Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

That slows down matches even more. Now every time I play I have to go through another menu just to start a round?

No, how it is now is the best.

Notice how there's a "customisations" toggle that would remove this step.

What if I play a game with some friends but then want to change one move? Now I have to go back a step or two, go into the custom menu and then probably a custom move menu and then a character and then change a move?

It's fucking stupid and has just removed the most unique, game changing aspect of sm4sh from tournament play.

Going back to the subject of Brawl's soundtrack...despite me defending it to death, to this day I remain utterly baffled as to why they had Hajime Wakai arrange this fucking amazing rendition of the Area 6 theme from Star Fox 64...only to have him do another version that is by far and away the worst song in the entire game. In fact, it may just very well be the worst song ever put into a Nintendo game, even worse than the likes of The Yoshi Clan and the Lanaryu Mining Facility!

I mean, seriously, over the past six years I've learned that people will complain about everything about that game and not once have I seen that abomination cited as an example. Step up your game, you anti-Brawl people!

This is the 3DS version. Everyone has their own screen and system. If you're playing a 3DS tournament, your customizations are already saved to your system. We don't know what the Wii U version looks like for customizing characters, so I would save the complaints until then.

I am starting to think this. It is interesting they decided to make Wario and Metaknight unlockables in this game. Either way, 1 more month until we know the full roster.

Yep! I had a feeling Sakurai was gonna make Meta Knight unlockable this time around the time Dedede was revealed. I still think Sakurai is saving Wario for the Chorus Kids trailer because Intelligent Systems.

We probably don't have that many newcomers left. Sakurai did say he was nearing the end of his smash videos. Plus this is just a dumb sinking feeling and I know "but Sponge, Gematsu was proven fake!" but considering Sal's source didn't know Greninja's name and was so sure Shulk was coming, what he just didn't know who the hell Robin was and thought that was Shulk? Not trying to be some sort of Sal apologist, but it wouldn't surprise me :/

EDIT- Then again, he also said Chrom was coming. Ignore me guys, I just worry about things way too much.

No, how it is now is the best.

So what if you want to change moves between games? Or if multiple players want to change their moves? With how it looks right now, each player will have to change their moves one at a time instead of all at one like in JoeInky's mockup.

They put so much work into the Mii outfits, it's weird you can't use them with randoms. Just make it so you have to use a stock mii face if they are afraid of the penis and hitler miis.

Just searched corocoro on twitter. It's amazing how many people are expecting the full roster revealed today. It's not like corocoro deconfirmed that weeks ago or anything. Ahh the spread of misinformation, never fail me.

CoroCoro Day - It is just past midnight in Japan now. We are still waiting on official confirmations on...[website removed]
I believe Nintendo is being super secretive about Smash and all but shouldn't the SSB Corocoro have leaked by this point
C'mon CoroCoro. Leak that Smash info faster.
totally unrelated but didnt this corocoro also promise the full smash roster

As a Waluigi fan I can attest to his appeal--he's so stupid that he wraps around the spectrum to being completely awesome.
I agree; he's got this weird thing where everything he does is completely stupid and insane. Wario is cunning, Waluigi is just a weird dumbass who acts like a dick and it's hilarious.

But again, Waluigi hasn't done anything outside of sports and kart and party spinoffs. Until he gets to be in more main role, I feel like his inclusion is a silly idea.

And what if I want to play 20 matches with the same customizations, now I have to have an extra menu every time I want to have custom moves, but play quick games.

I forget where it says this GUI means the whole concept is done. It's over, gg, might as well not even exist.

That's ridiculous. Tournaments will adapt and there's probably ways to save movesets to names or WiiRemotes or Amiibos for easy use. Making the CSS move any slower from selection to playing would be terrible.

It should be different, because it's a massive fuck up on Sakurai's part if he goes about it the same way and my interest in playing Sm4sh competitively just went way down.

The fact that this image exists, coupled with what we've seen today, does not make me think that he's going to treat custom moves differently to equipment and put them in an quick to access location.

God damn it.

I'm not sure but I have a feeling that we are not done with starting roster reveals but I could be wrong tho.

I think a number of the characters so far revealed are will be unlockable (not just Luigi.) The Brawl starting roster was a little over half the size of the final roster. Now, with Smash 4, assuming the final roster is around 50 characters, more than 3/4 the final roster has been revealed already. The number of characters we have now seems way too big for a starting roster.

