Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

Congratulations MS your conference was largely uninteresting but now instead of everyone shrugging it off you get spite from announcing a money hat. Ugh never change.

I'm gonna need some confirmation straight from the horses mouth in this case. So many conflicting reports. Even the CD blog thing doesn't outright state exclusivity forever.

There wasn't a lick of actual Tomb Raider in TR2013 and they lost me as a fan with that mess of a game so this news doesn't affect me one iota.

Tomb Raider now resides with the "Lara Croft" series and Temple of Osiris is looking to be amazing.

If they take those money hats to fun fund another sleeping dogs it is all good. I don't see the big deal about a timed exclusive especially in a packed 2015. Getting this winter 2016 sounds good to me.

This is a sad Day for Gaming.
An industry with so few female lead roles, and now one of the few big ones will not be available for a large amount of people.

So much salt...
Got a xbone because I knew MS deep pockets mean good exclusives, said it before say it again: Its about the games not the -P- counting.

What a stupid post. You would still get Tomb Raider without Microsoft buying exclusiveness. There is a difference between funding the development of a new game that otherwise wouldn't have existed and just buying exclusiveness of an existing game. The first thing is acceptable, the latter is just anti-consumer bullshit.

Damn that's good.

What about No Mans Sky?

From what I understand, Sony is assisting with development so the developer can get the game made with less risk involved. They do this with a lot of small indie devs - they basically give them an advance on sales in order to get the game made and while they don't require them to launch them as PS-exclusives, that's typically how it works with smaller developers that can't produce games for multiple platforms at the same time. No Man's Sky is being prioritized for PS4 and it will be developed for PC as well, and there is nothing preventing it from coming to Wii U and Xbox One, other than manpower.

I could be wrong about No Man's Sky, but when Sony does that (and I'm pretty sure Nintendo and Microsoft have done the same thing), it's different from paying a developer to hold off on other versions of the game which were already in development, so they can get an exclusive launch window.

Are you surprised? If Tomb Raider had a community, it was on PC and PlayStation. That is where it started, especially the PC.

Going full exclusive was pretty expensive for Microsoft I assume.

Maybe Microsoft thought they somehow had the support of the majority of the fanbase because they did the E3 stage demo...

Yeah it might be different, what do we know. But the point is anyways that Sony funds it (or co-funds it or whatever) and thus it stays an exclusive, which is basically what MS does with this game as well. For me as a consumer, its the same deal. I will have to get a PS4 if I want to play Bloodborne (which I want), and I have to get a Bone if I want to play this (which I probably wont for a while).

FROM is a developer
SE is a publisher
You think SE don't have enough money or resource to make TR?

I have a question, Darrell Gallagher. It's all well and good that you're trying to assuage PC and PlayStation fans here in light of this move, but what about the Wii U?! You couldn't even be bothered to consider Nintendo at all in your message about supporting other platforms!

They working on Tomb Raider: Definitely Cranky Edition as we speak...they rather not spoil the surprise megaton in a PR statement, ya know?

MGS4 was a big money sink for Konami at the time. I am sure that the only reason they didn't port it was because it would have cost them too much.

Which is why MGS5 is now a multiplatform game from day one. The best solution for everyone.

Exactly why I'm asking him for a source since he claims Sony paid for it.

This actually sets a dangerous precedent for MS now. TR is a fairly sizable franchise, one that I thought would be too big to moneyhat. What's to stop MS from shelling out for bigger franchises like Fallout, Final Fantasy, etc? Only franchises that seem safe for now are mega blockbusters like Call of Duty and GTA.
I don't think other publishers would do that unless they are in trouble. It could kill a franchise to not get a game of this size into peoples hands.

Well this is a bit better or worse than a few extra levels in Destiny. This shit's only going to get worse or better.

Begun the system wars have.

Sony is helping with funding and development and No Man's Sky is still coming to PC and XBone.

If they are funding and developing it, there's no way they are letting it go to the XBone. That makes no business sense. I think they just paid to have it as a PS4 console debut.

MS are obviously trying to counter the Uncharted series. If you can't make your own, buy someone elses.

Good god the PS bias on this forum is sickening. Constant jibes about 900p 30fps, shot themselves in the foot etc... etc...

Is there anywhere on GAF where adults share their opinion rather than angsty teenagers with a severe brand loyalty delusion?

well in the other thread you seemed pretty quick to jump on people's 'biases' too, so maybe you should be looking in a mirror?

If this was a new game, the first in a new franchise, it would still be anti-consumer, but you'd have less pissed off people. There are millions of people that have played TR on PC, PS3 and PS4 and enjoyed it. Now they are being denied the ability to play the sequel unless they own an Xbox as well. And as not that many people are dual console owners (GAF probably an exception) that basically means they feel like Square are telling them to fuck off and they don't want their money.

MGS4 was paid for? You're going to have to provide a source there buddy because I'm pretty sure it stayed off the X360 due to technical reasons and Kojima's own bias for PS. Besides every MGS was exclusive to PS at one point. Last I checked, TR wasn't.

I'll provide a source for my MGS4 claim when you can provide a source for the fact that Microsoft paid to make Tomb Raider exclusive to the Xbox. You know these exclusivity deals are almost never publicly acknowledged, but no, I don't buy Kojima being a PS fanboy as the reason they put a massive project on the PS3 only.

This is scummy, no matter what way you try framing it. It's everything wrong with MS and it seems they've now long overstayed their welcome.
How scummy is Sony for making No Man's Sky exclusive to the PS4? Is that a sign of everything that is wrong with Sony?

If they're not going to put in the effort, I'm not going to be supporting them anytime soon

You've been a really big supporter of Microsoft for a while now. This is certainly a change for you. /s

The Holiday 2015 battle between Uncharted 4 and this is going to be very interesting. I hope they release on the same day for ease of comparison.

There will not be a contest. Uncharted sold as much as the Tomb Raider reboot while still being exclusive to PlayStation. It is an interesting move since the Tomb Raider reboot sold the most on PC and PS4.

Yes...and the "buying" happened after MS stepped in to foot the bill because Respawn/EA somehow couldn't. Of course they'll want it as an exclusive.

Why do peole continue to spread this false narrarive?

Ms "stepped in" and helped and got a year timed, we knew this for a while.

They then went around Respawn's back and full out paid to keep it off PS. That's the moneyhat

It's pretty funny to me that they made such a big deal over sales numbers for Tomb Raider. Even if every single xbox one in the wild buys this game it will sell worse.

Must of been a hefty check.

Seems counterproductive. TR may not have met expectations for SE, but seemed to be enjoying a second wind as of late with Definitive Edition and GwG/Plus versions. Lot of players just getting into it now, and going exclusive kills that momentum. Not sure why SE would go this route at this point in time.

Tomb Raider exclusive to the xbox?

What kind of crazy world are we living in? This is worse than when oddworld got moneyhatted.

Is this timed exclusive?

Going to be interesting to see if Sony uses the same tactics later today and seeing the reactions then.

There's absolutely nothing wrong in being disappointed if you don't own an Xbone. You wanted to play, you can't, that sucks. It's the hyperbole that is ridiculous.
