Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

NeoGaf in a nutshell:

PS4 exclusive: "Great move Sony, good on you guys *hugs ps4*

Xbox One exclusive: "Fuck M$$$$$$$, using shitloads of cash again to actually compete in a business world, I'm not buying it! (I own a Xbox One, or at least I'm saying that to seem less biased)."

Have Sony ever money-hatted an IP that was previously multi platform like this?

When has Sony bought an exclusive 3rd party game lately? Let alone a sequel that was on EVERYTHING?

instead of denying gamers solid 3rd party multiplats to make up for your own lack of talents, how about invenst those money into your own 1st party studios MS?

I'm so pissed.

Why do Microsoft never just get their act together and make exclusives, instead of having to buy popular franchises? The Tomb Raider fanbase is now split massively. Well done Square-Enix.

I was going to get a Xbone because I wanted to play Sunset Overdrive and maybe some of the launch titles I missed, but this makes me want skip the entire system. Destructive tactics by MS. I don't want to support this. Fund development, don't spend to lock things away.

Oh fdamn.. Wanted to play the next one fully next gen Tombraider on my PS4...
Hopefully timed exclusive for me. But smart for MS and nice for Xbone owners.
Tomtaider DE was pretty good imo.

This is crap...

I have both systems, just so I can play exclusives, but there is no way I am buying this.

You have exclusives that are made in house.

You have exclusives, like the recent Sunset Overdrive, where the developer gets to keep control of their product, so staying on one system makes sense.

You have exclusives, like Bayonetta 2, where one of the big companies helps fund the game which would have never been made otherwise.

With all of these I have no problem buying the game and is the reason I own all the major systems.

Then you have crap like this where one company pays to keep the game off other systems. This is complete anti-consumer shit. This is not helping the gamer. This is not creating exciting content for your fans. This is not making me want to support your company by hiring the most talented artist in the industry and giving them a chance to wow me. This is 100% complete mafia bullshit of taking out all competition and leaving me one single choice.

fuck you I am not supporting this...

Well this post has it all. It should be put in the OP because the thread is becoming a console wars / trolling mess.

Wait, holiday?

Yeah who knows at this point.

Uncharted will be around anyway. We shall see

S-E still thought that wasn't satisfactory. So why not look for outside funding?
A sequel doesn't cost as much to make. A lot of assets can be used again or reworked for less than completely doing new ones. Also it would make more sense to control that budget anyway. If the game sold 5 million copies and barely made even, either the budget was just ridiculously bloated or they made it far too big a game compared to what it'd sell.
They now might get outside funding, but they lose millions of sales (especially as the game sold less on Xbox).

edit:
Though yeah, there is a slight possibility that the game would've got canned otherwise, but it's very unlikely I'd say. If we get to know that is the case anyway, then I'll happily eat some crow.

Really wanna know what's going on on the CD forum right now. Must be imploding. Unfortunately can't access from work.

I just checked and there's a thread with three pages of posts on it. Would read through but I forgot how awful it is reading message boards with signatures. Generally people are pretty bummed out.

To me this just screams that the 2013 MS mentality that pushed DRM is still alive, just biding it's time.

Guess I can play it on 360 though ... lol.

While I don't own either a PS4 or a Xbox One it's the exclusives that I look at when I'm about to make a purchase. Tomb Raider on it's own isn't going to get me but it adds to the whole package. If I were a fan of Tomb Raider without an Xbone though I would get pretty upset as well.

I already don't like third party exclusives

For all we know, they ARE funding development.

This will further delay my Xbone purchase. I don't want my money to go towards money-hatting multi-plats to become exclusives instead of using it to create exclusive content.
