Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

I was going to get a Xbone because I wanted to play Sunset Overdrive and maybe some of the launch titles I missed, but this makes me want skip the entire system. Destructive tactics by MS. I don't want to support this. Fund development, don't spend to lock things away.

Yeah, looking at sales of TR on 360 and considering X1's install base, I think you're right. UC may even double it.

ND's brand has gotten bigger after TLOu too, and UC games sokd pretty great 5-6 million+ on one console. It's not going to be remotely close in numbers or quality.

By the time UC4 comes out the PS should be close to 20 million sold.

What was the last major multiplatform series that Sony paid to not release on other consoles?

I would also like him to name the last time a game was announced for other platforms then was bought by Sony and those other releases did not happen.

People crying about PS bias are being ridiculous; this game was announced for other platforms including PC and that is now (apparently?) not happening. Accusing people of being bitter Sony fans because a game they had announced for their system and were taking pre-orders for being cancelled because of blatant moneyhats is completely absurd in this situation.

I will probably be buying Uncharted 4 when this comes out anyway, so it's no big loss for me. This is pretty surprising though, I wonder if the money from Microsoft is more than they would have made from PS4/PS3 sales...I can't imagine it is.

Now I'll not buying definitive edition (no big lose for them I know, but I'm not only one). I want to jump in TR universe, but this is really repels me.

Haha, very interesting indeed. Sucks for fanboys, but so does Bloodborne being only on PS4. Will be interesting to see if its timed or not.

Bloodborne is co-developed with Sony and this is new IP.

Moves like this only serve to garner ill will toward your studio, publisher, and IP.

Enjoy not getting my money, even when you release the vastly superior PC port in 6-12 months after the Xbox release.

I'm normally pretty neutral to these things if there is at least a slight chance that it's actual funding that made the project possible to begin with (I would even put Titanfall into this category) but if the moneyhatting is so obvious like in this case all parties involved lose lots of points in my book. There are no winners, even Xbone owners lose here because this money should have gone into projects that actually need funding.

Whereas I'm disappointed TR is going to be an Xbox One exclusive (PS4 owner here), I'm still failing to see why this decision was made? TR won't necessarily push or sell consoles.

I don't see how this is going to move consoles, or convert PlayStation gamers. If you gave a PS4 gamer the choice between UC4 and RotTR, they'd pick UC4 every time.

SE, after selling 7 million copies of Tomb Raider, decides to slash their sequel sales in half for an exclusivity deal. It just baffles me.

Exclusives are anti-consumer now? Lmao. Nonsense like this is why I stopped paying attention to this section. You don't see this stuff in Sony threads.

Show me a case where Sony money hatted a game that was in series that has been multi platform for a solid decade and had sold more on a competitor's console.

It only confuses me because Square was complaining about the sales of the last game, not to mention it sold the least copies on Xbox One. That rambling statement didnt really explain anything either.

Is it so different from what is going on with bloodborne?

Yes, Bllodbourne is a new IP created for Sony on behalf of a third party studio (Sony owns the IP).

This is a third party IP that has been on other consoles and PC in the past, MS and Square have seen fit to restrict the IP to a single platform.

I'm glad I have an xbox one

the exclusivity was one thing that I didn't expect lol along with that Cod and White SP xboxes

Would be nice if we got a definitive answer on details of the exclusivity. Whether its timed, console only and not PC etc.

This just completely ruined my day. I have been a fan and supporter of Crystal Dynamics since the first Soul Reaver, and they just slapped me in the face with a steel rod.

This was my most anticipated game for 2015, and now even if I get an XB1 and play the game there will always be the feeling that the game I am getting is a lesser version of what I could have had on the PS4 or PC. I am truly stunned and incredibly unhappy about this.

Why must this turn into some console war bullshit? Do you have an example of a previously multi-plat game that Sony managed to snag as a PS4 exclusive and a thread that shows GAF cheering on that practice?

Heck even the announcement that 'Everybody's Gone to the Rapture' was a PS4 exclusive (a game that was eventually made with the help of Sony's studios if I'm not mistaken) was met with initial heated derision here.

Apparently part of their business plan was to deliver this to as few fans as possible. Seems wise.

For me personally this is certainly not a system seller but I am sure it is for quite a few peeps.

Now that Quantum Break! *drooooooools*

I think people were thinking of first party exciting new IPs when they said that, not moneyhats to prevent games that were designed as multiplatform games from start from being released on other platforms.

Big difference.

No real difference to me. Exclusive is an exclusive. Doesn't matter how it happens in my eyes. A company is footing the bill to put it on their system. I look back at the Rise of the Tomb Raider trailer and I see no systems announced.

All this and I don't even have an Xbox One.

I own and Xbox One and still think the move is kinda shitty. I have to say though if a game was supposed to make me buy an Xbox One, Tomb Raider wouldn't be one of them so if that's what they are hoping for, I don't think it will do much.
