worst case, they're replaced by Chorus Kids.
I remember a polygon analysis from some days ago, Popo and Nana together have less polygons than many other characters. The 3DS isn't that weak, I think we're over-analyzing the comment.

Again, I'm fairly certain that "multi character combatants" is in reference to transformations, and the author of the article just added the Ice Climbers as an example himself, not from Sakurai's answers.

Given the fact how inconsistent they were in Brawl with it, it seems likely that is the case. Transforming Zelda to Sheik or between the 3 PT Pokemon had a loading time that was random, and partially dependent on the Wii system you used (specifically, how fast it could read the data from the disc). And Melee also had similar issues if I recall correctly. And would you look at that, transformations have been axed.

As you say, the 3DS is surprisingly powerful, and I'm sure it can render 4 characters with 4 low level CPUs at the same time. This is especially true given the enormity of SmashRun, with its many CPU-controlled enemies and bosses.

Giga Bowser is essentially a character transformation and that's still there.

Though admittedly the transformation sequence did cause that one glitch in the 3DS tournament...

It's also limited to one on screen at any given times, and only if a Bowser breaks the Smashball if one is even in play. It's not an at-will transformation that can be done by 4 players at the same time.

I still don't know why people are so quick to cut Lucas and Wolf from the game when Toon Link already happened.

I would imagine that Toon Link is pretty high on Priority List but I really hope that you are right there. For me, I wouldn't be confident enough with any characters being 100% in due to the fact that it could happens again after what happens with Mewtwo and Roy.

They're just low priority compared to a lot of the veterans. It's not about them being "clones." Keep in mind that they are safer than Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Snake, who have completely original movesets.

The NES needs its champion.

The Urban Champion!

Sakurai wanted to add Wolf since Smash 64. In don't think that in his eyes, Wolf is lower priority than other characters. I think it's more likely that Falco would get the axe than Wolf, if one of the Star Fox characters would have to be cut.

I still don't consider any character from Brawl to be expendable enough to be removed from the roster.

People change their minds, we'll see. He wanted to add Mewtwo in Smash 64 as well.

The Japanese fandom is equally annoyed about lack of CoroCoro Smash stuff. However, I saw one person say it's not worth it.

I'm still looking into it