If both players have the moves they want, they can just tap start the second they get to that menu. It isn't going to slow things down anywhere near as much as having the customization options in a separate menu will.

Equipment is no different than a simplified sticker system, only this time you can actually choose to fight w/ equipment in a normal smash, unlike brawl. I'll mainly be using it to help cheese my way through tough single player content.

That is nowhere near the worst song in a Nintendo game, though the second half is pretty dire.

The worst I've heard so far is the Yoshi Clan theme, but the Other M Space Pirate theme is also hilariously bad.

Then it saves the previously used customisations like it does with characters and character colours and you just press start a whole 1 extra time?

And being able to save movesets on your wii remote means fuck all, because the whole interesting aspect of custom moves is the way that they affect character matchups, having a mario moveset saved for dealing with heavy characters isn't going to work if your opponent picks a light character and you'd have to go back into menus to change it.

Custom moves being on a separate menu slows things down much more than on the CSS because you'll want to change what moves you're using depending on the other players character and possibly even the stage in some cases.

Hasn't it been confirmed-though I could be wrong-that 3DSes or Amiibos (can't remember which) can be used to transfer movesets to the Wii U version quickly? If so, I would almost bet that tournaments would usually have you using those to quickly change your movesets. Regardless, I would wait to see how they go about doing this. It's a big new feature and we don't know enough about how it'll work to complain yet.

There's no reason to assume that. Wario definitely isn't going to be hidden.

And Toon Link definitely isn't going to be a starter. Neither is Luigi, Lucario and probably Lucina.

The only character I see being bumped to starter is Marth, based on him being on the box and the first wave of Amiibos.

The second half? I don't know if I've ever made it that far...the opening alone makes me want to hurt things.

By itself...yeah it's fucking awful but I can't even remember any of the songs from Other M. Yet another factor into making me feel absolutely nothing about that game.

I don't think equipment is worth changing out from battle to battle, but custom moves definitely could be. I like what you set up. Just one extra screen that pops up before stage select, if you have customizations on. That said, I don't think it'll be that easy, but we can hope.

A6v2 is bad, and The Yoshi Clan is just atrocious, but I kind of like the Mining Facility. It reminds me of the Spirit Temple's music in OoT. It's appropriate for the area.

That Other M Pirate theme, on the other hand, is all kinds of awful. It's like the Resident Evil Mansion Basement masterpiece.

Nightmare not using his own theme from Fusion and using some generic nothing music was a tragedy :(

His fusion music is so creepy.
Here, this will make you feel better.
The second half? I don't know if I've ever made it that far...the opening alone makes me want to hurt things.
Oh boy, you have no idea. The second half after the main melody ends is really discordant and has no direction, with some random pauses and shifts and no central tune.

The "DONKADONKADONKADONKADONKADONKA" thing throughout just kinda pisses me off.

well I guess it's time to sit through

I'm pretty sure Sakurai (and frankly probably most of the competitive community) views customizations similar to items as too random for tournament play. That's why the customization toggle has easy access.
Turning on customizations again hopefully restores what last customizations you prior. I also hope the customized movesets can be tied to names (like controls in Brawl). That's the closest we can get to the problem you're posing as doing it from the character selection screen would be almost just as time wasting

So the book has nothing new (outside of some new images) from what's been scanned so far. Can't say I'm very surprised.

I think Corocoro clarified their statement and said it would just be a recap of what has been revealed on the website, similar to what they did for Brawl, which is about what we got.

I want an actual, hard-copy translation of CoroCoro, just because it's so stylish and colorful. They don't print magazines like that in the U.S.

Yeah they do, ever seen those Teen Beat and such magazines? I see them come through at work all the time and they're basically like CoroCoro.

But I thought " Melee "pros" " Didn't know how to play with items

Defined custom moves being as random as items? An option on the CSS where 2 people can set it up at the same time rather than having to go into the custom menu twice being more or just as time consuming?

The fuck are you saying?

And, no, that's not the general consensus of the competitive community. It was before we knew the extent of custom moves, now it's 50/50 with most of the people against it erring on the side of skepticism rather than outright hating the idea.
